  1. glad to hear its not just me. Trying to sort caches out for tomorrow but pages just wont load
  2. The actual phonebox (the old red ones) are worth a fair bit of money there are some collectors out there for them.
  3. I dont get it as I see it, the GC they are launching in the UK is the same as the US version, it has a worldwide base map on it from what I have read. You can buy it for under £100 on ebay from the US brand new inc P&P
  4. EDIT should have read last post, see it has been published now.
  5. Hope I got this right, but here is a couple from my way (North Devon) The landkey loop, I think its a loop of 28 caches GC2ACYF Landkey Loop Way Down West, a figure of 8 or 2 loops. I think the whole figure of 8 is 20 miles and 105 caches in total. GC24YCW Way Down West loop Mist 24 caches GC2QJ67 Mist Loop
  6. You wouldn't go looking for an archived cache, but if it had been archived after the last log or the CO left a note to say that GZ was now clean why wouldn't you go looking for that cache? Just because the CO only found clean wrapped needles doesn't mean the area hasn't been cleaned between the last log and CO getting down to GZ, the site may be a frequent spot for users, who knows.
  7. Thanks for letting us know. I always thought they were perfectly safe. Not sure what it has to do with this cache, however. Maybe before giving a sarcastic reply you should take the time to read the whole thread. As from post 2 it was mentioned about syringes at the GZ and the link given to the cache showed logs stating the same. EPIC FAIL!!!! Not quite epic. Try reading the whole thread! The CO has stated that the syringes were wrapped and clean. I don't know, I haven't been but the CO certainly has. So what's dirty needles got to do with this cache? And you must admit that stating the obvious followed by "FACT" is rather likely to bring about a sarcastic reply on any internet forum...FACT! (sarcastic reply expected) The last log stated "Right on the money with this one. Though please exercise caution at GZ.Dont just launch your hand in. Lotts of broken glass torn cans and syringes and needles litter the ground around the hide. FOR WARNED IS FOR ARMED" no mention that the syringes were unused, to me if your warning people of syringes they generally are open and a hazard, end of. In the end this is a game, thats all so no one should be risking their health for this "GAME", the reviewer gave the CO plenty of time to do something about but for what ever reason he/she didn't do anything in the time frame, so it was archived. The CO has now made a move to sort the cache out and it will no doubt be enabled again. No one has visited the site looking for the cache and potentially got stuck with a needle and the cache will be live again soon. I wonder how many peoples day was truly ruined by this single cache after being archived. I suspect those on this thread kicking up the most fuss aren't even effected by this cache at all anyway.
  8. I have a garmin GPSMap 76cx. Don't know what to replace it with when the time comes but i'm very happy with this one at the moment.

  10. I find with the new map it either works really well or is very buggy. Today its not been showing my finds and the box was ticked, it was displaying the caches i wanted but they weren't clickable wouldn't even show the name, it was as if they weren't there lol.
  11. I agree, having recently moved from my very inaccurate GPS phone to a garmin unit i'm well impressed, the batteries (normally AA rechargeable batteries) are just going and going. Been using it o get to the locations and for caching and the battery indicator is still showing 3 out 4 bars, after 3 days of caching. I now use GSAK to load the caches then use the export to .txt for the caches pages which i load onto my phone for viewing if i need too. Paperless caching effectively and works perfectly.
  12. if your actually discussing this cache alone then 7 days is far too long, used needles are dangerous FACT and encouraging people to go to that area is just as dangerous and irresponsible. 7 days is more than ample time to sort out a cache. Even if the owner was on holiday would they really like to come back and find that several people had injured themselves on used needles because some people are getting upset about 7 days being too short?? Personally I would be happy the cache was pulled so I can decide what to do about it without the need to drop everything in my life to go and fix it straight away. I can decide to clean up the area, relocate or pull it all together. Its common sense surely?? In general 7 days for some complaints maybe too short but who decides what is dangerous to one person isn't a danger to another, a set standard has to be in place surely? Again if the whole process is reversible then surely its only the reviewers that have a right to complain about their time if they see it as a waste?
