  1. I've used my bicycles for geocaching, but bought my first (and second) motorcycles this summer. Today I took the 1998 Honda Shadow 750 ACE caching. I knew were I would be parking for the first one, so I was able to leave the Garmin Legend in the saddle bag until I arrived. For the second one, I had to stop and dig it out when I got close, and then fine tune my position. I plan on picking up a RAM mount for my Nuvi 255W and installing a power socket to make it easier. Still don't know how to keep all the gear safe while away from the bike hunting. Peter

    maps :-(

I have been using the combination of Toporama maps and GPS Trackmaker for over a year and find it very good. While not quite as detailed, the digital maps are more current than the paper versions we have access to in Newfoundland and Labrador (1979 data?). With both being free, why use anything else? To make useage easier, I save the GIF with the map name and coordinates. (eg. 002e03_Botwood(4925-5550x4900-5500).gif) With that, finding and scaling is a snap. Also, data is easily exchanged with the GPSr, and you can even get real-time positioning. Peter For Wheres In A Name I'm looking for 57 42.542' (57 42' 32.5")
  3. The LAGC has a special cache in place for this weekend only (August 15-17, 2003). Email me at lagc@lewisporteonline.com for the details. Peter Peter For Wheres In A Name I'm looking for 57 42.542' (57 42' 32.5")
  4. Well, now that winter is over, the LAGC has been getting more active. We added a couple new members in recent months, and 2 new caches were placed this spring. The message board and Hall of Fame are fairly popular on our website. Many things are being planned. Everyone is welcome to join and become involved! 5. I invite you to join the Lewisporte club to make it easier to share information between us, and perhaps organize joint activities. Don't forget to sign up for the mailing list! Depending on how you are setting up, I'll also join the Gander club. One of my members is in ON, and another in St. John's. We are going to come up with ways to work together over the distance, like exchanging prizes or travel bugs. Open to suggestions here from everyone. I was scouting a location for another cache yesterday, but there were no good hiding spots in the area I wanted to put it. May have to wait for the snow to melt, and ground to dry, before putting more out. I didn't have to go to Gander this week after all, so may have to make a special club trip in to hunt for the ditch cache. Would prefer to have a couple to make it more worthwhile, so I encourage you to reactivate the Silent Witness cache soon. If the weather is ok, I'll go and check on the first LAGC cache today to ensure all is ok for your hunt. Peter For Wheres In A Name I'm looking for 57 42.542' (57 42' 32.5")
  6. I occasionally chat online with a guy originally from here, who now lives in Ontario. I think he read about geocaching somewhere and told me about it a few weeks ago. He also pointed me to geocaching.com, where I was surprised to see there was a cache about an hour away. I haven't found it yet, but decided to increase the number of caches in the area for anyone else who stumbles across the sport here, or wants to visit. I already had a GPSr for boating, but now I will be able to get much more use and enjoyment out of it. 7. In case you had problems before, the guestbook should now be working with all browsers. If you have a problem, let me know. Peter For Wheres In A Name I'm looking for 57 42.542' (57 42' 32.5") [This message was edited by J.P.Haliburton on March 30, 2002 at 05:50 AM.]
  8. In an attempt to get geocaching established in this area, I'm creating a club. It was only a few weeks ago I found out about the sport, but I'd like to have some things in place for when the weather improves. I have a website setup at <http://www.lewisporteonline.com/lagc/> and would welcome any suggestions you more experienced geocachers might have for it, or the club. Thanks; Peter Peter Haliburton Haliburton Enterprises http://www.HalEnt.ca [This message was edited by J.P.Haliburton on March 26, 2002 at 07:22 AM.]
  9. I have decided to follow your lead and create a club for the Lewisporte area. Got a rough website put together to try and attract some members. LAGC Will make up posters to put around town too. Any progress being made on a Newfoundland and Labrador association? Peter Peter Haliburton Haliburton Enterprises http://www.HalEnt.ca
  10. I don't think there are enough geocachers in Central Newfoundland yet to subdivide by community. I'm in Lewisporte, and probably the only one here. Would you consider expanding GAGA to include all of central? I have not been able to access your website to see what you have in mind. Maybe smaller, community groups affiliated with a larger one would make more sense. I'll do up my own Geocaching website soon and see how things go.
