  1. My wife and I go out together with the kids. I have to admit that once I get us to the location, she can usually spot the cache before me! For us it is a team play - but I definately do not see why you could not cache alone. Of course it would be couteous to tell him where you will be. (Which is no more than I would expect out of anybody wandering off in the woods - tell somebody where you are going)
  2. Funny - I am actually still looking for a vest that has lots and lots of pockets. I hate carrying bags around - but wish I could carry more. Cargo pants help, but a vest with lots and lots of pockets - that would be nice. If it had a *small* logo on it I would more than likely purchase it. ThoughtToSelf I wonder if anybody will change the product line based upon the wishes made by potential customers? ThoughtToSelf
  3. Has anybody tried the compasses sold on the geocaching web site? They are only a couple of dollars and would be useful in an emergency. Army lensatic are the best though - in my opinion.
  4. This would be a funny story if it weren't true. Heck it's still a funny story.
  5. And some don't. The quality of my GC finds went up astronomically, in my opinion, when I started excluding micros on my pocket queries for unfound caches. I fixed it for you. Unfix it, please. That is not what I said, that is not what I meant. It was a straightforward statement of fact; please don't change my posts like that. That's funny - the quality of my finds didn't go up astronomically when you started excluding micros.... At the same time - nobody should edit what others are saying and call it a quote. That is poor behavior.
  6. You know, some people just don't want to play that part of the game. If you were to force sombody to hide something it would more than likely be something that would not ever want to go find anyway. If you know somebody and want to encourage them personally go for it, just expect to help them a lot. 10:1 is extremely excessive. I have 3 active caches and find that with my other life commitments, keeping up with them is about all I can handle.
  7. Unless you have taken 4 children, all under the age of 6, pushing a stroller, in the dark, through the dense trees and your flashlight gives out and you realize that you have no spare batteries other then what is in the gps that you need to get back to the car. Has anybody ever navigated with the use of a gps backlight and the flashy leds of childrens shoes? Now that is an adventure. And yes, the cache was found and the log signed by the light of blinking led's. (I now carry one of the flashlights that you just spin a handle to power it.)
  8. Bag - what bag? If it doesn't fit in your pocket, don't bring it.
  9. I liked virtual and locationless as well and found them to be enjoyable on a different level then the basic box in the weeds by the dumpster. I tried Waymarking - I really did. I even added a waymark. I cannot explain why, but Waymarking bored me enough that I didn't even want to do regular caches for awhile. Apparently they are not going to come back, so we all might as well "get over it", maybe write a little memorial - "Ode to Virtuals", and get on with our lives. Well, back to caching!
  10. And happily show off the ammo cans and such filled with McToys.
  11. I don't think it is. At least not to any great extent.
  12. Why would you feel guilt? You aren't doing anything wrong.
  13. The smilie - can't spend it, can't trade it, doesn't do anything really. The search - good workout - physical and mental, have fun I guess I do not understand the hang up on getting more than 1 smilie. Did you have fun? If not, it doesn't matter how many smilie things the computer puts out. Did you not have fun? Once again it's not going to matter. If you have the need for lots of smilies - here you go: It would seem that a new feature could be useful to solve the whole problem. How about a numeric feedback that the finder can select on a scale of 1-10 how much fun and so forth that they had. Numerical peer feedback would give you another tool to help you determine whether any cache - multi or not - was worth it. The software would of course have to aggregate the numbers so that a quick glance would let you know how others felt.
  14. I haven't yet had the opportunity to cache at any great distances. However I have learned of many interesting areas locally that I had no idea even existed - so it has been great. So much for the "there is nothing to do" around here mantra.
  15. I love mutli's. I have done everyone I can get to/solve. chant (More multi! - More multi!) I have more traditional finds, but only because there are so few multi-caches.
  16. Like I said, I found the statement confusing. It was a question that I felt I needed cleared up in my own mind. Back to the original post, I do think that if the request to search is resonable, why not do it and get it over with. I do know that if you cross the border between US/Canada your vehicle will probably be searched when coming in to the US. At least mine always is. This seems reasonable since you have been out of the country doing who knows what. I could apply that logic to areas along the border as well.
  17. Speeding tickets aren't personal either...I've had a few - all of them on my way to gaurd drill. I have noted one confusing statement: According to RobRee you can only refuse a search if there are witnessess. What does this mean exactly? If I were of a paranoid nature I would surmise that as long as there is nobody around to back up your story the officer is going to lie through his teeth just because he can. I am fairly certain this isn't true.....
  18. "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." - Benjamin Franklin
  19. Fear. People let their rights be trampled due to fear. Please don't want their rights trampled due to fear of another sort. Both groups are ultimately motivated by fear. I know I fear loseing rights. I also fear that somebody will slip through the cracks because of this fear and cause more devastation. As a nation we suffer from "loss of innocence" syndrome. No matter how much we don't like it, the terrorist of the world has acheived some impact on our lives. As such we all need to understand that we need to change with it - and find a way to do so without giving up that which we have fought to attain. No - I don't know what that answer would be but it lies somewhere between sheep-like obedience and hostility towards law enforcement. Rather situation dependent.....
  20. My all time favorite find so far was a micro that I saw, discarded as the cache and spent the next 20-30 minutes searching every possibility only to finally re-examine the object in question and realized that the end came off and viola - another new cacher was addicted. THis was about my 5th or 6th find and first micro. I've had some fun ones since then, but nothing has topped that first micro. (And I've now hidden 2 traditional and 2 micros.) I say, more *clever* micros!
  21. I did a multi that had me driving all over a town. I happened to know the facts of one stage so I was able to use the information that I already knew to solve the puzzle and skip a stage. I hardly consider that cheating - it would have been a waste of my time to revisit an area to pretend to find info that I already knew.... (It was the death date of a famous person)
