I got 12000+ caches (including all Child waypoints and Hints) loaded on my Garmin GPS60CSx using GSAK and POI Loader. No problem for me. I use the option to load up to 1000 WP's onto the GPS when I go to visit a single destination.

I used a PDA for a short period, but due to the listed con's and due to the bad choice of PDA I don't use it any more. The main reson for me to start with a PDA with build in GPS was the use of other applications outsite geocaching. The advantage is you can do a lot more with it, like use it as a navigation system (in those days an handheld GPS was not a good navigation system). A handheld GPS is made for geocaching and has a lot of advantages. I use an old PDA to take along for tools and listings, which provides for me a perfect combination.

I also have never had the problem that the FTF field was overwritten. Basically I don't think it can happen since this information is not in the GPX file you receive from GC.com so not updated during the load. You might have checked the option "clear database before loading" when you load the GPX file. Also in the same window you have the option "Lock Fields" to avoid them from being changed. I use it to prevent loosing data of counties and states since in Europe these are not always available in the listing, so you have to enter this information manually. Reloading a GPX file removes this data again. The "Lock Fields option works fine for me.

Voor functies die niet standaard op de GPS zitten zijn tooltjes beschikbaar. Ikzelf gebruik GCT op de PC en PGCT onderweg op de Pocket PC. Deze programmaatjes zijn te vinden op http://www.pgct.nl/index.html Verder maak ik gebruik van geotools4.xls, een Excel sheetje waarmee allerhande berekeningen gemaakt kunnen worden. Dit is eigenlijk de voorloper van PGCT. Het sheetje heeft wel het voordeel dat je eenvoudig zelf aanpassingen kunt maken.
