    My GPS

How about a change to the review feature so that it is not possible to give a ZERO stars? I've got a Vista HCX which most reviews have put as 5 or 4 stars, but because there are a few blank review entries where people have either just made a mistake or been too dumb to realise what to do and left the stars blank, the average has been pulled down to a 3*. I mean, one entry actually says "Easy to use and has always been accurate. . ." but because they then didn't award any stars, that very positive comment has a negative effect on the overall rating.
  2. Maybe the delay is due to your location, Hampshire seems to be a long way from Hungary. When contacting the reviewer explain how you will maintain the caches or they will be seen as 'vacation caches' and may never see the light of day. Not only that, but the reviewer is most likely Hungarian. So if your caches are in English, you're hoping that the Reviewer: a Doesn't ignore them because they are 'Vacation' Caches. b Reads enough English to know what they are about. c Doesn't have a question as to their suitability to the local environment. Like, are you actually aware of any/all local rules/guidelines for Hungary? Of course, if you happen to be Hungarian, have written them in Hungarian and are familiar with all the local practices, then all you have to do is wait...
  3. Considering all the drivel and tripe that mtm-man has put up with from some quarters around these forums, I think he has done very well. Perhaps he could have left it running, but why? It's not the petty regulating or moderating that have dragged this UK Forum down, it's the displays of Petulance from people who can't have their own way. Just by way of a reminder, the Congrats thread was set up by Lactodorum with the following opening statement. So all mtn-man has done is follow the lead of a former Mod who is still a respected member of the UK community... If it was good enough to be UK Forum policy then, why not now? The saying about 'What's good for the Goose is good for the Gander' comes to mind.
  4. I/We only became Premium when we moved on from the faithful Yellow and wanted to go paperless, hence the Premium Membership in order to do PQs etc...
  5. No need to leave it out if you get permission for an inside cache, like in a major supermarket it could be placed like one of those random items when someone changes their mind. You know the sort of thing, the Baked Bean Can in the Cereal isle. Mind you, speaking of 'Trash Caches', I recently heard tale of a Cacher in the US who places Nanos which are inside soft drink bottle caps, and fixed to the ground in Alleyways!!
  6. I agree entirely. I didn't see the post that was removed, but I can guess at the subject. Speaking personally, I've had enough of people deliberately trying to push the Mods and wish we could just go back to hunting boxes!
  7. Didn't that leave a direct trail for a Muggle? Or did you take a brush and smooth it all out on the way back
  8. Have to admit, there's no snow here, though I guess many of you saw it on the news and in the press when we got about 6 inches before Christmas. It's such a rare thing that the Snow Plan for the airport is to wait until it melts!! Right now we have heavy rain, forecast to last 3 days, but on the surrounding mountains that is falling as snow above 5,000 ft. Not a day to be caching in the desert, sicce there will be likely be some flash flooding. So many people don't worry about waterproofing their caches* out here that I'm sure there will be a lot of soggy logs reported in the next few weeks. * because it's so dry here normally, a lot of people place small/micro that are in tins or very cheap plastic pots. I've even seen regular that are in Peanut Butter plastic jars or Coffee Tubs. I'm actually looking forward to returning home permanently next year.
  9. There was also a 'cachekiller' who had one 'find' and one 'hide' in Germany a few years ago, the account is active but not logged in for 18 months. The problem is of course the individual can open as many accounts as they wish, unless GSP can lock out the IP address or similar. I guess it will be a case of wait and see.
  10. Sure he was a Farmer? From the clothes he sounds like an Army Officer, probably Cavalry!
  11. I'll second, third the comments about Base maps. All they are good for is knowing where the main highway routes are, even then, I quite often find that if we're driving along with the Vista in map mode just to see what is coming up along the route, our trail line is running parallel to the map road line.
  12. .......and never ending e-mails from that point onwards...... As well as signing you up for a monthly fee that's impossible to claw back http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=202892 We got ours from Superstickers.com They appear to be much more expensive lately and I wonder if they were sourcing them from the EU or the US. I've never had any problem apart from the weekly email. I looked at that link you provided and I get the impression that the troubles are caused by people linking to Vistaprint via other sites. Pressing too many buttons for special offers. However, I will keep an eye on my card transactions, having brought something from them about 2 months ago. Nothing untoward as yet.
  13. DING Close Enough - No need for the Dodgy Lingo ! Over to adrianjohn
  14. Just to bump this as the on-line store Vistaprint are offering free small self-inking stamps at the moment. Customise if you wish. Special Offer Just usual shipping charges small print...
  15. Rutson appears not to be paying attention, so as co-correct answer with Chudley the last time around, I'm going to take the liberty of keeping this going. World Geography - What is the 'Sea of Cortes' more often known as?
  16. We just has a strange muggle experience. I know we're in the US, but I still think it was strange! See Log Anyone else met a weird Muggle recently?
  17. Hear hear! Pity we don't have some clapping smilies on here (I'm sure there is a way to import them, but it's beyond my skills! )
  18. DIsguised as something else is fine, but fake dog's poo? The problem with that is, people take their kids caching, and no-one wants to encourage kids to check out dog poo in case it's a cache. Don't you have the same concerns in whatever country you come from? I've seen pine cones, logs, sticks, birds, plants, rocks, a fake skull. and even a fake tree I think the test is, would you want kids to be picking it up? I quite agree with you about the children issue, it's just that I went onto a website from USA and they had different things to hide your cache in and the fake dog poo was one of them. Did you mean this topic on the Main Forum Pictures - Cool Cache Containers ? I always check that out every few months, just to see what devious ideas have been developed. Of course some of them rely on the great swaths of wilderness that exit in the USA; though check out the one at the top of Page 53 it's from Germany. A Walnut up a tree!!! I've made stones in the past with cement, 35mm pot and some paint. Our finds have included bird boxes, decorative bird 'house', rocks, electrical boxes, amongst others. It sure beats the film pot in the ivy! I see you are new and already have a ratio of 20 finds / 2 own. I wouldn't rush at it; as you increase your finds some ideas will come to you about what is a good or bad cache. But a hearty welcome to the sport/hobby/obsession! Ahhh - we're a bit off topic... So back on... Yes, it's OK to put caches in places that are locked up at certain times, so long as all the relevant info is explained in the pages. What you can't do is put caches in places that require specialist membership (though that doesn't stop caches being published in Iraq and Afghanistan that are 'within the wire'; I guess that's because the locals don't cache but lots of US Military do!!!)
  19. My scheduled ones have all arrived on the correct dates...
  20. I love a good conspiracy theory so how about this... tajger, who has only cached in Sweden, back in Sep 2007 just a few days after taking membership and is most likely Swedish (as their logs appear to be in the aforesaid language, but like most Scandinavians, they also have excellent English), has suddenly decided to make their first forum post. This forum post is on the UK forum even though there is a Scandinavian Forum (OK it only has 52 posts compared to the 14,074 of the UK Forum ). Next, this website that they have been compelled to post about now appears to be only 2 days old and hosted in Sweden, to promote some sort of Treasure hunt competition. So, is this in reality all part of the advertising campaign, and the whole thing is really being run by tajger from their back bedroom !!
  21. Could be anything. For me, doing a search on various engines for 'geocachout' doesn't even find that page. So it's not exactly high profile at the moment if its some form of advance publicity.
  22. I'm not surprised! Not exactly obvious is it. I looked at the page and thought "Next!' Gee thanks... It's a 3 star for difficulty, so I hope it's not obvious. We have a fun group of puzzle cache solvers around here that really enjoy harder puzzles. We also get out-of-towners that enjoy these too. So to each his/her own. Actually I just didn't understand it
