  1. Oh my god - I can't believe I wrote finance! Vida's laughing her head off at the moment. Vida is definately not my finance - she's my fiance!
  2. Hej, I'm a New Zealand Geocacher and I'll be spending the next few months in Sweden on buisiness. I'm living to the North of Stockholm in a sleepy town called Brottby with my finance Vida. We have a car for transport. Are there any great Swedish geocaches that you recommend I visit while I'm staying in your country? I'd love to hear what you recommend. Tack Tim & Vida (Nandor)
  3. Thanks right folks - there's more maps. Wellington, Northland, Nelson and West Coast are now in, as well as a full NZ index page. www.nzcaches.tk Enjoy
  4. Thanks pater47, I've linked up with "Penny & Chaos" (Sounds like they're going to that gathering too) and they're going to see what they can do for me on Sunday. Thanks for your help - I can't wait to see the pictures they take ... Tim
  5. Hi guys, I'm Tim from New Zealand. I'm trying to complete the Where's in a name geocache and I'm looking for a hand from someone in your area. I've translated my username, "nandor" to be N 31 31.67x where x may be 0 - 9. So both myself and my American helper may claim the cache, I need one of you guys to go to Northing 31 31.67x and take a photo of the GPS and a couple others of the surrounding landscape, then we post these to the cache master and claim the cache for ourselves! Sounds tricky? Maybe - I don't specifically know what the terrain's like at N 31 31.67x in the USA! If you'd like to help me out - please contact me on this message thread or through geocaching.com Cheers Tim (nandor) we just need to provide a few photos of
  6. I've pulled the top part of the South Island from the North Island map - now the statistics tell a story! 155 Caches in the North Island 145 is the South - bugger. We're slipping behind!
  7. That should read nzcaches.tk (With an 's')
  8. Someone powered down my computer at work on Dec 22, 2002! Bugger. Whoa! The North Island's got measels ...
  9. Now that is funny! But on a more serious note; if you find a crop in the bush somewhere, it's best to immediately turn around and go back the way you came - a lot of crops have traps around them and owners may get violent if they see you interfering with their stuff. It would be sad to see a geocacher injured 'cause he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. If you do want to do something about it, it's best you report it to the police. I personally don't have anything to do with that sort of thing, but growing up and tramping on the West Coast, you learn a few things about how to keep safe!!
  10. quote:Originally posted by Steve & Ruth:Is there any way to add a feature that will show what caches travel bugs are in (without going through each lot of cache pages) What I was thinking- the older caches have blue dots, the new ones have red dots, well is it possible that when a travel bug is placed in a cache the cache as seen on nandors cool site would be shown as a different colour ie yellow. Its just an idea, I have no idea at all on computer programming so it may not even be possible to do Food for thought anyway Hi guys - great idea - would be rather handy to know where the travel bugs are. Just off the top of my head, I can't think of any "Geocaching.com-friendly" way of getting that information out. The webmaster of geocaching.com doesn't like automated apps crawling through the site looking for little bits of information changing 'cause it costs him too much $$$ in wasted traffic. The way my app works at the moment is very friendly, because it appends caches to a database kept on my computer. Perhaps, if anyone could find one page at geocaching.com which displayed all the New Zealand travel bugs then that could be a go ... Thanks for the suggestion!
  11. Yep - something's happened at work and it looks like the updates have stopped coming through! Bugger. I'm on the West Coast at the moment and there's not a lot I can do from here ... I'll be up in Nelson next week (Plan to nab some more geocaches) and back in ChCh the week after. I'll sort the problem out as soon as I get back - sorry people!
  12. Hi people - I've been rather busy recently (With non-geocaching stuff ) but I have managed to switch on a rather handy function with the nzcaches.tk site - you can now download all the NZ geocaches in EasyGPS .loc or OziExplorer .wpt format. I've even implemented a cool little function which manages to squeeze the geocache names down to 6 characters - you'll notice it does a better with some caches than with others! It is my endeavour to split these data files into areas - maybe just South Island and North Island, but time is very scarse at the moment ... Ahhh - features, everyone want features! Don't worry, I'll look into getting those highways on the maps soon - I'm moving to Sweden in March ... If someone wants to draw them on themselves, I can send them the original bitmaps and they can have a go from there ... In the meantime, enjoy the new data feature Tim
  13. What's up with your profile picture kiwitony? It looks remarkably like one of the generators in the Manipouri Power Station with flames coming out of it???!!!
  14. Hi people, I've recently put together a graphical cache page (Similar in style to Buxleys) just for us New Zealand geocachers. The URL is www.nzcaches.tk The site is powered by an application I've written which runs 24/7 as a background task on my work computer maintaining a current database of NZ caches. The site updates 5 times daily at midnight, 7am, noon, 5pm and 8pm. I'd like to say a particular thanks to Nick (BigNick) for his input and help with the maps - I'm sure you'll agree they look fantastic. Enjoy!
  15. It's so funny reading all the comments in this thread - seems everyone wants to endorse their camera! Well - here's my 2c! I can fully recommend a Canon A200 - 2 Mega-Pixel - perfect introductory camera, takes fantastic pictures, is loaded with features and is the cheapest 2MP camera around. You can put it in point-and-shoot mode and use it like a normal snappy camera, or put it in manual mode and start playing all the cool settings/features. Runs for ages off two Ni-MH batteries and uses CF storage cards - which aren't the expensive ones! Best of all, it's only $580 (NZ) and you can get a cool underwater diving case for it! Only minus is there's no optical zoom.
