  1. We just published an Adventure Lab and the builder is awesome. Very user friendly and easy to follow instructions.
  2. Landsharkz mentioned that this is the place to post if you're looking for local guides/info, or people to hike with, and we just wanted to underline that and say, "Sure; get in touch...we're looking forward to welcoming everyone to our lovely island.[]
  3. Going by a look at My Pictures the answer would be "my children'
  4. I have a major difficulty with the new maps. THERE IS NO SCALE. I cannot tell how far apart caches are anymore. We travel lots for caching and I am used to planning nice caching walks-all of a sudden that has become very difficult. Please, Groundspeak, give us back a scale.
  5. Challenges may not be everyone's cup-of-tea, but then, nothing is..my only objection to them is that you can vote thumbs up or thumbs down; what's the point, besides hurting people's feelings?
  6. We live in Victoria (AMAZING caching around here, especially if you love to hike) and would like to get in touch with a couple (or single?) to exchange guest bedrooms. Obviously most people want to come to Oahu in the winter months, and most people in Hawaii would rather not do an exchange in December with someone in B.C. so we thought; "Hey, come and spend a Summer week or two in our guest bedroom (w/ en suite bath); we'll feed you breakfast (we have a chicken farm so eggs are over easy:-) ) and show you the best places to cache..In exchange we could come and occupy your spare bedroom for a week or two in the Winter months. Anyone interested? Cheers Cache Crop
  7. One of our favourite caches ever was under the end of a floating walkway through some lovely wetlands. It was attached to the underside of the walkway and weighted so you couldn't see it..had to feel underneath for the fishing line. The container was inside a bag that is normally used for carrying cameras etc in a canoe or kayak in case they fall overboard. Check the canoe/kayak stores.
  8. Thank you for posting these images-that is very helpful in deciding to purchase a 550. Is there a screen for off road navigation to a cache with a pointer and distance as on a handheld gps?
  9. Re peanut butter jars..it's possible it depends on the brand!! I know for sure of one cacher (check out Squirrelydeath's caches) here (and it does get VERY wet here) who uses little else, and some of his caches have been active and dry for at least three years. I'd guess the better the peanut-butter, the better the seal.
  10. One good rule for logging..Be Nice. Don't trash (verbally) someone elses cache on line. It urts their feelings. If it needs maintenance, or if there's a safety issue or something, say so; just try to be positive, because someone has put effort into this hide so we can keep playing. We almost never trade, so we don't often bother with saying so (TNLN or Took Nothing Left Nothing) anymore.
  11. People use all sorts of containers, and some of the best I've seen for keeping dry and not cracking are peanut-butter jars (plastic, of course). They're free, water-tight, and come in various sizes. Easy to camo with paint or camo duct tape, too. I don't think old yogurt containers are much good..they leak and break; small ice-cream containers work for years though. Around here, (Vancouver Island) most people seem to use Lock and Lock boxes, but there is a cost for those, even if you don't get the official, camoed ones. Welcome to the Sport.
  12. I can see I'll have to refine my search a bit. Much as we'd love to explore Dallas, you're right; it is a bit on the steamy side for us just now. What we're looking for is somewhere for a week (or so) within driving distance, so Washington or Oregon, probably in September, although that's flexible. Another thought, that might be easier, is we do have a spare room and could accomodate a couple...we could stay in your spare room and then you could stay in ours. I reckon if this works out we could set up a world-wide exchange site for cachers..you could just put what you want onto the site...say 2 weeks in Oz in exchange for 2 weeks in France...and wait for a good match. java script:add_smilie("","smid_43")
  13. We've been caching around Vancouver Island for a few years now, and enjoying occasional trips to the U.S West Coast, but the cost of motels, and even camping, makes trips off Island pretty pricey. We have a nice, 3 bed-room house on the Saanich Peninsula, just north of Victoria, B.C. The Greater Victoria district boasts more than 1500 caches and many, many amazing parks for hiking, biking and caching. Where do you live?? Wanna talk about a house swap??

    emulator

I think it's possible to play partly with a PC using an emulator. How? I have a GPSmap76CSx
  15. I'd love to say that I was delighted with my one month old Legend HCx, but I am not. I've had 4 Garmins over the 3 years (even bottom of the line $100 H versions) I've been caching and this one is the slowest to respond to Sat signals. I'm always about 50-60 meters behind on the readinds on my wife's 76 Hcx an my granddaughter's Vista HCx. If we don't move my Legend will eventually 'catch up' and have a similiar reading. Also, this one loses its settings and reverts to it's factory settings when I shut it off, leaving me without WAAS. Perhaps I have a defective machine??????
  16. Anyone want to stay at our place..we have floor space or tent space for a few bodies, check the Just Because It's June BBQ for co-ords
  17. Does anyone know who, world-wide, has found the most caches? I wonder if there's a fierce battle for first place going on in the top-cacher Olympics.
