  1. Now I can see this. A "Take the Geocaching Quiz" page where new geocachers can see how they do on Geocaching etiquette and a few regulations. As long as it is fun and pretty easy, I think most newbies would do it. Just as long as it's voluntary and not mandatory. Being voluntary I think more geocachers, even old- timers would do it because it would be new, and the new geocachers would be curious as to how they stack up. I would do a voluntary quiz. I don't think the scores ought to be published, that's only for the individual cacher to know and they can share if they want to, or not.
  2. It may be tedius, but I think you'll enjoy the ability to just use the arrow and distance readout to find a cache. It allows you a little more freedom to look for the cache while you are using the GPS. Have fun.
  3. I've already seen posts from newbies in the getting started section that think this post is for real. They are worrying about placing a first cache and what requirements they need. They are thinking that the more experienced cachers don't think they can do a good job placing a cache. This sport welcomes new members, not bombard them with a bunch of rules and regulations right off the bat. And besides, can anyone prove that newbies are making bad caches, usually they try harder to do good.
  4. Giving out rides? Need a caching buddy? Just kidding, the short/ high tail boom on that heli looks good for landing in small fields and parking lots. I bet you really could do some caching with that. (You better be rich though, helis are expensive to maintain.) I think a converted military Chinook would be cool with a jeep you could drive out the back ramp after landing, that would be the millionares caching setup.
  5. Go to Wal-Mart in the sporting goods section, camping row, and look for orange mach case. They cost about 89 cents. Their waterproof, small, and you can fit a pencil nub in there. Put camo tape on it, it's a little obvious if you leave it orange.
  6. I've never met another cacher. They must have seen me first
  7. A friend of mine has a Gyro, wonder if he'll let me go caching in it. (No Way) It would probably work, wal-mart's have big parking lots.
  8. That's the real enjoyment from hiding caches, getting the logs and knowing people had a good time out looking for stuff you hid in the woods. I know I get a kick out of reading the logs for my caches. Now if you can't go out and find caches very well, you can still get enjoyment from the game by hiding caches. If there is a limitation, it will restrict players with good intentions.
  9. One of my locals is a two person team, I don't know if their related, but they could be sisters, or roommates, or buddies, but they log under one account, and I assume they only cache together.
  10. Watching the coords change is way more hassle than entering the coords manually into your unit. Crack the manual and you'll find out there are easier ways to go caching.
  11. Don't let anyone tell you a newbie can't make a good cache. If you care enough to post here for advice in the first place, your probably going to put some thought into your placement and be as good as the rest. Depending on your area a cemetery cache might be the way to go, they aren't visited a lot, usually have parking, and lots of trees to hide a micro in. Good Luck, welcome to the forums.
  12. If there is a measurable problem with new cachers placing bad caches, why not put the effort into providing more information as to how a cache should be placed. I placed caches as a newbie, they were fine, had you made me take a test and prove myself first, I might not have liked Geocaching. There are enough rules and regulations as it is, don't propose any more until there is a great need.
  13. At one point I had 3 finds to 2 hides, and my caches were well liked. Had there been a test I might not have even become a Geocacher. I eased into this absorbing what I could and found out I liked it, it was fun, and for the most part easy. If you throw a test in there it will just complicate things, it is working fine the way it is. If you want new joiners to feel like a part of the "Community" you have to welcome them, and let them know this isn't a secret society, but open to everyone. I've only been here a little over a month, but I think I'm just as much a member of the community as anyone.
  14. I did note that there might have been another entrance that I didn't find in my log. I might have missed it, there could have been another entrance. I would not (and did not) log SBA unless I was 100% sure that it really needed it, and would rather let the owner know about it first so they could do something about it on their own. However there is a parking slip, and the said dirt trail leading into the woods next to it, with the two posted signs out front. The GPS takes you right to that point which seems to be obviously where the placer intended you to go. If this entrance is blocked, it might be helpful if the owner would state another way in, just to keep someone from thinking "another geocacher visited here, it must be okay to go on in." and getting caught.
  15. Generally with a multi I enter the new coords as a waypoint and tell the unit to GO-TO. Watching the coord numbers is a little hard isn't it? There are lots of people in the forums with E-trex's, they'll probably tell you how to enter stuff and the like.
  16. There are two big POSTED signs at the entrance, I though as Geocachers we avoided trespassing. Particularly in an Upper class community with huge brick homes across the street, and with "neighborhood watch" signs at every corner. I guess I should have said that earlier, but a POSTED sign is a POSTED sign where ever it's placed.
  17. Hope you find them, and can log them, Ive found a few that aren't in the database. Maybe yours will be in there. Look for the reference markers if it has any, they won't be far away.
  18. Deleted cause I responded to Indiana Cojones post in the wrong thread.
  19. I am putting my URL in the box provided when i select the IMG code button. When I submit I just get an error message saying that it will not accept dynamic pages.
  20. Yes, I'm here, still getting this. THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed P.S. I'm using the edit feature, so this post will change a few times. --------------
  21. Let's see here.... [/url (Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed) Thats what I've gotten every time I've tried to post an image so far, I'll keep trying.
  22. Check out these logs. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...af-9e30d0344380 Look at the photo posted before my visit, thats what I saw on saturday and I turned it down, it was visited on tuesday.
  23. Thanks, I'm not sure how to do that but it's a good start. And I know what you talking about on those fourm friendly photos, I have dial-up. I think I am allowed to have a personal webpage with my ISP, i'll look into that.
  24. Hey WebbWalkers, you could probably sell that compass to the people here in the forums for more than you paid for it, when it worked, just as an item of curiosity.
  25. I have tried to post photos with my messages but I can't get a image to appear, it alway rejects the code. How do I insert photo into a post?
