  1. the thought that it might be a trade item crossed my mind, but why leave your sd card, and caches and whatnot all saved in it? And why not include its connector cable? Oh, I agree. It doesn't seem like the one you found was intended for trade. If so, it was a poorly executed trade. One would think the cable would be included, as well as a note explaining that it was a trade item. at the moment I don't know what else you can do, other than wait to hear back from the various cachers you contacted & keep an eye on the forums. I was just mentioning that it wasn't unheard of for them to be trade items. & then of course wondering how someone would trade up or even for it..I was in no way implying that it was an item you should have traded for, I'm sorry if I came across that way. Your intentions are obviously good, & I don't mean to put you in a bad light in any way.
  2. Are they premium members? I'm not sure, but no one has answered you yet, & the only reason I can think of would be that they are "basic" members & not "premium". Premium members have more options & "perks", you might say. If that's not the case, someone who is more experienced will probably come along soon & let you know.
  3. That is a really nice coin. You can tell how much effort, planning, & love was invested in it. You have every right to be proud. One day we will have our own made, & when that day comes yours will surely be remembered as inspiration. We hope to trade with you when that happens. Here is the quote we've chosen: "To bring up a child in the way he should go, travel that way yourself once in a while." ~Josh Billings
  4. That could be GATOULIS or Eartha, depending on whether or not you include the original post...GATOULIS with the original, Eartha without.
  5. I've read cache pages where the CO will put a GPSr that they no longer use in a cache as swag. But in those cases it's because they've upgraded to a better one, & in this case it seems that the OP is talking about a really nice one. How would you trade for that? Trading up or even with what you brought in your cache bag would be difficult, unless you came prepared after you priced out that particular GPSr..
  6. Most cache owners appreciate it if you include it, along with a story about anything interesting that happened, in your online log. Also, if the log book in the cache is a big one you can include it there. I usually write it out as T: (whatever we took) L: (whatever we left) & then include the story if there was one, & thank them for the cache, but your style is completely up to you.
  7. With the Trimble app you can "Enter Manually"(in the first menu after "find a cache") but you have to hover over the numbers with the "mouse" & change the option from "DD" to "DMM" because most coords come in "degrees & minutes" form..then you have to again "hover" over the numbers to change each one. I'm not sure if that's helpful because that might not even be how it's set up on your phone. Then again, it could be. Also, I'm not great at explaining that part. It's kind of like the difference of knowing how to drive somewhere yet being unable to give someone directions there. I could show you, I'm bad at telling you. I hope I helped a little, though.
  8. If you get them on you, you can also paint them with some clear fingernail polish. Leave it on there for a while, then wipe with fingernail polish remover. Not recommended if you develop a rash from them, though. Welcome to the game you're a quick learner. It took us longer than that to learn of travel bugs & what to do. & the micros! Don't get too discouraged by them. If you can't find it, move on without having your heart set on it. You'll gain more experience & then find it the next time. Those would discourage the crud out of me when we first started earlier this year..not necessarily the pill bottles but the nanos & bison tubes. Make sure you don't *only* look down, they are sometimes hidden at eye level or above. Don't be afraid to mess with things as long as you don't break anything & return things as they were. You have to kind of revert back to childhood & try to open and move everything you see..
  9. I'm allergic to fire ants, so I have to be really careful. Much the same as someone who is allergic to bees..except bees don't WANT to sting you, they just will if they feel they have to. I don't get upset at anything in this game, except when somebody puts candy in a cache. Then I get irate. Especially if it's a park & grab. Then, they're not only on me (a public strip down has been known to happen) but also in my car. My husband & I have to find every last one crawling through the car & kill it before we can go anywhere. That's what you call hopping mad! The thing with fire ants is they'll all get on you, & then they'll all bite at once. There won't be a warning bite from the first one that makes contact unless you have accidentally squished him between two fingers, behind a knee, in an elbow crease, or the like..
  10. It's usually not an issue as long as it's safe for a child to handle. The key chain I placed in a cache had somewhat of a dirty joke on it. I wouldn't want my kid to pick it up..even though the joke was vague enough for amall children not to understand. I should have thought about that before placing it. Just something I learned along the way.
  11. Isn't it ok to write the reviewer a note asking them to hold publication until a certain day? If I'm wrong, please correct me. But if you write the note & pick a day, they may be busy that day & ask you to choose another.
  12. GC1E3YD "Let's cache at the big gun" by Ozzguff. The "things were said" comment was meant in jest also, I have a tendency of being long-winded... Often. Almost always. Ok..always.
  13. "The Big Gun" in Canton, North Carolina. Holy canolis.. That was hard. Many of Ozzguff's are hard, & we love a challenge, but that one was brutal. A nano hidden on a huge gun set up in the middle of the sidewalk. (AND if you don't hunt it at night you'll get stung by wasps! Somebody got stung in the forehead.) It took us quite some time to find that one. We hunted at night, & I ended up with a nice sized rash from whatever insect bit me (apparently multiple times) while crawling around that thing feeling in all the dark hidey holes. Which reminds me, I forgot to "favorite" that one. The evil ones are always our favorites I'm going to go look for the GC code. I'm traveling & on mobile, or I'd post a pic of the gun.(A non-spoiler, of course) We are lucky to have Ozzguff in our area.