  13. unnecessary waste of time for reviewer and CO How so, if the CO doesn't care about the cache there is nothing to resolve and it will stay archived, if the CO does care about it he/she is going to put time into fixing it which means the reviewer is going to have put time in anyway. Either way time is needed from someone to sort any problem out.
  14. Agree with you raver dave and the reviewers actions, not everyone reads the logs but may filter out those that need attention. If the fact the cache can be removed from archive again whats the issue?? Let the cache owner sort the problem, let the reviewer know its been resolved and away it goes again. It could have been worse like someone getting injured just because someone may get upset at a cache being archived. Atleast the owner of the cache is taking steps to sort it out or even relocate it if needs be, you could have an owner whos no longer interested in maintaining the cache at all.
  15. I am getting the caches shown on the map but it is painfully slow to show them
  16. thats ok i havent deleted anything from the SD card yet but i'll keep the map file i may need it lol
  17. A lot of keystrokes and scrolling here, but it should be very easy once you see it: Waypoints: Press Find->Waypoints->Enter->Menu->Delete->All Symbols->Enter Tracks: Starting at the Main Menu, select tracks, scroll down to Clear->Enter Routes: Starting at Main Menu, select Routes->Enter-> press Menu->Delete Routes->Enter You didn't mention, but if the unit has an SD card in it, might want to just go ahead and clear that off completely as well. Thats superb thanks for that its much appreciated. It does have an SD card and there is 2 files on it.
  18. Already read 99% of it and to be honest its not a great manual, its not obvious how to delete the data or even restore to factory settings, but will take another look I may have looked past it. Yep got the communicator plug-in installed and easy GPS recognises the GPS. On easy GPS everything under the geochaching tab is shaded out (not clickable) not sure why that is, will try again when the site main GC site is back online and see if it makes any difference. Thanks
  19. Its that simple?? Thanks for the advice thought it would be more complicated then that lol, will give it a try when the site is back up and running. Don't suppose anyone knows how to clear the GPS of all its old waypoint, tracks and routes in one go. The unit is used and is full of the last users tracks etc that are of no real use to me.
  20. Need a little bit of help as im a GPS virgin. My GPS has arrived today Garmin GPSmap 76cx (yippee) but I really don't have a clue what to do with it lol. I have figured out how to enter co-ords manually (that took about an hour) and the way i'm doing it may not be correct but entering them as a waypoint IIRC. I have downloaded the correct USB drivers for it, easy GPS and talkytoaster UK maps the top one from the Mapsets For Use With Garmin GPSrs Only list. The GPS is found and recognised by the computer and easy GPS. Whats next, not totally sure how to get what I need like the maps and geocaches from the PC to the gps unit. The gps is a Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx if that makes any difference and its only the GPS I got, no software etc, have a usb cable to link to the PC though. Any links to online guides etc would be much appreciated or any advice as i'm doing this blind. I have checked the firmware is the latest though, and that seems to be OK!!! Cheers
  21. I was so sure that was true when i first started hunting too! I must have DNF'ed about 10 caches, that were later logged by finders having no problem at all. I have been out caching with newbie friends, and I have stood there looking at a pile of 'obvious' Stick- o -flage and I'm wanting to scream: CAN'T YOU SEE THAT ... ARE YOU BLIND? Maybe those caches you seek have been moved, binned or disgarded by unknowers .... but i doubt it. I agree with that, we have only been doing it a very short time with a handful of finds. The first two we couldn't find, but went back later and found one of the 2. I couldn't find any from yesterdays little walk but my other half found all 3, I couldn't see them for looking, one being a micro that I even had my hand on. I'm looking to get a reasonable GPS as my mobile phone isn't accurate and its not helping at all. We have been using google maps etc which is fine for caches in the open but not so useful for wooded areas.
  22. Thought it was just me lol. Seems a bit mad though to remove the feature as it was quite useful. I can those that have done more caches then they can remember might end up redoing some by mistake.
