A Freindly Reminder to all:The season is changing and many of the fun geocoins and TB's need to keep moving to another cache. Thought I'd remind all geocachers new to this or old pros that if you have created a cache, (1) please check them (2)and the surroundings, and (3)make sure all of the coins or TB's in your cache(s) are moving.
We have some coins and TB's out there (in Illinios, Minnesota and Wisconsin) that have not moved for sometime. Some due to sticky fingers, that have walked off with the coin(s) and were never logged- that they have them. Others have moved, but maybe you have forgotten to keep them moving- check your swag and get them moving again... Finally, if you see some not moving, take them and place them in another cache to get them moving again! The days are getting shorter and the coin(s) or TB's might get stuck if they don't have a chance to move towrds their goals.
Winterize caches if you can or make sure all TB's and coins are out and are in more easily accessable caches for winter. This way all can still enjoy watching thier coins andTB's move on thier great journey!

I've done a similar type of activity with kids of that age but with a much shorter time schedule. I had access to 22 E-Trex units. What I did was hide about 12 temp caches with different levels of difficulties to find. I pre-programed the coords on each GPS, which were also numbered. The kids were put with a partner and given a GPS after they were instructed about geocaching and how a GPS worked (about 10 minutes). Then I sent the kids out to find a simple cache. Each cache had little stickers in that the kids collected and put on their name tags when they found the cache. After finding the cache, they would come back to our central meeting place and get a different GPS with their choice of an easy or hard find. Several of the caches were very camouflaged and micros to large containers. All of the caches were within .1 mile from the meeting place (part of a Y camp facility). Some kids found 7 of the caches in about 30 minutes. All of the other kids not in the activity wanted to know how to get the nametag stickers, especially the older kids that at first were "too cool" to be doing the little kid's activities. I even had to find more stickers and rehide some caches for all of the kids that wanted to do it during their free time. Because of the time constraints, I spent very little time explaining the connection between GPSrs and the Internet, TBs, logging finds, etc. At the end of the activity I gave each kid that wanted one a handout explaining a lot more about geocaching. Since then I have had parents calling me to find out more about it, coming to their churches or schools and doing the presentation again. I have also been told I will do the activity again next year. It was the hit of the weekend camp.

Two others are PVC containers, one large, one small, both covered with birch bark. The last one is a log split the long way, hollowed out and hinged, with a small PVC tube inside. They look pretty good.
Here ya go. - How did you do that with the birch bark?
I glued the bark to the PVC using Gorilla glue. First I had to peel thin strips off off some dead and downed trees I found near our house. I also used hose clamps and rubber bands to hold the bark on the PVC while the glue dried.

Here are a couple of pics of a series of caches I will be putting out tomorrow. They will all be scattered on islands in a northcentral Wisconsin river. The theme in all of the hints pops up as "Son of a birch . . .". I've been working on them off and on for about 6 months.

The last one is a log split the long way, hollowed out and hinged, with a small PVC tube inside. They look pretty good.

Here it is November and no replies. I too, am a high school teacher and fairly new to geocaching. I introduced it to students via a mini-course we offered over a one week period this fall. I was going to present this to a group of 7-8th graders, but due to surgery I couldn't. My students did the presentation for me and did great. I'm thinking of forming a club and dispersing several caches with the students. Our students come from a radius of about 60 miles, some even more, so the potential for several caches in different communities is good. My next goal is to get the students to put together some containers, swag, and order some TB tags. I think I willalso approach some of the stores in the area (Walmart, Gander, Best Buy) to see if they would be willing to donate a GPSr or two for us. Any other ideas out there?
Lost Geocoins and TB's What to do?

My question is: Do the lost ones ever appear on ebay or for sale if they have been registered as trackable?What have you done to find them? What if some of the coins ended up in the floods? Any thoughts on that?
It also seems as if their has been someone taking coins and TB's from our area not just ours, but not all are missing. So it seems as if the more desirable are being taken. I'm trying to be positive about this. Otherwise, I don't want to cause alarm, but I am wondering is it muggles out to destroy a good thing or someone who likes certain coins and not willing to follow the rules!
Your thoughts please.
