Personally, I wish i could get a killfile for him. Sorry Seneca, but I'm not looking for comic relief, even if I did find his posts entertaining. My complaint is that I've never read anything from him that actually contributes to the Groundspeak forums. MajBach You can't have everything, where would you put it?
  2. quote:Originally posted by leatherman: What ever you do, do not buy the Global map100 for GeoCaching. It does not support WAAS. The reception under light cover is very poor. The Magellan units will continue reading even if you drop down to just two sattilites. The global map100 just beeps and starts blinking. In spite of the risk of sounding like someone with hurt feelings, I want to comment on what you just wrote. The 'debate' on which gps is 'best' has been around since they first appeared on the market and will never go away. Asking a question like 'what is the best gps?' is like asking 'what is the best car?' But as far as the GM100 goes, I couldn't disagree with you more. I own a GM100. I have also owned an ETrex, an Emap a 440ColorTrak and an M320. Without a doubt, the GM100 provides the best reception. As I sit here in my house, 5 feet from the nearest window and with an entire story above me, it has a lock on 3 sats. I like my GM100 for its versatility, programbilty and variety of functions. It also is one of the better units for marine and aviation use ( I have two boats and am a pilot). It certainly isn't the most compact unit and it eats batteries like whale eats plankton. But the price certainly was right. And BTW, I've dropped mine in 5 feet of water and never had any problems. The Magellans I've owned were absolutely terrible for reception; especially the ColorTrak. The 315/320 are nicely designed, lightweight and superbly battery efficient - great for a newbie - not to mention watertight and buoyant. On the other hand, is is in an entirely different class of GPS from the GM100. The new Meridian looks very tempting, although I haven't had the chance to actually use one. The customer support from Magellan however is enough to keep me from ever purchasing another. As much as i liked the Garmins, I do not like the restrictions they have on maps - i.e hardware vs. software. AS far as WAAS is concerned, I don't see what all the hype is about. It's not even available where I live ( as it might not be for the poster of the thread), but it wouldn't even be a selling point for me. Even by theory alone, the accuracy on a non WAAS GPS is only what, 15' or 30'? But isn't that the maximum? I consitently hunt caches where my unit reads 1 meterfrom the cache and actually is. Same with submerged rocks on my marine charts. Non WAAS is plenty accurate for me. MajBach You can't have everything, where would you put it?
  3. I've changed the first map so it shows only the volunteers and added a second map that shows caches containing squares. It has a less cluttered appearance I feel. The links for small scale city maps have also been updated if there are now caches containing sqaures for those areas. These links also display non quilt caches (blue). Caches containing squares are red with the corresponding GC number for quick searches. Does anyone read these? It's been such a bummer weekend. To cold to even plant my garden, let alone go for a boat ride. MajBach You can't have everything, where would you put it?

Watching the satellite acquisition screen I saw that it would find one, drop it, find another, and so on. Anyone else run into something like this? This has happened to me plenty of times. Usually, the explaination can be found here or here. MajBach You can't have everything, where would you put it?

Whoaa! Never thought of it before. You're bad. I like it. I bought my GPS for navigating while flying and boating. Sixteen years of boating, never hit one rock. Since I've owned the GPS, I've steered clear of every single rock in the world except four - thank you very much. Oh, and it's also good to block the wheels of the trailer when launching. Looks like you already realize that the caches are on the maps on the volunteer map page. Several have come in since my last update, but up until 10 minutes ago, I have been in New York. Hopefully I'll have them all updated for you all by early tomorrow. Can you believe the leafs won tonight?! MajBach You can't have everything, where would you put it?

Nah. As much fun as it is to give you a ribbing halfway through the series, I'm not the type to rub it in when it's all over (I just pretend to in my head - heh heh). It was a good series. 13. quote:Originally posted by malak: Too bad you think that, though I see your points. I guess I should clarify that. I like urban caches that are 'Urban'. Ones at a bus stop, or statue or something. Ones that you don't need to change your clothes to go on. I was just feel that if I want to go for a hike someplace scenic, I prefer to do it outside of a city, not in a city park littered with garbage and people on their way home from work. 14. quote:They played a good disciplined game.....Kudos and best of luck to the White and Blue Cheers, cliffy %$#$%^%$#!!!!!!!!! (lol) Although not a finatical hockey fan, I do follow the Leafs through the playoffs - and I'm usually pessimistic going in. They've let me down so many times. Tonight was an excellent game however, every leaf was playing like they were prepared to go home in a body-bag. The officiating was entirely different too from previous games. I don't think Ottawa should have rec'd the penalty for interfering with CuJo tonight nor for putting Dolme into the boards the other night - but it doesn't appear to have made a difference. I was most impressed however with the sportsmenship when they were shaking hand. It really shows there is still some 'sport' left in the 'business'. I'm sure Ottawa is cheering for the Leafs 100% now too. MajBach You can't have everything, where would you put it?

  19. I'm not a big fan of urban caches that try to bring the hike into the city; you usually find yourself in the middle of other peoples' refuse. Even caches in city parks are 'wanna be' caches in my opinion. They alomst seem like a lazy attempt to place a 'scenic' cache. On the other hand, urban caches in the heart of popular or high traffic areas are caches all on their own. To stay hidden, they usually have to be small and of particular design. The geocacher also has the challenge of appearing nonchalant when hunting them. As has been mentioned, J.A.R.S. has come up with some pretty neat ideas for such cahces. I.E., old couch medicine tins with a magnet stuck to man-made structures. these types of urban caches you look for on your lunch break! MajBach You can't have everything, where would you put it?

  21. I've removed all of the city maps (to save some bandwidth) and replaced them with links. If I've left anyone out or made any errors, be sure to let me know. Keep the e-mail comin' so I can mark the loactions of caches containing squares. Now if the weather would only improve here, I could get out myself and place some!
