  1. If it were your child murdered, would you want someone making a cache out of the site her body was found? What if it was your cousin, best friend, grand daughter, she was a real person, she has real family, there are people who have truely had their lives shattered by this experience, and I think that you would even suggest it shows what a poor excuse for a human being you are....with more in common with someone so callous as to kill another than with those of us who are decent enough to be totally offended by the very suggestion of this cache. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  2. Well at least in my area, and with my caches that were plundered, I know for a fact that it is not the case. My caches are not easy to find at all, they are well covered, ask anyone who has searched for one, and almost every one of them has had at least one or two failures to find, because they are well hidden. One cache that was stolen completely was very well hidden and only available to who ever had my travel bug, which also was stolen. No one has yet to explain how a simple step of creating an account and logging on before you view co-ordinates is an unreasonable burdon. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  3. I'd be willing to pay more....heck $30 bucks isn't too much, it's too little. Hey Jeremy, raise the rates! (and include a free patch made special just for charter members) ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

  5. I don't see why on earth there would be any oposition to requiring a little bit of hoop jumping to get co-ordinates. I mean really, if a person isn't willing to create a free account, give a valid email address, and log in to play, then frankly, they don't need to be playing, as if they are opposed to such simple rules of conduct, they probably won't think twice about violating other rules of conduct, such as leaving something if you take something, logging a find, not stealing the whole cache, not taking a dump in the cache, and so on. People who are so opposed to following a few rules, and taking a few simple steps to participate in a game make me worried, I mean who are these people that are so self-absorbed or paranoid that they are unwilling to play by some simple rules or log into a site to play? Really, is this game so desperate for players that we want to keep it as open as possible.....like a home with no door on it, so that any trash can make it's way in and stink up the place with nothing to hinder it. Sure, the lack of a door makes it easier for those of us who are wanting to enter for legit purposes to enter and play, but a simple door....not even a locked door....will keep out most of the riff raff who have no legitimate business...sure there will always be the bold who will try the handle and enter to do thier nasty business anyway, but many of the nar-do-wells won't, so while a simple door won't eliminate problems, it will reduce them. And a lock will further reduce problems, but also won't completely eliminate them, but it will further reduce them. So the question is, do you want it to be EASY for slimeballs to mess up our game, or do you want to put at least a small obstical in their path, and reduce the number of jerks? I mean really, if it only reduced plundered caches by 1/3 wouldn't that be worth it? I know if my cache were one of the 1/3 not plundered, I'd be grateful. I'm not saying we should put a lock on the door, plus a deadbolt and stick a chair under the door handle and post a rotweiler behind the chair, frightening off even legit prospective players, just put a simple stinking door up. Require people to at least be logged in with a valid account. It's simple, it's not terribly invasive, and it may cut down on at least some of the wrong doers. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  6. Like jfitzpat said, orientation of the GPS makes a big difference, your body blocks sat reception worse than the trees. If I let my Legend dangle from my neck via the lanyard, I can lose reception in even light tree cover, but if I keep it up on my shoulder (I stick it between my pack strap and shoulder) it keeps reception very well, even in heavier tree cover. I've heard that the meridian line gets better reception due to the quad helix antenna, but those things are huge. I like small gadgets, so the trade off is worth it. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  7. I don't know if they still have them for this price, but about 6 weeks ago I got a bunch of 30 cal ammo cans from Sgt. Gators Surplus in Damascus (near Boring) for $2 each. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  8. I don't understand why this would be a new tactic. Loran, which is commonly used for marine navigation, is quite accurate, has been for years, and most commercial and larger craft have it. You could do the same thing with it. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  9. kd7mxi "MATH AND READING i don't know math because it gives me a headache. I can read at the college level but hate to study and read long sentences and articles." Sounds to me like a big case of the lazies, not a learning disability. I don't like math either, hate it actually, took only that which was required to get out of high school with a diploma, and barely passed most math classes(failed algebra once, had to retake it). I don't like to read books or long articles, though I can read at a college level as well, yet I don't live with my parents. I'm a dad, with a family of my own. I haven't lived with my parents since I was a teenager. So far as genuine learning disabilities go, I have a friend who is dyslexic, he had to take special classes to help him learn to overcome his dyslexia, but he still managed to get a two year auto-cad degree, from there he worked his way up in an engineering firm, ended up the Network Administrator. Learning disability was an obstical to work around for him, not a dead end road. When I was in high school, I worked at Burger King, the girl that trained me when I got the job there, she had a learning disability, she had Downs Syndrome, yet that didn't stop her from living on her own, holding a job, and she was a trainer for the drive through speed team. Now sure, she probably never went on to work in some high tech job, but she didn't let her learning disability be an excuse either, she overcame. Why are people interested in your life? I wouldn't say we are so much interested as frustrated by the foolish things you say, and when you interject saying you have a learning diability as an excuse when you are called on various things, well it makes people wonder. You say you can't type because you have a learning disability, and that is why you use cap locks so often (despite the fact you have been told over and over it is so anoying) well I know of plenty of mentally handicaped people who HAVE learned how to type, so if someone who is retarded can learn to type someone with a "learning disability" can learn to type as well. You were able to learn all that you have to learn to get a ham radio license, so you clearly can learn when you want to, so quit using a "learning disability" as an excuse, it may be an obstical, but it isn't an impassable wall. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  10. Na, this isn't the first person in the Oregon area to have a cache deficated in. There is definately someone in the area who likes to vandalize caches, steal caches, steal travelbugs. In Salem alone we had three travel bugs go missing and at least two caches go missing...plus the cache I put out that was stolen could ONLY be found by the person who took my travel bug, I was hoping they would return the bug, but instead they stole the cache too. It was well hidden, and in briars, so I know it wasn't found by accident. We have some loser, or losers in the area, who get a kick out of spoiling other peoples good time it seems. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

