  1. Why is there a pipe in front of a window? Kinda' ruins the view no?
  2. Don't use string as it wouldn't last very long. A chain would be best. Or cable.
  3. Hand made stuff for me. Toys for the kids. I recently dropped off some hand made wooden items I cut on a lathe.
  4. My kids 9 & 10 love swag. They'll trade up every time. I've had my daughter trade money for sea shells. Value is in the eye of the beholder. My son (10 going on 11), has a treasure chest in his room. A while ago, I asked to see what was in it. It was full of rocks, sticks, rocks, marbles, broken pieces of glass, pebbles, rocks, found swag and some twisted pieces of metal. Did I mention rocks? Sure were a lot of rocks. That stuff was what he treasured. Things he found while we were doing things as a family. His money is in wads on the bookcase and dresser. He could care less for video games or TV (we don't watch TV). So, when he finds a new hot wheels car or matchbox, it's something he is going to play with. Something he will use a lot. Something he'll remember for the next 30 or so years. I can ask him which cache he got which toy at and he can remember every single little detail about that day. When driving the car and pass a cache location, he'll blurt out how good it was by the swag content. To me it is all about the swag. If looking for good swag locations, I've found parks and deep woods areas the best. Places the casual geocacher won't go.
  5. Granted, this makes sense. But do understand that there are those out there that have no sense. Orienteering is work/fun, Google maps are, well... imperfect at best. Now, who said they don't use new-fangled devices... somebody posting on a forum using a computer, or a smart-phone? Somebody using Google maps even? Computers are quite old. Let me tell you about the tank simulator (early/mid eighties) that took up two semi trailers that I used to run that had less memory then my current model computer.
  6. Of course I've also not found about another 30 or so caches that a lot of other people have found so it's touch and go and you can forget about FTFs.
  7. Wow, and here I thought my truck tool boxes were gonna' be big ones.
  8. I've only found 250 or so, so far but I don't use one of those fang-dangled gps thingies. Those are for people that can't navigate by map and compass. Not that there is anything wrong with that....
  9. I carry about 80 different sizes to fix any old o-rings I come across. I've used about 30 different sizes so far.
  10. Dinosaurs here in Michigan were the oddest things we've come across...
  11. That. I've had close encounters with black bears, alligators, venomous snakes, feral cattle and all manner of stinging, blood sucking insects, but mankind is certainly the most dangerous. Humans was my response as well. Come across drug dealers and gang bangers on occasion. From experience, (thankfully not much experience) an equalizer generally renders all but the most suicidal or idiotic humans as gentle as a kitten. Some dogs will even shy from a gun. Also from experience, I've never had a bear or any other wild animal shy from my gun pointed at them in case they got too close. Sidebar: For those that got the reference (by the photo) to the 80's cop show. It was unintended. Also, I own one of those and it has to be the most impractical sidearm EVER invented. It's the most expensive paperweight I ever bought. What the heck were the Israelies thinkin'? I have one of the Baby Eagles in .45 ACP. It's all steel and works great with the hi-cap mag with 10 rounds of +P ammo. It has all the bells and whistles that a defense side arm needs. Those big ones are just for looks, and won't scare a snake, coyote, or bear and more than a smaller sidearm. But I would sure as heck prefer one of the big ones chambered in .50 AE if a bear were attacking me. I'll have to disagree here. I pointed mine at a few animals (coyotes) and they ran pretty fast. I think animals that have witnessed what a gun will do learn they are bad mojo.
  12. But, now if a cache seeker see's one under ground he/she might just start looking for underground ones at his/her next search. I thought that was the reason behind the rulez?
  13. Paranoid idiots will call in a bomb scare because they are paranoid idiots. Dosen't matter how or where you attempt to hide something. Oh, without bombs and bomb scares, there'd be no bomb squad. Job security and all.
  14. When visiting another country, you always are treated better if you 'attempt' to speak their language. Even if you screw it up, you get treated a lot better if you try. It is the polite thing to do. Just sayin'
  15. Please just do this. Good co-ordinates are imperative. Please Please Please Bah! Adds to the fun when they're 100 meters off or so. Makes the find more fun.
  16. Make sure that it'll withstand Mother Nature at her worst in your neck of the woods. I've been building a few that haven't held up as good as I'd like. And remember that if someone might accidently break it, they will.
  17. I left my water in my 'extra' backpack in the trunk of my car on the hotest day of this year. I drank my 2 small 8 oz bottles and then ate a lot of wild raspberries until I made it back. I was having cramps for 3 days after that one.
  18. So, all the puzzle caches I did, I never even attempted to do the riddle but rather park at the parking co-ordinates and just search. All those high difficulties should be reduced then, yes?
  19. All the high difficulty river caches around here, I'm just waiting for the rivers to lower in the fall and then I'm walking to them. You can't plan for everything.
  20. I have a 120 mile round commute each day. I try a different route each day or a cache a day to keep the doctor away. It works.
  21. 'Usual place' is the answer you're looking for.
  22. I mean someone with like 100+ hides and over 20 favorites on almost all their hides. Not boring hides like LPC's... Boring? LPC's? I've encountered quite a few bee's with my limited LPC finds and I can assure you they weren't boring. They have also put me off of them until the weather changes. Then they'll be boring.
  23. As long as you mention it in the info part of the cache page, I don't see anything wrong with it. Of course, be prepared for people showing you stuff you might not want to see.
  24. I usually go 20-30 miles out of my way every day to get a cache. But never beyond that....yet....
