Hi! Fortaleza is a well known tourist destination for Portuguese, among other communities. I'm pretty sure that if the TB would land in Portugal, in a matter of months it would reach Fortaleza. Good luck!

Are you considering setting an event? A get-together would be great! You're still in time for that. :-) A visit to Sintra is well worth it! Definitely a must if you're staying for that long. You can also visit Cascais, which is some what near. Both are easily accessible by train. There's plenty of caches on both.

Realmente, parece ser uma nova moda, por cá. Não posso dizer que não goste deles. Certo que, por vezes, as caches em série pouco ou nada trazem de novo. A lembrança das mesmas é mais efémera que uma multi daquelas mais exigentes, interessante. Por esta ordem de ideias, um powertrail banal traz o mesmo grau de satisfação que uma multi fraca, sem interesse. Nós acabamos por ir a todas... Ou melhor, tenta-se.

António, a situação que te aconteceu é triste... Por várias razões. Efectivamente, a barreira da língua num jogo que se pretende o mais global possível acaba por criar dificuldades aos geocachers. Sempre fui contra a mentalidade de "os outros que aprendam Português". Viajar e fazer geocaching fez-me defender a posição de tentar, no máximo das nossas capacidades, abrir o jogo/actividade/whatever ao maior número de geocachers. E esta é uma questão demasiado fácil de ser ultrapassada. Como referes, bastaria uma linha em inglês para te colocar no local certo. Não a colocar, ainda por cima nas circunstâncias que referes, parece-me um acto deliberado de provocação. Nesta última viagem tive uma agradável surpresa. Contava encontrar páginas de caches com texto com o alfabeto em grego. Pelo contrário, encontrei descrições, formas de chegar à cache e hints em inglês, em forma bilingue. Uma agradável surpresa. No entanto, noutras que fiz, encontrei a situação que falas... Sem a atitude inexplicável desse geocacher que referes. Não o conheço, não sei quem é. Sei que é uma situação triste. Tomar a atitude dele como padrão é, na minha opinião, precipitado. Felizmente que são excepções. Acho que não vale a pena generalizar e penalizar com isso muitos owners que tem o cuidado de abrir as suas caches a universo tão grande quanto possível.

unfortunately, I dont have a job ATM so I cant even use that... Maybe you picked the wrong way to start. You could have got a premium membership for 3mo/$10, instead of paying $10 for cachemate. You could easily find a freeware substitute for cachemate (with some differences). There's no workaround here. Good luck!

Let's skip that part of: - "Let them play the game as they want" - "It's not cheating, it's their way of geocaching" - "Go out geocaching" And all sorts of replies, like those above. I've been watching the phenomenon of Earthcaching growing up steadily, as it can be seen by the numbers and also by the quality of many. The movement is positive as it raises awareness to many things that we otherwise wouldn't pay attention. But now, from many examples out there, seems there's now a kind of established way of nailing another smiley in Earthcaches. How? Just know the answers. Even if you weren't there. You just need to manage some bibliography, browse some internet sites and get the answer. Is that really the intention? Shouldn't we pay a visit to the site, or at least be somewhat near of it? I know (read the 1st part of this post)... But, could this kind of (low) earthcache requirements be leading to a creation of new airmchair caches?

We have an oldie IPAQ 3850 with bluetooth. It has wm2003 installed. It's running Tomtom perfectly. For strictly geocaching, we have GPX Sonar and Beeline GPS. That along with GSAK on PC is a great combination.

Hi, We gone a bit extreme on profile editing. It took me sometime to crank it up, but I think the final result is kinda cool. :-) There are some resources to "pimp" your profile. Still, you'll be able to enjoy them fully if you become a premium member. Check this sites: www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com / www.mygeocachingprofile.com / http://www.logicweave.com/cachestats.html And you can use GSAK and the macro FindStatGen. Again, a premium membership at geocaching.com is highly recommended.

Mine took 3 hours to run. I prepared to run them in advance. I suggest you do the same. Plan ahead. You know, there's some thousand users asking the same things simultaneous. Still, I'm sure they're preparing a system just for you. :-)

É capaz de resultar. Ou não. Cada um terá que fazer aquilo que a sua consciência dita. Deixar ou não uma opinião/crítica construtiva num log é uma das hipóteses. É a minha opinião. A capacidade de encaixe dos owners é mínima. Raros são os casos (tendo em conta que há 4500 caches) em que a coisa realmente funciona da forma como dizes. Tipicamente, a coisa descamba com logs apagados e tal. Eu, honestamente, deixei-me disso. Pior que isso só mesmo criticar sem olhar para o seu umbigo.

We drove in the south of France, from Spain to Italy and we drove with an average speed above 130km/h. We were never stopped in tolls. And those POI became really handy.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Had no idea of that. In my opinion, it's still silly.

That seems silly. Portuguese Authorities said sometime ago that showing off speed cameras and radars on GPS clearly result a more careful driving. I never heard or read that POIs with that information was illegal, much of a contrary. I know that radar detectors are illegal, which is comprehensible.

Eu sou mais radical ainda, confesso. Para mim, o saco só atrapalha. Mas concordo em absoluto com o post do Gustavo. Não gosto dos sacos por várias razões: - Não protegem o container. Depois de dois ou três founds, o saco rasga-se, apesar dos três nós que lhe dão (só uma dica, a humidade/água já desistiu de entrar num saco com nós. Optam por entrar pelos 30 buracos que estão mais abaixo). - Se a melhor camuflagem que conseguem arranjar para a vossa cache é um saco plástico... Então é necessário fazer um trabalho de casa e melhorar o container, não? Dediquem-se mais um bocadinho. - Perder tempo a fazer cache notes para depois as colocar dentro de uma caixa, envolvida em dois ou três sacos, é um tiro no pé. - Se o muggler não arrisca a saber o que está dentro do saco, o pessoal que passa pelo espaço para tratá-lo também vai fazer o mesmo. Destino: lixo. - Se queremos ser ecológicos, esqueçam o saco. Vai-se rasgando todo, fragmentando-se pelo local da cache. Invistam algum dinheiro a mais na caixita. Podem arranjar uma "porreira" por €1, mas que na realidade não veda, não é hermética. O mais certo é lá irem ao local mais depressa do que pensaram para... colocar mais dois ou três sacos. Passado pouco tempo, voltam a lá ir. Se gastarem €3 ou €4 num, verão a diferença. Por um geocaching sem sacos!
