  1. UNLESS . . . you find an unactivated coin that I left in a cache. I always expect it to be taken by the next finder without trading evenly. My little gift to the world of treasure hunting. - Though I do like to know about it when find it.
  2. Awe come on. . . . . . It is well known that people hate presales. The reason is that there are delays and problems. But when a coin has already been produced, it would seem a fairly simple task to make more. 1. Figure out how many more are needed - a day or two. 2. Order tracking numbers - Up to a week. 3. Place order with factory - 1 day. 4. Get estimated date of delilvery from factory - 1-2 days after the order is placed. 5. Coins made and sent to USA - 3-4 weeks tops. Now it has been what 6-7 weeks and when people ask about the status of the coins they ordered and paid for they are treated badly. It does not seem right. I mean at the very least, the coin vendor has an estimated ship date, that could be shared here in the forums, which would go a long way toward people thinking that their loyalty to the event is valued. My Thoughts!
  3. There have been at least two made. I think for both there were only 100 silver coins made and while I think they did sell out, it was not an instant thing. I think that at even a more modest price you would have a difficult time selling that quantity of coins. And at $42 I probably would not buy one.
  4. Hogwild Stuff one will be up in the next week or so.
  5. might be that southbayday has an extra lime green gw5 t shirt coin he could trade
  6. The first place to start is to look at the pinned list / guide: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=116800 Second look at web sites. Third call or e mail some of the companies to get a feel for them. Hope that helps.
  7. Here are the problems: 1. Biggest: Coin overload, which consists of just plain to many coins available for purchase, plus much harder to come up with a truely unique design. Because people can't buy everything, they have mostly reduced their overall coin budget. 2. This coin is so personal, that unless people have a relationship with you, it is unlikely people will buy it, in part because of #1. 3. It is a a neat coin, but doesn't really jump out at you so no real strong motivation for people to purchase, and I am guessing it is being looked at as not having a lot of resale value on ebay. I have a coin that I did for a new grand daughter. It is trackable with a unique icon, that is quite unique, that will go up for sale in a few weeks. I made 250 which is all that will be made. I will put up for sale 200 at a fairly low price, and do not really expect it to sell like gang busters. The bottom line is that market has changed. It used to be that you could sell 250 of almost anything. It is just not the case anymore. I suspect most people would be supprised at the number of individuals who have made coins and are having a hard time selling them. So please know that sell outs are the exception not the rule right now.
  8. I have made a few coins . . . so I will take a shot at your questions comments: Just wanted to drop a few observations from a new guys perspective about making/collecting geocoins. Welcome to Geocoins! Are there really that many shady coin makers/designers here that are actually ripping people off? While there have been a few instances of people being ripped off, I am not aware of any wholesale rip off's. The complaints really fall under two broad catagories: A. Business Practices B. Appropriate Subject Matters - This has been discussed many times, so I won't rehash it here. Under Business Practices there seem to be three main issues issues: A. Pricing B. When money is taken relative to when coins are delivered. C. Remaking of a given coin design. A. Pricing is really the most simple. The seller sets a price and people either purchase for that price or they don't. We have seen some coins not sell primarily because they are overpriced, and some coins that were deemed overpriced that sold just fine. This is really the sellers perogotive and risk. B. Most of of the major commercial coin sellers, do not sell coins unless they have them in hand or will have them in hand within a few days. Smaller coin makers have a bigger need to juggle cash flow and will presell, meaning that they take money more than a week or two before they have the coins to deliver. Rarely do people get upset if they have to wait 2-3 weeks to get a coin. However, if it takes 2-3 months people get a bit cranky, which is understandable. They also tend to get cranky when the sellers don't do such a good job letting people know the status of a project. Finally, they get cranky when they know a seller has had the coins in hand for some period of time and has not sent them to the buyers. They Wyoming 2006 coin being an extreme example of this. While there is little control over the manufacturing process, if you have art approved and samples made, the outside time to have a coin in hand should be 4 weeks. Very occassionally, there are problems with production that require coins to be remade. Mostly people understand that and the seller should always be willing to refund. C. The number of coins being made is a sensitive issue. Coin sellers / makers want to sell as many as they can. Buyers want a fairly restricted number of coins made (mostly). The big issue here is the seller needs to be clear about what they are doing and what their practice is. It is not really fair to the buyer of a Limited Edition coin to find out that a whole bunch more are being made, because of additional demand. I also know there are way more collectors, than people making /designing coins. Is the demand starting to outweigh the production? NOPE, right now if anything, production is outstripping demand. Which while painful in the short run for sellers, will be good for geocioin and coin collectors in the long run. I think most people will agree, making the coins is a big hassle. Designing, taking orders, money, shipping, tracking shipping, dealing with customers questions, etc. I am sure the people who make them do it because they really enjoy it, and none of the items I mentioned must not bother them. That is all true, which is why you should not feel sorry for us. Finally: You will be more successful as a coin seller if you have thick skin. You can pretty much count on some unhappy comments. That being said, sometimes those comments can be helpful. For instance. It is too expensive, or you might what do something different. But sometimes, it is just plain unpleasantness, and you have to treat it as part entertainement and be thankful that those people are bumping your thread back to the top.
