  1. Is there a program for the pocket pc that will do voice prompts for routing when connected to a bluetooth GPSr? I was looking at the Garmin iQue and it looks like if I buy the bluetooth GPS 10 and buy an HP pocket pc I will have a better pc to work with. Has anyone had experience with this setup? Thanks Yak Man
  2. I had 2 120's and would have to say that the gpsr part worked fine but the screen was too small for me, the radio part stunk, and the interface part (menu's and the like) was the worst. I just gave them away. I would go with a good GPSr and then look for good radios.
  3. Thanks for the ideas! I will start checking some of the links. NO I will not clear cut! its controlled burn or nothing! Yak Man
  4. If I am not mistaken, it looks like the 76cs screen is smaller the the 76s. Is this correct? Yak Man
  5. There are a lot of thorns in my area. I remember reading in an orienteering newsletter about thorn proof pants. After getting completely perforated while hunting a cache, they came back to mind. Anyone know where I can get some? Has anyone tried them? Any reviews? Thanks for any help. Yak Man
  6. When I first started to Geocache I carried lots of stuff to trade but soon realized it was too much of a hassle. Now every cache is TN/LN and I enjoy it much more. Its all about the hunt. If I want Mctoys I will go to McDonalds.
  7. Does the batt extender charge the unit while plugged in? can you load mapsource and topo maps on to the sd card and use them in this unit?
  8. I have 2 pieces of Velcro rope. (available from REI) it is essentially the two opposite sides of the Velcro sewn together back to back. I make a loop around my GPSr and one around the strap of my pack up on top of my shoulder. So when I want to get it out of my hand I just stick it up on my shoulder. It keeps a lock up there very well and wont fall of if I bend over. I do however have an overwhelming desire to keep saying “I dare you to call it regular!” (only older people will get that.) [] Yak Man
  9. I was using a Sony T610 with my laptop. I found that Bluetooth is the slowest option. When I had it connected via IR it was noticeably faster. Connecting via a cable is even faster (according to the tech I talked to). A USB cable that would charge the phone while online would be a big advantage. My 2 cents. Yak Man
  10. I was able to do a nice multi, 2 micro's and the final, 1 regular, and went back on a revisit to pick up a bug but it left. I found a 6 point deer antler too. It was a great sunny day and I had a blast. [] Yak Man
  11. Compared to what I spent on them, the going price did not seem like it was worth selling them. So I gave them away to friends. I know... that is even less money but I get a good feeling and that is worth more to me. [] Thanks for the info. Yak Man
  12. I bring it on in my carry on bag and have never had a problem. After they say its ok to use devices I turn it on, set it in my coat thats bunched up by the window, and connect it to my laptop with the cable. that way I can look at the map program that is on my laptop and see much more detail. I have never had a problem since the GPSr is never in sight. I sometimes tell people around me when we cross into a new state. Its a blast and keeps me entertained for the whole trip to Oregon from Chicago. Yak Man
  13. My Pontiac Vibe has one like that. It has a DVD with the whole US on it. It does voice nav and re-routing. It seems to run off GPS and signals from the steering wheel and transmission. I dont think it is as reliable as my old Garmin Colormap though. It tends to get "lost" at strange times. I would prefer if it ran from the GPS signal only. Yak Man
  14. I have 2 that I bought and never used. I hate to just waste them. What do you think they are worth? I have used them less than 5 hours. Yak Man.
  15. Can I get rid of it on the rino like i did on my 85s? Yak Man
  16. It works like a charm! Thank You Garmin for the update. I am mapping all the bike trails around my area and this will help. Yak Man

  18. Does anyone know how I can get a new track out of my 76s, and into an existing saved map? If I have the saved map open, and click open from device, when it is done reading the gps it makes a new map. I no longer have my existing one open. I tried to cut and paste between them but no go. And the export function extensions (.txt .dxf) are not supported in the import function. Can anyone help? I saw the other thread. I want to stay in Mapsoruce (already paid for it) any clues anyone? 20. I plan to celebrate by spending this weekend in Kickapoo State Park and do some kayaking and caching. If all goes well I will hit the 30 found mark.
  21. http://www.ram-mount.com/ramgps.htm Ram mount has some suction cup mounts that will stick to the windshield and wont leave any permanent marks. I have a ram mount for my mtn bike and the quality seems great. Have fun with your new toy! ps that picture seems to be of a ram mount, just the bolt down kind. 23. I was thinking about starting a topic like this too. I got mine Tuesday the 23rd. I ordered it Monday the 22 so I don’t understand all the comments about a long wait. I would have to say that so far I am very impressed. It is really rugged and well built. I have a color map and was using an E-map that I borrowed until they released the 76s. This is much better. The only gripe I have is that uploading the maps is very slow. It seems to take just under an hour. Is there a faster way? So my initial rating is three thumbs up. (I have a birth defect)
