  1. ANYTIME you go out of town, you look up the benchmarks in the area you're visiting, to see if you can find any when you're there.
  2. Monkeykat has written a program which uses Google Maps to locate any benchmark in the US. Check out his link: http://benchmarks.scaredycatfilms.com/
  3. I'm with you 100%, John. We really don't need a can of worms here.
  4. Last month's updates were enough to keep me happy for awhile. Looking forward to the next updates.
  5. Maybe they'll update the datasheets, too!
  6. Here's an accidental find from Edgartown MA. Not in the NGS database. TIDAL NO 9 1960 - Edgartown MA TIDAL NO 9 distant view
  7. I guess that it didn't go through the first time. It upgraded me instantly just now! Thanks!!
  8. I upgraded my membership yesterday and I want to begin searching for premium caches. My profile still says that I only have basic membership. How long until my upgrade goes into effect?
  9. Also along the coast of RI many benchmarks were actually pintles in batteries. Thanks for the details about that.
  10. Go for it in CA! Only 4 more counties to fill the state. Back in the Northeast, Sullivan County NH stands as the last county with no recoveries. Who will go for it?
  11. Jim, thanks for the latest updates. That trip through New York was a lot of fun! Also, after several months of work, Ohio has joined the list of states which are all in color.
  12. Love to see those updates, especially the maps!! Thanks again.
  13. Thanks for sharing this recovery. I must admit to a greater interest in the older finds.
  14. Jim, Thanks again for your latest updates. I always look forward to seeing the maps!!
  15. Maybe we'll see a big splash at the end of September...
  16. Summer must be their busiest time.
  17. I see that the captions for the maps are now consistent. On the "recent recoveries" map, the seven counties in northwest Ohio show new recoveries through May 31. On the "total recoveries" map, though, the same seven counties show no recoveries through May 31. Which of the two maps is displaying the correct information?
  18. I guess that the NGS has a somewhat unpredictable update schedule. I have a question about the maps, which I always look forward to. The top map is captioned "Total GEOCAC Recoveries as of May 1, 2010." The bottom map is captioned "Recent GEOCAC Recoveries from May 1, 2010 to May 31, 2010. Is there a way to have the top map include the recent recoveries shown on the bottom map? Of course, we all appreciate your endeavors when it comes to updating all of the county maps and numbers. We're all looking forward to the next NGS update!
  19. Nice work, Dolphin! Love those pictures, and of course it's always fun to color in those counties!
  20. On a recent recovery of a station mark in someone's yard, I walked up to the homeowner's door wearing this shirt. After I rang the bell and the owner answered, she took one look at my shirt and she said, "Oh, I know why you're here. Come and let me show you where it is."
  21. When this year's census has been completed, we will then have 50 new COP marks to search for(after they are set). Does anyone know how many years ago they started setting these marks? I noticed a couple in this thread which used the 1990 census.
  22. They must be really backed up. Thanks for checking.
  23. According to today's New York Times, a new Geocaching merit badge can now be earned by any Boy Scout.
