  1. I am interested in making glass geocoins and was hoping that some of you might be able to give a suggestion or two. The design will be inscribed using sand blasting, but I am not sure what to use as a blank. In other words, where do I find a glass disk that is about 2" in diameter with very flat faces. It would be best if the faces and the edge are polished. I found a manufacturer in China that will make them for me at a decent price, but they want me to buy a large quantity and shipping is a bit steep. Does anyone know anything that I can use off the shelf?

Just call up any glass shop in your area. They use a diamond hole saw to cutout holes in glass/mirrors for electrical outlets. The size will be either 2" or 2 1/4" dia.

We used to throw the "plugs" out all the time. It's the hole we wanted. :)

Typically the thickness would be 3/16" or 1/4" depending on the material used.

    Good luck!

  2. That's it! Thanks. So it is called the Mystery Puzzle coin? It must not be what people are referring to when they ask about "Mystery" coins then. Or is it?

I think what most people are calling Mystery Coins are the coins released without any knowledge of who created them. Some of the more well known coins have been "The Great Geo-Pumpkin", The Geocoin Fairy" and "G.O'Coin B.U.G. Esquire".

  3. Is geocoincollection.com going away as well?

The online store is separate from the Trading Gallery. We have not made any decision yet. We have been giving current members some free time to take them into the new year, where we will make a decision at that time.

    Thank you.

I guess the "free time" is up as I see my account has expired and I am being asked to pay some money. Does that mean the geocoincollection is definitely staying around?

I'm not meaning to harass or antagonize, but there are a couple of things that do annoy me about geocoincollection.com at and administrative level. It is annoying as I never get any updates as to the state of my account (about to expire, etc) OR letting me know what is happening geocoincollection. A number of times I've come across posts that the database is going to be moved or radically overhaul posted some months earlier. As a paying customer I would like to hear this type of thing on a email please.

*** We will be launching our new site in a few weeks. Our forums are really the best place to keep up with any news regarding the Trading Gallery, as we don't visit this forum too often. We have a link in the header of every page at GeocoinCollection.com to take you to our forums & recent news.

We did notify all current members via email on the status of the new gallery. We were also happy to extend anyone's account to the end of Jan. (for free) All they had to do was ask. We have since stopped doing that due to the new gallery open date right around the corner.

    Thank you!

  4. How was your holiday Mekle? How is the contributor aspect going?

No pressure, just wanted to keep this thread alive. :)

I saw that there is some risk that one of the collection sites (with many pictures) may not be around much, so I've been looking at options to help fill some of that potential gap too.

If this is in regards to our GeocoinCollection.com Trading site, not to worry. We are working on a new version. We are in beta testing right now, and will make the new version public in just a few weeks.

  5. I have done what was needed to use the artwork. These will also not be mistaken for real coins seeing as the plating and color enamel.

Can you give us some more details? I thought the US Mint trademarked those designs.

    Thanks!

  7. Send me an email, I'll get you setup for a free year on our trading gallery. We also offer a free tracking service to help you sort out your trades.

    welcome to geocoin collecting!

Thanks guys wish I could run but to be honest It hit me like the two step snake. I have set up a generic looking tradelist, but it should serve its purpose. and you can view it below. Hopefully Ill find my first trade soon!

    My Tradelist

  8. Good luck. There used to be a great list that was started by Vargseld!, but that has morphed into something that is now completely unsortable and which also contaains inaccurate information.

Are you talking about the Monster List of Geocoins Minted?

  9. The coins were removed from the trade list days ago. I think we have beaten this horse to a pulp. If you have any issues with the people who made your coin, take it up with them. Go back and read your contracts with them.

I don't believe the issue with the collectors is just that they were being traded, it's also the fact they EXIST without the customer's knowledge.

  10. *snip

Second (and far more likley) it is our practice for each of the three partners of the Geocoin Club to receive 5 un-numbered coins of every coin we produce for their portfolio/use..

    *snip

It was already disclosed that they each got 5. (5 coins each X 3 is 15 coins)

Anthus, I would like to make some corrections with the above. Each one of the members is not getting 15 coins they are only getting 2-4 coins each. And the reason Bjorn74 has not replied is because he has been busy with his job and his family and has not been able to answer his emails so that is why he has not answered his emails and not because he is not wanting to talk.

Did Bjorn74 request you to pass this information on to us?

    Just curious...

  11. I am looking for a cheap geocoin option for multiple cache giveaways and have found that stores such as oakcoins would not really be cost effective if I was going to keep on giving them away. Also I would like coins that could fit in micros. I have found geocoins.net and thay do a really cheap option of 10 wooden and personalised geocoins for $6.50. Are they a good company have any of you had past experiences with them i.e ordered from them etc.??? I would be grateful for your comments

    I'm a little partial, but I like geocoins.net :(

You may want to inquire about setup fees. We don't charge any setup fees for our stock designs. I can't speak for the other folks as I have never ordered anything from them.

Private message me for additional info as I don't want to turn this thread into a commercial announcement.

  12. Although I find this somewhat humorous, I think the image of explosives in a cache may not be the best image to put out there... just my .02 cents.

Well, here is my next project..

All the things we would love to do to those Geocoin thieves...

Back of coin is a STOP sign and the front are some humorous images !!

    Coin will be 1.5"

    trackable at geocaching.com

I need some input on coin # 3

and what metals I should use

I am planning an icon also..

    of course