  14. Visit your local hardware store. We were like kids in a candy store, there! It's all about imagination. You can make some really devious hard finds, or just really cute or funny ones. Visit a toy store for the cute & funny ones. We have a Mr. Potato Head we are currently working on sealing so it will be waterproof, which we will be putting out in a child friendly area. Some of it involves tools & some mechanic work. Fun for us, but might not be fun for you.. It depends on your preferences. As long as you continue putting out hides you can be proud of, & don't feel the need to get in a hurry & overwhelm yourself, it will stay fun for you. Like us, we only have 2 hides out there right now. But we have 10 ready to go (I just want to order some things for them so the cachers will have some really cool swag to trade for) & 4 more we are currently working on. We take our time so we can make sure it doesn't turn into work. & when the community does get these caches from us, it will be worth the wait & the hunt! So, really, it's up to you & what you find fun. Just don't let it overwhelm ya or tap out your budget.
  15. I was nervous at first too, about what I should & should not leave. I even left a couple of things that I thought about later & was embarrassed that I did. (Bubbles, which freeze, & a key chain that wasn't necessarily child friendly) but I just hope that the cachers who find them (or have found them) take them with a grain of salt. (& get them out of those caches! )I was a newbie with good intentions, & I won't be doing it again. It's a learning experience. You just have to get out there & learn it hands-on. The forums have helped us out a good deal as well, so you're smart to start here. Good luck, & happy caching! *edited to add* we still very much consider ourselves noobs.
  16. This game is so versatile. Some people dislike trackables & never mess with them. Some people like them, but only like moving them along. & some love them & make them a big part of the game for themselves. Just like to some people the game is all about the number of finds, or hides. & some just like to go out finding them leisurely, & put out hides that they work really hard on, but their numbers aren't high. Some people go to events, some would never. That's why I love this game. What you get involved in is completely up to you. So, maybe include the statistics with the cache, but don't put them directly on the cache page? Maybe provide a link where you can be directed to the "TB statistic page". Just a suggestion to go along with an idea.
  17. I agree. His intentions were good, and he just didn't know. He moved it on when he could. No worries, OP.
  18. you earned those geostripes! I don't mind them as long as I don't find stinging nettles... Then you have a burning, itching sensation, & Preperation H can't help you! ...Did I just say that??
  19. No harm, no foul. & now we know who we're sending it to i'm going to peruse your profile for a bit- just a heads up on that. We look forward to sending it down the line to you when our turn rolls around!
  20. You went to a flash mob event? We also went to one on Saturday, we had so much fun. 15 minutes goes by quick! <--frozen
  21. We were really happy to have found that little hidden bit of geocaching. We thought that it was pretty cool to be able to collect such a nice sig item from different cachers. It just kind of stinks when you find your first one & go to log it in as a trackable because you don't know what it is, because there's no info on this site about them. Then you meander on in to the forums thinking, "I'm a newbie, & they are so helpful with 'noobs' there. They can help me out.." ...Then you get the forum equivalent of a cold shoulder. Unless, of course, you're lucky enough to have a couple kind souls get in before the lockdown & tell you at least where to find out about them, & to warn you about the geoslap coming your way... This happened to us about a month ago. You are not alone. Or maybe you are...because this thread's still alive lol
  22. Hmm... So we may just have Write Shop Robert sign up below us after all! we will see, plenty of time to find out.
  23. If you are referring to my post, I didn't judge anybody. I said that I was bothered by the concept. I may have been getting too defensive on the poster's behalf. Unfortunately, parents are all too often judged for things that are extremely minor.. Maybe it rubs me the wrong way & I get all irritable over it. *le sigh* angst.. I could have read too much into your comment, & for that I apologize.
  24. Yes, he is paying his kids a quarter a micro. (Or was it multi? ..no..wait..micro. ) He stated that as a fact. Just because he stated this does not mean someone has the right to judge the action. Back on topic: Other things you can do to get your kids excited about micros that you can try as well... Anytime I tell my teenage stepson that I had trouble finding one, he's all over it trying to find it before I do. He likes that "Ha ha!" moment. He likes the Ozzguff ones, because they ARE challenging, & he wants to see if he can find it before we do. We also do a spin-off & take turns with who gets to look for one, & the person with the least DNF's wins. (Although I do "cheat" for him & help him out a lot- so his dad usually ends up losing haha) But, then again, he's more of a "victory dance winner & good sport loser" than a " scream 'IN YO' FACE!' winner & kick-you-in-the-leg loser"... But only you know how competitive your kids are or can be, & whether this idea will work or not. And before anybody jumps on me about what it teaches your kid: sportsmanship. Sorry to those who like the fact that every kid on the team at school gets a trophy now.
  25. So, if nobody signs up after you (by the time you receive the box) you ship it back to Write Shop Robert with an unactivated coin & other gifts for him, yes? (& his original activated coin, of course)
