Still, there's something to be said for the classic handhelds using AA batteries.

Based on the Montana 700 series owners manual, we'll be able to install AA batteries into the device with an optional batter pack sold separately for $59.99.

I also just did a chat session with Garmin support and someone by the name of "Chris" confirmed that the 750i comes with lifetime updates for City Navigator.

  2. New update out for VIRB Edit for Windows: Version 2.2.5

Changes made from version 2.2.3 to 2.2.5:

    Fixed more export issues.

    Fixed a start-up issue.

Tried updating to version 2.3.2 in Windows 7 and now Virb software crashes when trying to open. Have you been able to update to the newest version 2.3.2?

Have you tried uninstalling the previous version, or the flawed version first before installing it again? That would be my first choice.

Yes, tried uninstalling, restarting PC and same outcome. Looks like a call to Garmin needs to take place.

  4. All my lock ups this weekend occurred after recording. Please keep us posted...

Have you tried a different uSD card? What card are you using? Brand? Class?

Have you tried the "Factory Reset"?

Those are the two things I would try first, in your situation.

    I'm using a SanDisk Ultra 64gb I believe it's a class 10.

I just checked and see there's an update for the VIRB. I'm going to update and see if it correct some of my issues.

  5. I also have the GoPro2 and really enjoy using that. I have MANY Garmin products and sort of needed this. lol I do like the switch to start the recording process on the VIRB. I have to admit I think the VIRB will be my go to camera now. I'm even thinking of selling my GoPro2 on Ebay. I emailed Garmin about the satellite issue and here was support's response.

If your Virb or Virb Elite is failing to perform as expected, it may be necessary to master reset the device. Master resets clear user settings by restoring the device to factory default settings. There are a few other troubleshooting steps that can be performed before a master reset.

Often issues are caused by corrupt GPS user data, videos or photos. You may want to backup this data before removing it from the device. To remove this data from the device, reference the section “Erasing Your Memory Card” in the owner's manual.

    To perform a master reset:

Ensure the device is powered off

    Press and hold Down

    Press and immediately release Power

Wait for the message "Erase all user data?"

    Release Down

    Select Yes

The device should now be reset to default factory settings, all user data should be removed, and the device should function as expected.

  6. The manual for the VIRB Elite can be downloaded here (http://support.garmin.com/support/manuals/manuals.htm?partNo=010-01088-10).

I have the Elite and have been having issues with it connecting to the satellites. I've tried everything from resetting the battery, resetting the unit and walking out into an open field with a complete open view to the sky and no dice. It will not connect! I've emailed Gamin support, just waiting for a reply. I hope they come out with software updates.

Has anyone had an issue connecting to the satellites?

Mine does lose the sats occasionally in treed areas. But it is connected most of the time.

    When did you buy yours?

    I bought mine from http://www.thegpsstore.com/

How about you, where did you purchase yours?

I bought mine from GPSCity, but I was more interested in when you bought yours.

I purchased mine on Nov 1st.

  9. I have the opportunity to purchase a GPSMAP 60CSx windshield mount on clearance at a local store for 19.99.

Here is the mount - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1007

Can someone tell me if the GPSMAP 62S will fit into this mount? I see on the Garmin page that there is a link that shows the compatible products. However, it doesn't show the 62s, but both GPS's are almost identical on the outside.

    Thanks in advance,

    RJ

Go with a RAM mount. I have the window mount for sale and all you need to do is buy the cradle from GPScity.

    Thanks

I have the RAM mount for the 62 and unless you need to use the unit on a motorcycle or snow machine, the Garmin mount is much more convenient, and does not make access to the lower buttons more difficult. i think Garmin's got a good system for the mounts now, with their rail system.

In a car, I much prefer the Garmin system. It's a one-handed operation, putting the gps back on the Garmin mount.

I will be using this on snowmobile. I currently have the GPS375 marine mount on my snowmobile. I was hoping this one would fit my GPSMAP62s then I would just need to remove it from the base and screw it on to the 375 base.

So with that being said, I would be better off getting the RAM marine mount for the 62s?

    Thanks again,

  12. Bottom line, is the compass usable??

I never have problems with the compass - simply make it a habit of calibrating it each time you change the batteries, and you should be good to go.

I’m not sure if it matters, but I was told by Garmin support that the compass should be calibrated every time the unit is powered up. Just thought I would share that with all the users here.

With the GPS having to be held at a level position to get an accurate compass reading, it brings up a question that I have. Is this do to the hardware that is used in the GPSr, or is it because of the software? Is this something Garmin can change with a firmware upgrade? It would be nice to use the compass without having to hold the unit level.

    Thanks,

  13. Funny you posted this.... I have a 400t and have experienced the same issue you are referring to. I JUST got off the phone with Garmin. That is exactly what I was told. Depending on the canopy cover or buildings around you, you may experience the "drift". I was told this happens because of the high sensitivity receiver that's installed in the 400t.

    It's annoying though.
