  1. One of my fellow comrades-in-Waymarking once mentioned creating a category for headstones of the Odd Fellows. He'd seen something unusual in his neck of the woods, and expected that what he'd seen was pretty uncommon, wondering aloud if there would be interest in a category. Where I live, I could walk a large cemetery and find dozens of headstones with the three links of the Odd Fellows -- three chain links with F-L-T superimposed upon them -- but I admit that what he'd seen -- a headstone with a tent and a reference to the organization -- is something I don't see much (although I do have one within seven miles of where I live). I'd love to create "Fraternal Organizations Multifarious", for some of the lesser-known fraternal organizations that were active a hundred years ago and earlier, but for the life of me, I have no idea where I would draw the line. Plus, every time I think I've seen 'em all (ha), I encounter something else on a cemetery walk where Google turns up nothing on a search of their initials or emblem. In one case, I got in touch with the main organization, mentioning that I'd seen one of their members headstones some five hours away from where their HQ is, and they really enjoyed seeing the photos. I'm with you...I'd rather share these for someone's enjoyment instead of just visiting them.
  2. Try this little stunt that someone pulled a few weeks ago. Either this guy should have his account pulled (if it hasn't been done so already), or he should be on the receiving end of the Blood Eagle. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMY5A3_AOL_1866_2016261_AOL_desktop_Gold_Password_reset_Contact_tech_AK_47
  3. Thanks to you and vulture1957 for the responses. I did have a little click-fest like vulture1957 suggested, to no avail, and I think you've got the right answer on the Flash thing, now that it's supposed to go away by 2020. I did fire up an older version of Opera on my backup laptop, and surprise, surprise, there's the map, with Ohio joining the list of states where I've officially waymarked now.
  4. Anybody not seeing the maps on the Maps tab under your profile? It lists numbers of what I've waymarked (or visited) in the United States, by state, and by Canadian province, but I'm missing the map that would fill in a country/state/province once I waymarked/visited in a particular region, if that makes sense.
  5. Found this while walking a cemetery not too long ago. Doesn't seem to be a fit for the Korean Memorials, but it's a cenotaph for one lost American soldier. Findagrave notes that he was murdered in Korea, buried on the spot, and we don't know where his remains are today. If anything, Graves of Unusual Deaths will take it.
  6. No luck for me on searches right now ... if I enter a location and search on it, the results are simply all the new waymarks.
  7. FWIW, I've been in touch with jhuoni through all of this. He and Mrs. jhuoni are OK. The rest of the Texas waymarkers I know, besides BB -- TeamBPL and QuesterMark -- aren't close to the action. In fact, QM and I are more likely to be flooded at this point by the Red River than we are by Harvey.
  8. We'll be watching for a Starbucks or two from you.
  9. We had that happen over in the Texas Historical Markers category a few weeks ago. I submitted a marker, found nothing in the immediate area when I was creating it, and then LATER found the same marker at the coordinates for another marker. We got rid of my entry after updating the original with my information and a few photos.
  10. Once in a blue moon, I come across a headstone or a historical marker of some kind, noting the heroism of a person who saved the life of another, sometimes losing their own life in doing so, indicating that they were given a Carnegie Medal for their heroism. I'll photograph these at every opportunity, but I wondered if a category dedicated to Carnegie Medal recipients would be of interest. What I see against it is that there aren't many outside of the United States and Canada, and there aren't as many out there as, say, Woodmen of the World monuments, but we've got a "Medal Of Honor Resting Places" category for a loose comparison. If there's interest, I'll put something together in the coming weeks. If not, I'll keep on doing what I've been doing all along. Good reading is here: http://www.carnegiehero.org/ There are nearly ten thousand recipients of the Carnegie Medal. Some of them survived their ordeal, some of them didn't -- the subject of one Texas Historical Marker I photographed recently is looking right at you on the main page, at the far left, second down -- and I expect that the easy ones would be headstones that reference the medal. Historical markers or Signs of History would be acceptable, and I can't see why something similar that doesn't refer the medal would be unacceptable, so long as the appropriate documentation accompanies the submission (like the recipient's listing on the Carnegie site). Maybe even one News Article Location per incident.
  11. I can't see how it would qualify for a category (and I don't think that they're a fit for the Out of Place Graves category), but when I visit cemeteries here in Texas, besides keeping my open for graves of Confederate soldiers, I'm also on the lookout for graves of Union soldiers. They're uncommon, but for someone like me who's history-minded, I often wonder what brought these folks to Texas, and whether old battles were fought if someone who'd fought for the Confederacy lived nearby.
  12. You might find a home for some of those in "Country Churches," I bet.
  13. You are right, I am wrong, and I apologize for my haste.
  14. Rest assured, no. My annoyance, ill-founded, was "It's OK to use someone else's photos to create your waymark?" Of course, it's OK to use one's -own- photos for one's own waymark.
  15. Can I say the f-bomb in here? JHC, it's been a long --- day, and I haven't even had a beer yet. Laugh it up, gang, I deserve it. Delete the thread when you're done with it.

  17. A waymark was cleared today in the Abandoned Cemeteries category. Two of the photos in the submission look awfully familiar to me, as they're two of the same group that I took myself and then used when I submitted the same cemetery into the Worldwide Cemeteries category some time ago. How do I handle this here, please? Addendum: Compare: QDV: http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMN0YG_Eason_Gray_Cemetery_Shady_Shores_TX TerraViators http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMQY5B_Historical_1874_Eason_Gray_Cemetery_Shady_Shores_TX [but the map shows it's in China.]
  18. I don't know which browser you're using, but with Chrome and Firefox I have an extension called CleanPrint that lets me remove all the junk before I send the finished product to my printer. There's another utility, a bookmarklet called Printliminator, that is quite good, too.
  19. Took quite some time for me to get an AOG submission cleared. A direct e-mail to the group leader never garnered a reply. Lone_Gunman really has been alone in this one.
  20. Irfanview is one such example of alternative software that can help, for those who want to give it a spin. http://www.irfanview.com
  21. It's at it again, so I'm hoping that, the minute I hit "Add Reply" here, the problem resolves itself through the magic of Odin or Freya.
