  1. Één jaar na dato toch nog duidelijkheid. Bedankt!
  2. Any news when the RSS feed list will be updated?
  3. Would I not get a notification that the note was deleted? And if not, why not? That's the way the system is set up. You will only receive a notification per mail when a new log is posted, not when it is changed or deleted.
  4. I used to get updates on the "Groundspeak's Geocaching for Android App" Forum when topics were added, using an RSS feed. Since November 8th the RSS feed does not work any more. I tried to find find the RSS feed of this forum by selecting the RSS button in the general forum main page. This lists a lot of forums, but not the "Groundspeak's Geocaching for Android App" forum. Can someone help by pointing me to the correct page or by posting the RSS feed location? Thanks! Moose61
  5. I am planning to attend the "11.11.11 1:11 1. 1/1 ..°11.111 ...°11.111" event... (GC35RTK) Regards, Moose61
  6. There is a series of bird house caches in Bocholtz, The Netherlands. You can check out the pictures posted with the caches. See THIS LIST. The owner made all bird houses himself. You can contact him if you're interrested. Regards, Moose61
  7. I did the same upgrade when my Merri Gold fell off of my kayak and now resides on the bottom of the Tualatin River. The 60csx is infinitely better except for one thing. On the Merri Gold if you wanted more waypoint storage you just got a bigger flash card. The 60csx has a limit to the number of caches/waypoints. The 60CSX has a limit of 1000 Waypoints/caches. However, if you use GSAK to convert the caches to Point Of Interest files you only have the limitation of the SD card. This way I have loaded 20,000 caches on my 60CSX, including all child waypoints and hints. A very good workaround. I have my 60CSX now for several years and it is really good. I do not even consider at this moment trading it for an other unit.
  8. I booked a trip this summer from Europe to Seattle to find an APE cache. Unfortunately I did get ill and the trip needed to be cancelled. The worst thing is the APE cache is now archived and I need to go to Brasil to find one...
  9. Be aware there are different kind of film containers. Some have ventalation holes under the cap (e.g. black container with grey cap), others don't and are water tight (e.g. transparent type).
  10. You also can attend an event in your area, so you get to know some people. Regards, Moose61
  11. You also should have received MapSource with the device. With this software you can load the WP's to the GPS and also maps, tracks and routes. Also you can use MapSource to transfer data from the GPS to the PC, e.g. the tracks. Be aware you can only load up to 1000 WP's in the device. When you need more to load, drop me a message. There is a workaround. Regards, Moose61
  12. I also use GSAK, but use a macro to generate POI files. It has some advantages: - You can load way more than 1000 points - You can also load Child Waypoints - You also add some basic cache information like D/T and Last Found date - You can also load the hint information Of course the name is the smart name GSAK generates. Just drop me a message if you want more information on this option.
  13. A hat does help. I wear one. Also I wear (if possible) long pants and a shirt with long sleaves, but still had four ticks last Tuesday and one last Thursday (Thursday it was rainy weather, so less problems with ticks). During sunny weather I also use a spray (DEET). After caching a good shower and a good body check.
  14. Since you don't have to do any preparations prior to starting to find the cache at the end it is a multi. Arround here all night caches of the type you describe are listed as a multi cache. I don't see any reason why it should be listed as a mystery (although it always may be listed as a mystery)...
  15. Attached is a public bookmark list of the first 100 caches. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=3351d8d0-f698-47d3-907a-8601f5677b57 Regards, Henk
  18. If you want to have it very cheap you might explore the use of a Bluetooth GPS unit and hook it up to your smartphone...
  19. My suggestions: - First get some experience with finding caches, so you also get an idea how a high quality cache looks like and what you should not do. - Attend a geocaching event and talk with some experienced cachers. They can help and advice. - The knowledge books of geocaching.com contain all information you need. If language is a problem try the french geocaching websites (http://www.geocaching-france.com/) Good luck, Moose61
  20. There is an other way to find the caches. In your case you can also use existing bookmark lists. Check out THIS ONE and THIS ONE
  21. Hello Chosen son, I can tell you what I have done. I had already a Garmin GPS60CSx and will continue to use it since it is much better to use in the field. I added a smartphone to my gear to be able to look to the latest cache listings and offline log caches when I am in the field. I picked an Android phone based upon the recommandation of some fellow cachers. My personal feeling is that both Android and iPhone are good choises at this moment, but I feel Android has more advantages looking to the future since it is a free, open environment for issuing applications. The choice of geocaching applications and geocaching supporting applications I feel is better. I never pick the latest model of phone. It makes no sence since the latest model you buy today is an "old" model tomorrow. When you pick a model which is on the market one year it is still an pretty new model but the price is much cheaper. Most likely it will be cheaper for you to take a one year old model with cheaper one year subscription. I picked a Samsung Galaxy i5800, which is a bit smaller, but has 3G, WLAN, GPS, and many more. I rather had a larger newer device, but this immediately doubled the price. I will buy it in two years time. I must admit, there is one difference between my situation and yours. I bought a simmlock free device without a subscription. Since I live on the bourder of The Netherland, Gemany and Belgium I cache a lot outside my home country mobile data costs is killing (4-20 Euro per MB, additional to subscription costs). Therefore I bought the device without subscription and took a special, low cost, international data subscription, no voice. I am now paying only 59 Eurocents per MB in many countries. When you do a lot of roaming this is a better approach.
  22. A geocache should give you more than a location where you can find a McDonalds. I've seen many caches at McDonalds, but the interesting caches I visited at McDonalds you can count on one finger. For me, this is definetly a NO. Try to find interesting locations. This is not based upon the hame of a fastfood restaurant..
  23. Reading the header, my initial thought was NO. After reading the whole proposal my thought was NO, NO, NO!!!...
  24. I have a GPS60CSx and use GSAK and a POI macro to get the WP's of 17k caches on the GPS (including hints, child WP's and some general information). Works great for most traditionals. Recently bought a Android phone with GC apps to get full cache listings and be able to log remotely.
  25. I use DEET, long pants (also in the summer) and check frequently when hinking in the woods and tall grass. I also take a shower when I am back home. If the tick did not bite yet, it will be washed away. Still at least ones a year one of them eats me. Then remove it as quickly as possible. Use good tick removing equipment, not the tongs used to remove ticks from animals. When removed check for the next weeks there is no infection. If you don't think it is OK, consult a doctor. Information how to remove a tick and how to check for an infection can be found on the Internet.
