  1. Legal methods such as avant go? What Avant Go pays to allow you to DL the info? They don't. You can use Avant Go on any website, whether the web admin knows about it or not. But Avant Go is a pain. I tried it myself, was the first thing I tried. It sucks. Size limitations, and once I got the pages on my Visor, it would get hung up on whether or not I was logged on. Frankly if I were the admins of this site, I would actually pay the guy who came up with the palmable site to have them maintain it here. It is frustrating that this site isn't set up for palm use already, after all the whole point of geocaching is using handheld devices to find where you are going, it only makes sense that all this data should be made readily available for the latest handheld gizzmo. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  2. Can you adjust the level of detail you wish to DL from Metroguide in order to reduce the file size you are transfering and increase the maximum area available for download? For instance, looking at the details at Garmins site, it looks like it has all kinds business points, well I don't want those, and they would be extra clutter, if I could choose not to DL them, that would increase the hard data I do want (streets, lakes, rivers, streams, ect.) Thanks for the info. -Rich ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  3. I have searched the Garmin site, and the actual useful information given there is quite limited when it comes to their mapping programs. No reference as to how much memory is required to load what ect. ect. I would like to have charts loaded on my Garmin Etrex Legend GPS for the Puget Sound Region and the Columbia river, but I have no idea how much I would be able to load on the 8 megs available. For that matter, if I wanted to get the more detailed street maps, what should I get, and how much memory do they take? For instance, how much memory would it take to load the maps for Portland Oregon, how much detail would I get? Which street mapping program should I get? What are the detail differences between say the U.S. Roads and Recreation CD and the U.S. metroguide? And what about the U.S. Waterways and Lights? The base map on my GPS doesn't have many of the smaller islands in the Puget Sound or even some of the larger islands on the Columbia. Any help or personal experience with these products would be helpful Thanks, Rich ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  4. I love that Palmable Geocaching site. It makes things much easier. I have settled on iSilo. Looked seriously at plucker but it is a little more work than I am willing to put in for such a simple task, and Avant Go is a pain with it's size limitations and all, plus the stupid ads. Now I saw on the Palmable Geocaching site a notice that you may not be able to continue updating due to issues with Geocaching.com have you worked this out? If not, I hope you will. Frankly I don't understand why geocaching.com doesn't offer to host your site or use your program so that all the geocaches will be palmable. It's a fantastic service! ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  5. I'm new to this site, but this is not unusual. I have frequented other sites that have taken to having a members only section for a fee in order to help defray the costs of maintaining the site with out littering it with thousands of anoying popup adds that hog bandwidth and slow load times. It is a good idea, and I'm probably going to join up. $30 a year for something I enjoy won't break my bank, and it is a way I can help contribute to something I like, enjoy using and want to see improve. This site looks very popular, and that kind of bandwidth and storage space costs money. I'm sure that the admin could get plenty of pop up ads poping up everywhere to pay for it, but that would be so anoying. I avoid sites with a lot of ads because they are such a pain to navigate through. Membership has it privilages, and I hope that that will also be a bonus here. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

Isn't that illegal - to search your stuff without a warrant?" Illegal, no, not if you give them permission. Sad? Yes. Just as sad as the fact that many state parks do forbid you to have a firearm. What good is a second ammendment if you can't carry anywhere but your home? Seems to me that when the forbid such things they are infringing on our rights. What if you run into a cougar, or a human predator? You are left at the mercy of animals that may see you as prey (Both 4 legged and 2 legged variety) In general I don't carry, rarely go to areas where I feel the need, but when I do, when I go to remote areas where I am on my own should I run into something dangerous, I do, and I should have that right to keep myself and family safe, and not have to fear going places. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

  8. Well, thanks for all the replies and good ideas. I have tried AvantGO, problem I ran into is it keeps telling me I need to log on, and to do that I have to enter user name, password, then resync. Thing is, even after it see's me as being logged on, it somehow decides I logged off, and then I can't view things again...pain in the rear. I think I will try and use that site that is optimized for the palm, it appears that many of the caches in my area are there on that site. If anyone understands my problem with loggin in/out with Avantgo (this is a problem unique to pages at geocache, never run into it when I go to some other things I use avantgo for.) help would be appreciated. Thanks again. Oh....and I tried to go find a cache today, using a Magellan 300, it was one my dad got for free a few years ago for test driving a Lincoln with OnStar. Anyway, I found it so frustrating to use, and so slow that I went out and bought a Garmin Etrex Legend....MUCH better, much easier, and updates position fast. (plus I can hook it up to my laptop and with streets and trips see where I am on a map and where I'm going) ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  9. Is there any software out there to download the cache info (all of it, coordinates, description, find logs ect.) to my Visor (uses palm o.s.) I know you can download to that easygps program for the PC, but I want to be able to have all the logs, coordinates, and descriptions on my Visor. I'm new to all this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rich ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
  10. My name... "RAD Dad" RAD my initials, I am a dad, also, my son's initials also are RAD, so I am RAD, and I'm a Dad, and I'm RAD's Dad, thus, RAD Dad. ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.
