So let me get this right… I am a bit offended. If I see a thread asking a question that has been asked before, or discussion referring to a subject that has already been covered, then I should have it shut down? I can’t post a poem or something unless I am certain it hasn’t been posted here before? I mean where is the harm? Why do you care how many times I post or rewrite something? Is there some sort of limit, or is this plane old censorship?
Don't get offended about having a thread in an internet forum locked. There are plenty of far more worthwhile causes in the world that are worthy of your offense ;-)
As a forum reader, I'd rather have an old thread bumped than have to slog through a gazillion new threads of the same material.

I second that. It is better to go through and just read any new material and ideas then to read the same ones over and over.
And if you are new to a thread is it not still Internet courtesy to lurk for at least a little while and search the old posts to see if your question has already been answered? I know that was true in the ancient days of the BBS, I kind of assumed it still applied today.

It doesn't take much of a laptop for geocaching. I use a 133 Pentium made in the late 90's. no-name that I have soldered back together so many times it resembles some freakish monster. (Not to mention the missing keys and the monitor)
I got it for free, but even if you can't find one of those you can get them super cheap. (Geocaching is hard on laptops so don't waste allot of money)

One reason not to make it a multi is that most cachers, myself included will skip over a multi-cache. Multi-caches take alot more time to complete than do Traditional caches and still only count as ONE find. Cachers traveling through an area will simply skip over a multi-cache because fo the time involved. Plus, making a Power Trail (treasure trail) would bring up the cache count in an area and potentially bring more cachers to the area.
Apparently I am not "Most Cachers". I prefer the multi-cache to the traditional. Having found and DNF'd a few of yours I know it will be fun whichever way you go, but you might want to seriously consider a multi or a series of multi's.

That sounds great. Send the dog into an overgrown thicket - it flushes out the birds, and I am actually there to get them in the place it decides to come out. (Typically not the place I expected)

It is a great opportunity to explore your own neighborhood and see areas that you did not know existed. It is a great family experience with chance and opportunity around every corner.
It enables us to get out and walk around instead of mindlessly sitting and watching endless hours of tv where people hunt for houses or kill each other.

The worse thing we have ever found was a soggy cache with sprouting seeds.
My kids are all little so I open the caches, but I can definitely foresee a time when they will open them up first. Education is the only way to teach the kids what to do with certain objects and what to do with certain circumstances.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me.
Be safe - but keep it up and enjoy the adventure --- you might find that you are having such a good time that you forget to find the cache. I have been guilty of that one.

Make the first to do something the goal of the travel bug. That way it will always try to do things first.
You can make any request you want of your fellow cachers (within reason and decency), but be happy if they sign the log book, trade fairly and don't lose your bug.

Instead of being around leaving plastic boxes in some weird places, this seams quite more insteresting and usefull.
Are you suggesting we would do this instead of geocaching?
Waymarking is a spin-off from geocaching. Owned and operated by the same great staff and everything.

My personal experience tells me there could be some truth in that article. I'm a geocaching volunteer for the Cleveland Metroparks. One of the caches I monitor was placed in a large hollow log. Now that large hollow log is a smashed up pile of wood. The cache is now hidden under some bark and remaining pieces of the log. This is the second cache in 3 years that had the hiding spot meet the same fate.
I've also seen other areas get worked over fairly well by geocachers. It's very frustrating. I'm convinced most geocachers are good land stewarts but there is a large enough segment of the caching population that doesn't seem to care that makes us all look bad.
I had a hollow log in my yard once. I hardly ever looked at it. After about 3 years it was a pile of hollow log rubble. These things happen - especially in wet climates.

4 kids, 5,3,2 yrs & 6 mos.
You of course must choose caches with terrains below 2.5. Generally it is a "walk" until we get to the actual site where the "treasure hunt" begins. It is also wise to carry some swag in a cache container in your bag for them to trade from when the cache swag is not up to your standard. That way the kids always find something, and you are happy with what they find. We started doing this after a few cache containers were full of junk. This also works for DNF's when the kids are getting cranky.
I have carried the smaller kids through miles of tall weeds and cattails as well. Above all, remember to have fun. The point of caching with small children is to have a fun experience with them. The cache is definately secondary.

Could be a denial of service attack. There has been some angst lately. We had one here about a year ago that took the T1 to it's proverbial knees. The attacker could have "zombie" PC's logging in and attempting to bottleneck services.
A quick analysis of the logs should show what the guests are doing and a simple rule in the firewall should block them if it is determined to be bad traffic.
Edit to Add: Or it could be that everybody has been possessed by Gozar(sp?) to be the keymaster and are flocking to the forums to find the gatekeeper.

I don't know for certain but I'll bet that for a small sum - say around $500,000 you can be the ULTIMATE MEMBER. I think that's what they are going for....

That does remind me though. I really should go out and find the cache I adopted last summer. According to the found logs it is still there and in good shape, but I should probably have a clue as to where it is.
