  1. Not everyone has a good income and can afford nice containers. Be happy with what is out there.

Are you referring to CR's comment on the leaky film canister? And are we taking pity on cache owners that can afford a GPS unit, a car and some gas money but can't afford $2 for a matchstick container? or $3 for a small lock n lock? or a couple of bucks on a small nalgene jar?

I was referring to the OP. I take no pity on no man, woman or child. I just don't whine when I go to a cache and complain that someone else didn't put enough effort into it. I sign a thank you for the cache and continue on.

I use to be like that, but around year 7 the proliferation of micros planted just because they were cheap and easy to hide really got annoying. I've been around to see the changes and this one aspect of the game is not something that I feel should be lauded or even accepted without protest.

But they'll (Geocaching) follow the money which means younger, smart phones and micros. Get used to it.

TFTC only log = thank you for being cheap.

I've never signed that way. Of course, you get what you ask for. If you put out a small container, don't expect a War & Peace reply.

Looks cool, but I'd counter sink and plug the screw holes. A lot of cachers carry multi tools and it's a sure bet someone with a phillip's head will take a shortcut.

Maybe you could explain it better so people without the knowledge would better understand? I doubt everyone knows what countersink is or have the tools to do it. Anyho, I think anyone who would stoop to removing the screws would do it with plugs as well with any filler. Maybe use a star head screw or a square head screw so a leatherman or similar tool would not work?

  5. I'd say 1 in every five, I find in the urban enviroment is hidden on electrical equipment. Those, I don't do with my kids. The ones that're really fun are the magnetic tape hidden under a flange or other piece of a transformer and people start prying the covers open looking for stuff. I post my disapproval in the log and leave it at that. I figure most people caching will do as they please any way and not heed my cocerns on the matter.

I've often wondered if I made a cache look like it was hooked up to live wires on purpose, how many people would go for it? I'm willing to bet, a lot would.

  6. So, they add this new attribute. I'd (if I ever hide a cache) put it there just to cover my butt. No matter what the real danger was. Ya' know, I'm pretty new to this hobby but I've never even looked at the attributes until ya'll mentioned them in this thread. Now do you really think anyone that is young is gonna' look?

My condolences for the family. The guy fell through a hole on an elevated catwalk at night, in an off limits area. Do you think he would of noticed an attribute warning?

  7. Can someone help me out here. This user, Rain_Beaux, has logged over 5000 finds in the 20 days since they have joined. 2000 finds since yesterday. They are logging finds with dates going back to 2010. I have sent them a message asking what is going on, but wanted to get some opinions here first. Could this be legitimate in anyway? Should I report this, if so to who?

    Thanks,

Were they always under that name or were they part of a team?

  8. Do you honestly think that anything posted here will stop someone from getting hurt? People get hurt because they didn't think. End of story. sSig_2cents.gif

I am being perfectly honest here when I say the warning would have encouraged ME to conquer the cache. Would I have done it alone at night? perhaps not. But I still would have put that cache tops on my list to complete.

No matter the warnings, I'll still twist my ankles, tweak my knees, get smacked in the eyes by a wayward branch and trip and fall. I'll get scraped up, skinned up and bruised. All of these can be avoided but will they? Nope. Because I'll be distracted doing something else and wam! It ain't called a 'purpose'. It's called an accident.

  9. Keep at it. I've logged an extra 600 miles this month because I keep going back to one cache in my neck of the woods that I can't find. I've been there many times and I'm stumped. They arn't all easy. Nor should they be.
