Just a couple of clarifications on the canyon series. The north fork is the definately the toughest one to do in the winter and spring. Ironically, it is the easiest (physically) in the summer and fall. Yes to bike or skis, but there is no steep, offroad scrambling. The first finisher of the three caches in the series is entitled to far more than trinkets. A $40 gift certificate to a local restarant would be more reasonable of reward. logscaler will tell you that the trick to completing the series is in the timing. Lighters in caches

How about Westside Bakery on Galveston? There is another one close by (can't think of the name) on the 'Phoenix' roundabout. You might want to check out some of Big Eddy's caches at Shevlin Park. Enjoy. "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there" -George Harrison

OT....but I quit smoking
Chief Paulina replied to Cabernet and Wife's topic in General geocaching topics
It's been 13+ years now for me. See, I don't even count days and months anymore, lol. The first week was tough. It got steadily easier as the days went by after that first week. I quit through hypnosis. I HIGHLY recommend that for any kind of self discipline, especially smoking and weight control. It likely will be one of the very best decisions that you will make in your lifetime. "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there" -George Harrison -
I'm headed Boise way from Central Oregon for the next few days. Anyone got some good caches that a hiker would like? Anywhere between here and there. An easy one would be welcome if it had some quality to it. Any Boise input? logscaler? Mad Jack? "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there" -George Harrison

Way to go team. It must be a great feeling. I like the small ball idea also. Pictures of the team would be good too. Hide it somewhere bb oriented. YOu should consider a 'black plastic bag' cache on your next trip to C O. Maybe we could trade BPC's. Think of the opportunities. Chief Paulina was a renegade Shoshone Indian chief that traveled with the Poviotso Confederacy in the mid 1800's. His band covered an area in Oregon from the Cascades to the Snake River and from the Columbia to the California/Nevada border. While other Indian nations gave in to white supremacy and filed off to the reservations, the Western Shoshone (Snake) tribe fought to the death for their land and lifestyle. Paulina (War Spirit) was one of three chiefs and was believed to be impenatrable until chased down and killed by Henry Maupin and friends. If it were not on private property, I would love to place a cache at his final resting place. "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there" -George Harrison

Cache owners finding their own mobile cache
Chief Paulina replied to Web-ling's topic in General geocaching topics
I placed a mobile cache to stay in a general area and can be found and hidden by anyone, including myself. There are many very interesting hiding places and just as many logs. I encourage macro photos of little people. I also allow multiple 'finds' to cachers. That outa stir some folks up, huh? Thanks LB & MM. As they are all 1/1, I may have to try for all of them while there. We'll see if time allows. I hope to get down here sometime this spring or summer and do a cache dash. "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there" -George Harrison

Pardon the short timeline, but I will be in Medford tomorrow. What would you suggest for a good cache or two? Because time is limited, please suggest a 2/2 or less. Thanks. Sorry I can't make it to the bash. I'll be lucky to make it to our local one. "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there" -George Harrison

I'm presently scratching my head, thinking "where am I going to find a plate?" Perhaps I can find one on my journeys. If all else fails, I will look forward to checking it out someday. It will be like a museum. If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there - George Harrison

Beer cans work the best for me. I prefer the 16 oz because there is room for lots of butts and they don't shatter when hit with a 300 mag. On my multi's, ribbons left behind by gov't surveyors work well except where there are so many that chasers get confused. I like to roll the ribbons up into a big ball and leave in caches for dogs to play with. If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there - George Harrison

Moratorium on Locationless Caches
Chief Paulina replied to Jeremy's topic in General geocaching topics
My idea of a good cache is something that allows me to get in some good hiking, see new places and learn something new. Locationless caches, although I have not done a lot, have been a very intriguing part of adventures. I've had a lot of fun with them. So OK, temporarily suspend. But bring them back in a better, more organized format. If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there - George Harrison -
Especially when it is a relatively complicated multi. logscaler and Mad Jack probably remember one of my major blunders. If there is anything I can help with this weekend (while in the area), let me know. If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there - George Harrison

I think that I am in need of journey thru time. I have a hunch that I will meet some fellow cachers out there. If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there - George Harrison

Please help - tick stuck in our 2-year old
Chief Paulina replied to GRANDMASTER CACHE's topic in General geocaching topics
See the doctor. The remains are dead and will eventually infect. Must come out. This actually happened to my sister. Don't get panicked. He'll be alright. -
Thanks for the kudos. I must tell you that the funnest part of geocaching is finding the special little places of this world. The second most fun thing to do is to share them with my fellow geocachers. Cheers.

I would like very much to tromp the hills of the John Day Fossil country. I just need an excuse (AKA cache). I hope that you can the OK from the powers. If not, perhaps you could do a multi that starts there. I'll be on the lookout.
