  1. I just upgraded my GPSMAP 60CSx to a GPSMAP 64st. It didn't take me much googling to figure out how to delete the default geocaches and after a couple minutes I figured out how to send a GPX from GSAK to load all the caches in my area. Great to not be limited to just a 1000 points anymore BTW! The small frustration I have is that not all the caches in the GPX file are showing up on the map. 100% of the caches I sent to the GPS from GSAK show up in the list of caches under the "Geocaches" feature but only about 90-95% of those show up on the map. If I select a geocache that is in the list but not on the map it populates with the usual line from me to the destination cache but the cache disappears again as soon as I stop navigation. I went into the "Advanced Map Setup" menu and changed the zoom level for geocaches from AUTO to 2mi (and tried a couple other settings) but the caches still don't show up, even when I zoom down to sub 1000 foot levels. I am a very visual person and a list of caches doesn't do me nearly as much good as a pictorial representation of nearby caches in relation to my position. Has anyone else either experienced this or have any ideas I sould try?
  2. I wish I had a picture of it, but the best one I found was a light bulb. The base of it screwed off and the log was inside. It had to have taken at least 5 long searches before I realized I kept walking right by it as I inspected all the other hiding areas in the vicinity. A couple close seconds are a cache that used a rope over a branch to pull it up into the foliage and the TB lodge that Dew Crew posted a pic of.
  3. Just slipped into the 21-30! More of you old geezers then I thought...
  4. I know theLegend Hcx has a micro SD slot and I am thinking about buying one. If I do get one I would like to get a micro card to do with it but I don't want to buy one that is incompatible. Does anyone know if there is a max size for the micro card? I found a good deal on an 8GB but everyone is talking about putting a 2GB card in it. Also, how much memory do I need to put a LOT of maps on it. Would a 2GB be so much I could never fill it or is there the potential that I could use up an entire 8GB?
  5. We have a cache that got a needs maintenance post from an attempted finder. We posted our own maintenance performed log and that didn't get rid of it. The needs maintenance symbol isn't listed in the attributes menu so we can't just unselect it. What do we do?
  6. Sorry about not getting back to this discussion... but I work two jobs and life has been a bit hectic the past couple of days... anywho.. I am currently using a Lowrance iWay 100... Not for caching however; I only use it to navigate to and from destinations. I used to have a Magellan Meridian Gold - which I terribly miss - until my caching buddy absent-mindedly left it on the roof of my car.. (oops...) For caching I share my buddy's Etrex Legend. The type of software I was concerned about the most was waypoint software, like GSAK. But, I was hoping that I would be able to find a program like Maptech with topo maps for any given area. Also, if anybody has any hints as to compiling and installing the software on http://geo.rkkda.com/ it would be greatly appreciated. I've tried to compile and install programs many times in UBUNTU but with no success. I generally use the sudo apt-get install command. That doesn't help though when the program you want is not in any of your software repositories. Thanks.
  7. Hi, I just switched over to Linux from Windows XP and was wondering if there are any Linux users out there who could point me in the direction that I must go in order to obtain some handy Mapping/waypoint software for Ubuntu. I've already got Google Earth installed, and it works great. I also have Wine installed, but I have not attempted running any windows software with it yet. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Chad F. of K&F Enterprises