  9. Don't you think it would be a lot more fun if the bidding were done here. Steve
  10. My opening bid $70.00 - - - I mean gotta start someplace!
  11. It is a printing process that allows the text to be put on top of the colors and to provide much crisper text. it is possible that text could be in a unique color.
  12. I don't see this answered anywhere yet. Very carefully and with much detail using coloring crayons!
  13. Been reading this and am honestly kind of amazed about how easily this has boiled so much blood. Pretty much because I am afraid of these kind of disputes I have never done an artist edition. I frequently do LE's where the artist will get a significant portion of those coins, but never all. However, right or wrong I suspect that the following is generally true in the geocoin world. 1. Artist Editions are special / different coins that are initially controlled exclusively by the artist. 2. They are usually (maybe always) given to the artist in payment for creating the art for a coin. 3. Artists like to get Artist Editions for at least 3 reasons 1. The artist likes the particular variant better than the other versions; 2. The coin has more perceived value for trade; 3. The coin has more perceived value for sale. 4. Artist Editions are not typically (or maybe ever) sold in the same fashion that the other editions are sold. 5. The Artist Edition is a type of limited run versions. 6. As a type of limited edition coin, there is an implied understanding that the number of coins made, relative to the total minting of a design is small. Regardless of the specifics the most important issue is full disclosure. If an artist or anyone for that matter puts up a coin for sale, auction site, forums or some other venue, there should be full disclosure. Meaning: A. There are no limited to the # of coins made; B. There are only X number made in this metal finish at that is all that will ever be made. C. So far there have been only X number made but we reserve the right to make more. Then when someone else obtains that coin, by whatever means, they know what they are getting into. My Thoughts

  15. Wow, lot's of assumptions being made here. Contrary to what a handful of people here believe, FSM has always and will continue to be neutral and impartial in respect to moderating duties. In that spirit, and being a member of the community these coins will be made available to everyone (quantities not withstanding). More to come soon. WOW THAT IS TOO COOL! I HAVE LOTS OF GREAT STUFF I COULD TRADE FOR THIS COIN! YOU ARE TRADING RIGHT . . . . . I HOPE
  16. I bet FSM won't let me have one, but it is a very cool design.
  17. This thread is the best place to start when looking for coins that are for sale: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=116800 You might also look at: http://cachebug.blogspot.com/ for the lastest coins coming out. To have a dozen or two of your own custom coins minted is fairly prohibitive. You will find in the forums a number of group options that will allow a fair amount of customization in smaller quantities, usually at least 50 though.
  18. Seemed best to start a new thread. If there is an interest, I will go to work on some artwork ideas I have. I would also be interested in other ideas, if this idea has merit. Thinking min order of 50 coins and cost of under $1.00 each. Send me an e-mail through my profile if you are interested.
  19. I am wondering if we ought to get a guys series going?