  12. What I want to see someone do is create a mapping program that "does it all" for the palm o.s. One that does routing like mapopolis, but also allows for uploading and downloading of waypoints from your GPSr so you can auto route based on your waypoints. Yeah yeah I know I could go get a Garmin V or a Magellan Gold and they would do these things, but the maps available for those are left wanting in many areas, plus I can't also use the unit for my other PIM aps as well as my readers, and so on. So I'd like to see a program that allows me to get routes from one waypoint to another, manage my waypoints, load both city maps and topo maps, and makes use of extended memory such as the memory sticks on my SOny Clie NR70, also it would be nice if it would support the new larger screen option my hi-res Clie' NR70 offers. I'm asking a lot I'm sure....but there are programs out there that if combined, would do it all, but each program is lacking by itself. To date I have tried.... mapopolis....great maps, does address to address autorouting, I can store maps in my memory stick. Shortfall....no way to import waypoints (except making a waypoint where you are at the moment, if you are hooked up to a GPSr) no topographic maps. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it. Fugawi, great program, uses both topo maps, street maps, and even has nautical maps. You can add waypoints, do auto-routing and so forth, only problem, the only way you can get info on your palm is to create a route on your PC, adding in your waypoints and so on, then you essentially clip the info and maps you want and load them onto your palm, you can't actually create routes on the go on your palm, nor can you load waypoints directly to the maps in the palm. Checked out the new XMap, looked promising...but I found out that they do not offer waypoint management in the new XMap handheld, though if I remember right solus pro did...but it had other problems, and also is no longer offered by delorme. Tried GPS Pilot, cool, you can create maps from scanned images, you can get free maps, ect. But of course you can't do autorouting, and add to that the additional problem that you can't seem to use extended memory, such as memory sticks, all maps must be in the internal memory...well that stinks, as maps are fairly large files. So, anyone know of something that does it all??? [This message was edited by RAD Dad on May 26, 2002 at 10:31 PM.]
  13. When I try and open a EasyGPS .loc file that I downloaded from my Legend as well as other .loc files that I have saved with easygps I get this error message from Geobuddy "Unknown Tag: %d" I have no problem opening .loc files just downloaded from geocaching.com, but files I have created by either downloading my waypoints off my legend with easygps, or files I have opened and changed in easygps don't open in geobuddy. Anyone know what I'm saying, and what my problem is? ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  14. Generally if a cache has been found to be plundered or gone missing by the cache owner, it is deactivated. While it may still show up on a map, it will show in the list at the bottom of each page as being inactive. Some caches are inactive only temporarily, some more long term, and some should be archieved, but if you are careful to read the description, most that aren't there anymore, say right at the top of the cache page that they are disabled. Also, I like to read descriptions and cache logs to get a feel for what others have experienced when searching for the cache, gives me a better idea of what I'm in for. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  15. That makes me so angry! What is wrong with people???? I have had a travelbug and a cache stolen, pretty low, but man, this is WAY lower! I don't understand why people feel the need to be such jerks, I mean you went to effort to put this out there for people to find and enjoy, you even relocated it when you found that it's location was tough due to poison oak, and what's the first thing some jerk does? They go and defecate in it! It is possible some non-cacher did it, that it was some stupid drunk who stumbled upon it by accident, but chances are better that it is someone who knew about geocaching, and went looking for it with purpose to be a jerk. Of course they are not only a low life sleaze ball, but they also are a coward, as they didn't fess up to the act even. This is yet another example of why members only caches are starting to look attractive to me. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

  17. Why all the secrecy and code talk? Surely everyone knows who Bill W is, I mean, the bumper stickers, "I'm a friend of Bill W." "one day at a time" "easy does it" heck I believe E.R. even dropped Bill W.'s name durring the episodes in which they dealt with Dr. Carters Drug addiction, and Abbey's alcoholism. But for those who may be out of the loop....if you are a friend of Bill, you are a member of A.A., I think N.A. qualifies as well. Me, no, I'm not. I have had friends who were. Anyway, I understood what Heavenly Host was getting at, as one of my friends (a female) talked about the meetings and dances and so forth and the guys who seemed to be there just to hit on the ladies that were in attendance. Considering many A.A. chapters have dances and other social functions, the assertment is not completely without merit, even if a little tongue in cheeck. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  18. quote:Originally posted by kd7mxi: WHAT is wrong about having a learning dissability?" I have heard you reference this "learning dissability" before as an excuse for your poor spelling, and for your cap locks being on a lot. What I want to know is what does a learning disability have to do with living with your parents still? What kind of learning disability do you have that would keep you from living on your own? ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  19. Soda, pop, Soda-pop. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  20. none of the above. I take water. So far as soda goes, I like grape soda, strawberry soda, root beer, sprite, 7-up, cream soda, though I really don't drink soda that often. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  21. The Heavenly Host, I really enjoyed those links you posted. I just finished reading them, and were very interesting, I've bookmarked them, and am planning on importing them to my palm as well. Thanks! ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  22. Yeah, when are the green hats going to be available??? I want to order a hat, a shirt or two, and a patch, plus some other things such as the compass keychains (for puts), but I'm waiting till everything is available, so I don't have to have multiple incidents of shipping costs tacked on. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

  24. Your GPSr needs to get to know you better I suggest you get it as close to your brain as possible and then think hard about it, for this task you will probably need some vaseline, and you will need to drop your pants. Guys this Ozkar is a troll. If you read his other posts it is clear he is not serious here, and is just looking to stir things up. Read his thread about red meat, also read his profile. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it. 25. I like my legend, but if you don't mind spending the extra bucks, get the Vista. Either way, I like the small size of the Etrex, and they are easy to use. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
