  1. You might want to get your fact straight about things before you use them as examples. The petition was against a 2500 rider cap that the State Patrol pasted as an edict without public input. The petition was to get the state patrol to sit down and talk to the public before it went into place. Since there are already people willing to talk about geocaching, I don't see a need for this tactic.
  2. My vote would be walk around alot in large area. Since the gps is only going to get them to a general area walk around to other trees and rocks within a 30 ft radius. Of couse if it a hard hind this might be accomplished by you intial search. edit: spelling
  3. I don't think this would get approved. But there are several instances of people doing travel bugs this way. I belive there is a full size yellow jeep done this way. Real Yellow Jeep Bug edit: added link
  4. The answer to this is NO. If you are going to use cachmate (which I highly recommend) you need Palm OS Version 3.0 and higher. There are only two Palms that don't meet this requirement, the first two that where made by 3com, the Original Pilot and the original Palm Pilot. So just keep that in mind when buying. Personal, I got a M500 for $40 on ebay including shipping.
  5. Okay, now I am curious! I had heard of a cacher in the midwest somewhere who broke his back while climbing an abandoned RR bridge without safety gear, but I had never heard of a Texan dying while geocaching. Can you provide more details? Thanks! Here's the article Texas Death
  6. I took a chance that it was the most recent cache Here the link :Nerve's incident Most I have done is a few somewhat major cut and scraps and a bumps on the head from standing up too fast. But hey I haven't been doing it long and there's plenty of time for that later. Don't think I would stop just because of that. In school I boke my ankle in three places, have a screw in my leg and I don't remember a major portion of the day. But it didn't stop me from running it the halls (My wife and sister are both teacher and they love to use me as example of why not to run in the halls )
  7. I don't think it has to be only geocachers. I think it can be safe to say that an event that was planned to have both events planned together would be fine. However the the issue with the OP is that he planned an event to be part of an long standing pre-planned event. 0.02
  8. Somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed.

  11. Decon kits, AKA: M258A1 Plastic Box, are kewl. About twice the volume as a cigarette pack. They are also very water resistent. edited: bad link
  12. I read these two and could stop laughing. I had to go take a walk to stop. Ever feel like your security has turned on you.
  13. So if you use a Paypal account to pay for your Premium Membership you have to have a Credit card? Um, I just did this and It was taken out of my checking account. I didn't think the reciever of a paypal payment could tell what was used, that kind of the reason for paypal. Am I missing something?
  14. I didn't think that Paypal required a credit card. I am pretty sure that you can setup a Paypal account based on a checking account.
  15. He was referring to the yellow eTrex. Yes I was referring to the Yellow Etrex, not the legend. Would have edited the earlier post for clarity but for some reason I can't edit my own post in this thread.
  16. I thought this was already thought of. I believe that the bookmarks work the same was as the TB. After 2-3 ther is just a link to the other.
  17. If you think Power Bars are bad, try them when they are frozen. Took a couple skiing, normally I take granola bars, Got late in tha day and was hungry. I spent an hour sucking on that stupid thing, and I am here to tell ya a power bar is nothing like a popcicle. edit: have to learn to spell someday.
  18. Ok, So I am really confused Your agruement is that the by requiring a sign in Jeremy has gone against the plegde he made to keep geochaching free and non-comercial. right? What makes signing in "commercial? (Since I assume it's not about the free thing)
  19. I am going with mini cacher. If you are trading the actual CD and not the copy then it's legal, but otherwise it's not. There is a similar cache around here that does it with Computer Program (although it asks for worthless programs) GCHFX9 However, I don't agree with mini cachers assesment that the music industry won't give it problems. It might be a small problem, but that hasn't stop them before. I would just stick with legal CDs
  20. I was setting up three PQ last night and by the time I got to the third one the other two had run. By the time I got my email open all three had been sent. If you are not getting them right away, you have done something wrong.
  21. you can download waypoints, you can't download maps into it
  22. Actually it is a triangle (at least the default is, not sure if you can change the symbol of you or not) and yes it will move with you.
  23. Cachemate is a program for Palm pilots that allows you take the cache webpage with you, including description, hints and past logs and some other cool feature such as search for nearest caches. Gsak is basically the same as easygps with a lot more features. GSAK stands for "Geocaching Swiss army knife" so a good comparison is that Easygps is a regular pocket knife.
  24. My sugestion is the Garmin Etrex, the yellow one. It's as basic a you can get. And probably the least expensive. As for getting started this weekend, all you would need to know is how to type in a waypoint. Simple on any of the Etrex series, only one or two steps. Happy Caching
  25. I beleive it depends on how you paid. If you paid by paypal it's instantaneous. If you paid by credit card then, I think it's like 24 hours, because someone has to review it or something. edited: ever just have one of those days you just never quite read things correctly??
