  1. Tiger is pretty reputable though I preordered mine for $819-$20 Preorder discount = $799 at http://www.getfeetwet.com/ProductInfo.aspx...id=010-00408-02 Shipping is $10 and they also offer free 2nd year of warranty. I called this store and the person I talked to said Garmin's ship date for this unit is "week of August 15th." The store seems reputable they even include links to their reviews at their help page http://www.getfeetwet.com/help.aspx (bottom) One caveat to note they are based in Simi Valley CA so you'll likely be taxed. Tigergps is based in NY so no tax from them. Google maps hows Simi Valley CA not too far from LA so maybe you can just drive there at pick it up? For this investment I'll likely get the 3 year extended warranty sold here http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=MKGPSGR1000 for $49. Which according the the extended warranty company's website http://www.mackcam.com/faq/faq04.html can be bought separate from the shop you purchased your GPS unit.
  2. You have to buy an addon and it's available only in certain cities. Check out http://www.tigergps.com/garmingtm10.html for more information
  3. Dream machine would be a 2710 like the 2610 with CF card compatibility. I ordered the 2720 which should be shipping this week to compliment my eXplorist 600. Need to be as safe as I can on the road. Just wrote a GSAK script to ouput to Cachemate, MapSource, and eXplorist in one shot
  4. Make sure you clicked "continue" when window said "driver not varifiable." Also you need to put explorist in File mode which is enabled automatically when you connect the USB cable then turn explorist on.
  5. You can show 4300 geocaches at the same time on map on the eXplorist?! And is it POIs or geocache mode you are using?
  6. ......i bet someone can write a macro in GSAK to automate this ...
  7. Cachemate is for Palm only M5 is pocketPC: from the CacheMate website: "There is currently no port of CacheMate for Pocket PC. If you want something for that platform that is comparable, though, try ."GPXsonar" Mobipocket is a generic ebook reader (think Acrobat reader) I think there's a way to turn gpx into Mobipocket data. CacheMate/gpxsonar are specific geocaching applications and not just generic reader.
  8. "Measuring 6.4 x 2.9 x 1.3 inches" This thing is like a brick compared to the explorist 4/5/600. However if they build in a better geocache manager (i.e., editable geocache spots with more than 50 character of information displayed) this thing might be able to replace a separate PDA to do paperless geocacing. My dream handheld right now is a ruggedsized iQue M5 that doesn't crash often. That thing does everything I want but is too fragile and unstable.
  9. I got 2 batteries and the T730 verizon CDMA phone on Ebay. My regular phone is GSM I figure T730 would be great for an emergency phone since CDMA has better coverage.
  10. Same here shipped today to be delivered in 2 days! Can't wait. Already ordered the bike mount + RAM windowshild mount + car power adapter + gilsson case
  11. To those who have drove around with the Explorist 500/600 with directroute. How visible are the turning instructions on the screen driving during day time? Any problems with safely reading the screen? How about with sunglass on? Thanks. -HoxBox
  12. I did some research into these. M5 has a faster processor and bluetooth. However to protect these you'll need something like Otterbox 3600. Which is one pound at 8.5'x5.25'x2.4' before adding the PDA. If Garmin made a ruggized version of these I'd be all over it.
  13. "Q: What is the largest SD card I can use with my eXplorist 400, 500 and 600? A: SD cards up to 2GB have been successfully tested with the eXplorist 400, 500 and 600. Although larger cards have not gone through testing, any size SD card should work." From: http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/prod...q_eXplorist.asp Just ordered one from Newegg we'll see how it goes
