  1. Crazy! My tribal name is Magnet of Cholla! We must be cousins!
  2. 20 feet? That's it? Heck, the other day, I found 3 caches that were all 30 ft. off, I'm thinking it was a bad day for my GPS unit. We had a geocacher that was hiding caches and every single time, they were from 20-100 ft. off. We found out later that she was using a TomTom-type GPS unit. We assumed that she just posted the coordinates for where she parked her car!
  3. I never realized there was a rule about caches near schools. Here, there are quite a few caches on school grounds. I was told that caches were allowed on high school campuses but not on elementary campuses, but I've found several caches that are on the sidewalk in front of the elementary school instead. Not really a place I want to visit at, say, 3:45 Monday through Friday.
  4. I don't think I would have said anything. It's the cache owner's option to load the cache with swag, just as it's their option to hide an ammo can or an altoids tin. Most caches end up empty after a few visits anyways, because there will always be a few cachers that take something and leave nothing. If this is a something that bothers you, you could always stop by the cache and load a few goodies in there and I'm SURE that the cachers that find it after you do so would appreciate that!
  5. Depending on what's going on, I would plan to show. (I say it like this because I have a wedding coming up soon and I think that might tick a few people off if I reschedule the wedding for a geocaching event.) I would love to make an event up to Elko and have another State-wide Meet & Greet. NevadaWolf put one together a couple years ago and it was a great time!
  6. We're not so detail oriented that we have separate winter cache containers. But then again, I live in the desert. There's not much difference between summer and winter landscapes here. Last year was the first year I'd ever had to dig through snow to get to a cache and I don't think I'll ever do that again. Since I'm not too familiar with snow, I really have no business posting here. However, I think the styrofoam ball idea is awesome, and pine cone caches never fail.
  7. So what are some of Signal's Laws that you've figured out? I know there are more, but here are a couple. Please help me compile the list: "A cache you own will only need maintenance at the most inopportune time, such as when you're out of town or sick." "Caches that are published in the evening will only be published on the evenings you decide to go to bed early."
  8. It's in California, northeast of Barstow. See GC1JF15 for one of the caches, then use the map to see the rest. There's another series based on the Clue game that spells out a huge CLUE on the map. It's a series of 55 caches. See GC1KFZN (Mr Green with the pistol) for one of it's caches. Again, see the map. It was pristine when it was placed but other cachers have added many more caches to the area so it's not so clear any more. the one in Barstow popped up about 8 months after the one in Las Vegas, Nevada showed up. See GC18PT4 for the Nevada smiley.
  9. Oh my gosh, I saw almost that exact same image (vehicle didn't have the GPS sticker) about 20 years ago! Remember "V"? And to prevent the squirts or screams, they ate the smaller rodents. For those of you into hamster snacks, may I recommend the younger ones, ones that are one-bit snack size? Since the age of maturity depends on the breed, I'd recommend snack food when the hamsters get to about golf ball size.
  10. The person that introduced me to jee-o-cash-ing pronounced the latter part of the word "cachet." I think he still does, and if he doesn't it's probably because he got tired of me harassing him about it. I assume he got the pronunciation from the news, where it was always pronounced as "cachet."
  11. Yeah, and what if it's a mystery or a multi? I guess their caching contact should be someone that has every cache in the area. But then, that cacher would have so many finds, they might not remember which one is under investigation. I don't think the police are overreacting at all. The public's safety is their first concern, not the safety of an inanimate object. I'd rather have to replace my cache because it got blown up as a possible weapon, than hear about people being injured by a weapon that was thought to have been a geocache.
  12. On the home computers, I use Firefox with no issues whatsoever. At work, I use IE with no issues whatsoever. Firefox seems to run faster, but that may just be that my home computers are way better than the work computer!
  13. Having trust in a company that you've done business with is awesome. But when it comes to money....well, businesses don't always have the same perspective as individuals. I've never heard of billing your card before the item ships and would have been suspect after the first time they pushed back the order date. It really sucks that you trusted this company and they did that and are now trying to avoid you. Having said that, I also recently made a purchase with a coin company. I got the notification that the coins were ready, I waited a week and then paid for my order. A couple days later, I received notification that one of hte coins was NOT ready and that it would be a couple of weeks. You can bet I'm keeping an eye on that one!
  14. That was my immediate thought as well...until I read the OP, where it is stated that attempting to view ALL logs was TOO MANY logs. I guess for a cache that has 8500 logs, I could see that as a problem.
  15. Um, I think that might not be such a good idea. I'm thinking some of the hamstercache owners (I was going to use the acronym, but after seeing it, I think we need to have a different one) wouldn't like that. We love our hamsters!
  16. There's a new group for geocachers in the desert southwest, Geocachers of the Mojave Desert, or GeoMode for short. GeoMoDe
  17. I've been caching for over 4 years now, but I've never been real active on the Groundspeak forums. I used to visit one of our local geocaching forums all the time, the new local forum isn't doing much yet, and I miss chatting with geocachers. I guess that means I'm no longer a lurker!
  18. If Paypal hasn't solved the issue, then contact the credit card company. I use Paypal a lot, but I STILL run everything through my credit card instead of my bank account (as Paypal would prefer).
  19. That really doesn't seem feasible. Two suspicious guys hiding a suspicious package near a church that had recently had issues. The suspicious guys run from the scene when approached. So instead of immediately rendering safe the suspicious package, the police officers should wait around and see if the cache gets published soon? Or they should log on to the local geocaching site and ask, "Hey, has anyone recently hidden a an ammo can over by the college?" That might work if you can guarantee an immediate response, but otherwise, that seems to me like the police would be wasting a lot of time. Sure, WE know it's geocaching, but how are THEY supposed to know and is that a chance the police want to take? I think not.
  20. Yeah, we didn't think to take pictures before we put the cache out, and surprisingly enough, no one else has taken pictures either. Someone's already trashed up the cache though (they placed a SHREW in it!) so I'm going to make a run this weekend, clean it up, and snap some pics. We have a ninja hamster, and I remember a brown and white one, a Santa hamster as well. I don't remember much more than that. I'll post pics after I snap them.
  21. So, so unfair. Prejudice against desert hamstercaches? My hamstercache (GC1YY7G) has been out since September 18, and at last report, they're still doing well. Several hamstercachers were worried when it was first hidden (all they knew was the name of the cache, nothing else), but now that they know how well the hamsters are taken care of, it's all good.
  22. I have the GreaseMonkey add-on running with my Firefox. I downloaded one of the scripts (can't remember the name of it now, but look it up at http://gmscripts.locusprime.net/ ) and so every time I open up any cache page, it shows all the logs. It's a nice little feature.
