  1. I've found a number of caches hidden in Altoids Tins as well as other mint containers. They ALL got nasty. Just say NO to Altoids tins as cache containers. The very best way to make sure they don't leak is to simply not use them in the first place.
  2. How much trouble did you go through to get that † character in there? Crap, doesn't paste properly. Never mind. Decimal: 8224 Hex: 2021 HTML Number: † Description: Dagger Symbol: †
  3. Go to the Trackables page and you will find all the info you need.
  4. I've geocached using a nüvi 760 in a pinch. You have to use coordinate matching. You can actually use GSAK to send your pocket query to the nüvi but then you have to look up the cache (Where To, Extras, Custom POI) to get the coordinates. You can have the unit drive you to the area of the cache and then back out, go to the satellite screen, and move around until you match the coordinates. I don't have my wife's 200 here with me but, on my 760, you can press and hold the screen on the upper left where the battery indicator is and it will switch to the satellite screen. Likely the same on the 200. You can get info on the satellite screen and other "hidden" screens for your nüvi over at POI Factory. Lots of good info there on automotive GPS units and the users are very helpful.
  5. You forgot to say IBTL. IBTL! I had a well thought-out reply ready to post, but no matter how I looked at it it just seemed patronizing. It's like going to a NASCAR race and looking for the section that only likes strawberry ice cream. Nah.............. I was going to try NASCAR but I couldn't find the section for people who like RIGHT turns!
  6. It doesn't have to be a day trip. I went to the one in northern Washington and I live in California. Local cachers here are going to the one in New Jersey. When we co-hosted #6 in Wheatland I worked the check-in stand most of the day. I met folks from Germany, the Netherlands, etc. It certainly wasn't a day trip for them!
  7. Mine's pretty simple. It's just a 1" pin-on button.
  8. Does he wear shoes in snow? I went to college with a kid that would wear sandals all winter long (in Wisconsin, with NO socks!) I still see him some times when I am coaching skiing because he will come out to the hill to take pics of the racers and there he will be on the hill with sandals on. I remember his feet were pretty tough but not like Cody's. Wow. I'm pretty sure nuedcacher tends to wear shoes when geocaching. Moderation in all things.
  9. I once picked up a full set of brand new Harry Potter books as FTF prizes in a series placed by a local geocacher. It was pretty sweet. (Thanks BlueMotmot!)
  10. It often seems to end up meaning that the person hid the cache in a place with no redeeming value such as in a busy downtown area that nobody in their right mind would want to visit.
  11. I've won: Good times with my wife Good times with my neighbor Good times yaking with other cachers Good times alone MY LIFE BACK - I was an addicted Internet gamer (Dark Age of Camelot) for 3.5 years and when I discovered geocaching I went outside and never gamed again I really don't see geocaching as a game - I call it a hobby. Geocaching isn't for everybody and I'm sooooooooooooooooo very glad that's true.

  13. I'd agree with the others. From your description it sounds to me as though the unit was trying to figure out where in the world it was located. It can sometimes take a surprisingly long time to do so - especially if moved a long distance. I once showed up at a geocache for a FTF try and found a local cacher there already. He said he'd been there for a good 10 minutes already but his GPS was still trying to figure out where it was because he had just returned from Ireland and hadn't powered the unit on since his return. We stood and talked for a good 10 - 15 minutes longer before his unit got its bearings and then we both looked for the cache.

I looked up this user and then the caches he's found and the language should be Danish. I used a cheesy online translator and got this: ============ Hey , is there some there known about decent can be make use of a Nokia N8 to that gps find by , and is there some there known where decent eventually , can be find a apps , and can be dovnloade the to N8. Thank you very much by they if any answer. Bow Olvard ============== the translation is obviously faulty but it looks as if this question is in regard to using a Nokia N8 telephone as a unit for geocaching. Perhaps someone else can help because I'm totally clueless regarding caching with phones.
  15. Fox Tactical appears to sell to wholesalers ONLY....... I take it you purchased the bag elsewhere?
  16. Googled Garmin Communicator.Went to the test link. It said I had an older version. Updated. Works fine with Firefox 5. I even checked the install.rdf file and it says max version is 6.*

  18. I've had similar issues. When I click on the link for Larger Map on a cache page I tend to see all of the caches BUT the one I'm trying to locate. The cache associated with the page where I clicked the link doesn't show. Now that's annoying! The only reason I clicked the link for the larger map was go get a better idea of the placement of the cache. When it doesn't appear on the map I'm left wondering what the heck is going on.
  19. I used to be an online gamer -- Dark Age of Camelot -- and they had some pretty outrageous names for toons in that game. However, they DID have some standards. I remember one person who had a name that blatantly glorified pedophilia. THAT name was squelched as were a few others I can remember. There's much to be said against "lack of tolerance" but there are certain things I just can't condone. </shrug> Folks will never agree on this sort of subject so I generally don't get my panties in a bunch over stuff like this. I have MY standards and I stick to them. The opinions and standards of others is beyond my control.
  20. no, they shouldn't exist and i am quite shocked that GC has not created a list of non-acceptable user names, much like the words that get censored here in the forums As long as they don't censor offensive avatars, right? What could possibly be offensive about peeing on an APPLE? It's possible that avatar might deserve an award......... </duck>
  21. I used to be an Aluminum Member but one time when we were camping my wife stole my hat and wrapped potatoes in it to bake them by the camp fire. I could never get the dang hat properly shaped so it fit right after that.
  22. It's easy to find out about the Platinum membership. It's regularly discussed in the Platinum Members Forum. Check it out. I don't know what all this "joke" stuff is about. People are just jealous.
  23. Sesame Street used to show a video of a girl in NY City strolling through the streets with her pet llama. The kid was taking the llama to have it's teeth cleaned. There was a song with it. The song was about "me and my llama going to the dentist".
  24. Too late! I think there were at least three llamas in the thread before you posted this. Oh wait... I just noticed you're talking about "one-l" lamas. You're right, you were in before him. Well HELLO DALI!!!
