  1. Have just received another anonymous package of TBs from the Kent area. I will get them out into circulation ASAP
  2. To date, I've had around 25 to 30 coins and TBs arrive via post.
  3. Try this one ....... http://project-gc.com/Home/Dashboard
  4. Just a quick note to confirm that the service is still being used; 3 items having been received in the last month.
  5. Took part in the first one and found it to be a harmless bit of fun. Please count me in Mandy.
  6. But they do sound like my kind of people!
  7. To date, I have received 4 TBs and 4 Geocoins from various anonymous senders. This would seem to demonstrate that the service is needed, and works well. I'm still happy to receive Trackables from any source, and I undertake to place them in a UK cache without delay. Rod
  8. Hi to both of the "loyal and faithful servants of yore" Nostalgia is a wonderful thing, but it's not what it used to be..... Just don't get me started on the pathetically low standards of some current cachers and their hides
  9. Has anybody else got "hands-on" experience of this unit? Having just purchased a Renault car, complete with this built-in GPS unit, I'm curious as to what the unit is capable of beside the normal car SatNav functions. For example, has anyone tried converting GPX files to OV2 (the TT format), and then somehow adding them to the installed map folder? This would show caches as POI points on the normal road navigation screen when travelling. I've got a feeling that this procedure on the Carminat may not be the same as for a "stand-alone" TT unit, since both the application and the map(s) seem to be loaded onto the removable SD card supplied with the unit. Can anybody advise me, please? I have also posted this message on the GPS Technology part of the GC forum, but I'm not expecting much help from there since it is so heavily biased towards the USA.

  11. Now look here, I've gone to all the trouble of creating the Amersham Frog challenge, and I've got Silly Walk and Cuckoo in the pipeline. OK, admittedly the system seems to confuse East and West, but I'm sure Groundspeak will soon sort out that little problem and we'll be all set. I'm very sorry, but I will have to disagree with you on several of your points. Your challenge has not been particularly well thought out. Until you can get the Amersham Cuckoo to do the Silly Walk while whistling "Yankee Doodle", I rather doubt that serious cachers will look favourably on your challenge. Indeed, they might even go so far as to give it a "thumbs down" As to the East/West debacle, I think that you are missing the point. All that you have to do is turn your GPS upside down. North then becomes South, and East becomes West - Simples. As for certain parties being willing to extinguish any criticism which may be aimed at them; will you remind them of the First Amendment to the US Constitution, or shall I? (Edited to correct my "late at night" speeeeling)
  12. I prefer "Campaign Of Challenge Kancellation - UK Platform"
  13. Going back to the OP......... It seems that one of the cachers carrying out the bogus logging could have had a change of heart. This may, or may not, have something to do with the fact that he has been rumbled! He has now deleted his Found logs from quite a few caches which he had previously claimed in support of a Challenge Cache. He also withdrew his original registration for that cache. Whilst continuing to deny that he ever committed any bogus logging, he has now re-registered a fresh start date for that same Challenge Cache. Interestingly, he is now asking for help from COs to solve quite a few puzzle caches. The sting is that these were the very same puzzle caches that he had previously logged as "Found"
  14. Thank you MeerRescue. I was going to add this point to my original post, but decided to wait for a while to see whether anybody else had read the Guidelines
  15. I deliberately didn't name either the cachers or any of the caches involved. Perhaps some of my caches are on the list of those which have been falsely claimed? I repeat, can anybody offer any practical or constructive advice?
  16. There are currently 2 cachers in the South of England who are posting bogus "find" logs. Numerous examples have been documented where they claim a find on the cache page, but no record or sign of their visit appears in the cache log book. They cannot use the excuse that they "forgot a pen", because the examples are too widespread and persistent. In addition, they have the irritating habit of deliberately logging some of the caches that they have genuinely found, on false dates. For example, they may find a ring of a dozen caches on one day, as evidenced by the same date appearing on each paper log for each cache. However, when it comes to logging the find on the cache page, they will use a wide variety of dates, (usually in order to help them qualify for some sort of Challenge Cache). The only apparent solution to curb this behaviour, seems to be to notify the affected COs, and ask them to investigate and/or delete logs. While I appreciate that we all play this game by different rules, the activities of these 2 individuals are intensely irritating and frustrating to many local cachers. Can anybody offer any practical or constructive advice?
  17. Having just purchased a Renault with the built-in TomTom Carminat Live system, I would be interested to hear how others have fared. Has anybody else tried to convert multiple GPX files to OV2, and then actually install them onto the Carminat SD card? I'm wary of corrupting the map already installed on the card.
  18. To get back to one of the original questions posed by the OP. I have used various Magellan units (100 & 500 models) over the last 6 years without any problems in location accuracy. As others will tell you, it's easy enough although it does take a little time. 1 Make sure that the screen indicates a GPS accuracy of 30', or better. 2 Take a reading at the cache site. 3 Walk 50 to 100' away then slowly walk back to the cache, wait 30 secs for the GPS to settle, then note the reading 4 Repeat step 3 at least another 10 times, but walking in from a different direction/angle each time. 5 You should now have 10 to 12 readings which very closely agree (if they don't then go home because you are obviously having one of "those" days!) 6 Average out the readings, and there is your cache location. It's basically common sense and needs no electronic gimmicks. And, of course, it works for any make or model of GPS!
  19. Thanks for all of the kind offers to move these coins along. They have been dispersed as follows......... 5 to London via Amberel 6 to Cornwall via Dr Dick&Vick 6 to West Hampshire via Mario McTavish 5 to East Hampshire via myself Let's hope that, following their recent trauma, these coins have a safe journey.
  20. The cache was visited at 9 am this morning to check things out. I'm pleased to report that all of the 22 Trackables that were listed as being in the cache, were in fact present and correct. I have brought them all home with me, and will place them around other local caches during the next few days. The Pirates of Penzance had made no entry in the cache log book, which is rather strange. This reinforces my view that POP is a sock puppet account for a previous finder of this puzzle cache.
