  1. I wanted to bump this since I just got a Venture CX from them for about $160 with shipping... They had the best price, I placed the order on Wednesday, no expedited shipping, and got the unit today (2 days later). As for the price, I think it's 168 or something now, with 9.99 shipping, but if you use Google checkout for the first time you get $10 back from them. Seemed to work out ok. Can't wait to get home and mess with the new unit. -Ed-
  2. Nevermind..."Works as designed" Quoth the Bill, nevermore. Looks like S & T 2007 doesn't have the same issue?
  3. Folks, MS Streets and Trips limits the size of the map file I create and copy to my PDA (e.g. I can only load LA and Orange Counties on one map) even though the file size is about 8MB (we have a 1GB card). I'd like to plan a trip from Orange County to the Bay Area, but don't want to load different maps every hundred miles or so. Does anyone know a way to load larger files into the PDA using Pocket Streets? Also, if I zoom out too far, it closes the app. Discuss Thanks, Eisen...
  4. Do the map programs let you load different areas into your gps? Can I split the memory into a couple major areas (say SF and LA)? Also, if I want to have streets loaded for Orange County, can I load them later with another area, or is it like unliking one metro area at a time? Thanks! -Ed-
  5. Larry, First, check the setup on the GPS and make sure it's using the correct protocol. Some programs require the GPS be set to NMEA and some like the GARMIN default. Next, make sure you don't have any other applications using the COM ports. Common mistakes are the Palm Sync software, modem stuff, and so on. Finally, make sure you have selected the correct COM port in the application. If you fail to connect on COM1, try the next one down. Let us know some more details and there might be more fixes... -Ed-
  6. Create a pocket Query to run periodically specifying only caches placed in the past 7 days. SB, neat idea, but how? In the PQ options this is what is listed: I haven't found I have found I don't own I own Are for members only Are not on my ignore list Are on my watch list Found in the last 7 days Have not been found Have Travel Bugs Updated in the last 7 days Is Not Active Is Active If I chose "Updated in last 7 days" I would get not just new ones, but anything that was updated, right?
  7. Adding to this thread, has anyone discussed a pocket query or regular email that has the newly published caches in a gpx? I think it would be neat to get them all at once in that format rather than having to put them together one at a time, or has that been addressed and I just missed it?? Thanks, -Ed-
  8. [hijack] Do I understand correctly, that maps can be loaded onto an eTrex yellow? I understand it would be limited hugely by the memory, but what program(s) do I need to accomplish this? Thanks, -Ed- [/hijack]
  9. Clicky As seen in Celebrity Living Weekly!
  10. On that case, I would check the interface mode. I know that EasyGPS likes the setting to be "Garmin" and Streets and Trips (for example) likes NMEA, so I have to switch between the two. Check your GPS settings screen to see which you have, and compare that to what GSAK likes. -Ed- Edit...how do you like the 301? I've been watching those for the magnetic compass and stuff. Seems like a hoot.
  11. Box, It sounds like there is another program using the same port at the same time. I wonder if the Garmin program that updates your gps s/w is keeping the port open. Check the little icons by the clock in the lower right hand corner of your task bar. As you hover over each of those with your cursor, it should pop up and tell you what they are. If you get to one that uses a COM port (like palm desktop, or Garmin's web update), right click and choose "exit"...then try to connect with Easy GPS. Just a thought. -Ed-
  12. You might want to hold off on the crackberry until they get the lawsuit thingy worked out. Just a thought. -Ed-
  13. Yes, but if another rider was coming down 4.2 miles/hour faster than your rate of travel, and their mass was only 75% of yours, what color bike shorts would they be wearing?
  14. Werd. Generates a Parse Error.
  15. DougT, Do you already have a cable for your GPSr? If not, most cables on eBay will include an adapter. If you already have a cable, then you can get just the adapter there, as well. -Ed-
  16. One of my co-workers used google earth to find caches (sans gps). I like the terrain feature, and if you have the "roads" checked you can sometimes find a trailhead or parking that might not otherwise be known. -Ed-
  17. Duckit, To answer your question, some Palms use and internal / rechargeable battery (like my Palm V) and some use AAA's (like my m100). It's mostly personal preference, but I like being able to swap out the batteries on the m100 if it dies mid-cache. If the Palm V dies, not much I can do except wait for it to charge back up. But it's totally up to ones own preference. -Ed-
  18. It sounds like you just need to either rename the new filename, or delete the old one. Geocaching.com will always try to save the .loc file with a default file name, but you can choose whichever name you like. I would suggest saving more than one waypoint for each loc file (see the check boxes along the right on search results) and then name that file something relevant (like "NearWork.loc" or "Jan18.loc") that way you can find it easier next time you want. I don't know about the map-plotting, so I'll let someone else cover that. -Ed-
  19. The CacheMate I got came with a cmconvert.exe which seems to work pretty well moving the gpx to a pdb. It will pull them straight from the .zip file if you want and it has a decent GUI interface as well. -Ed-
  20. Best quote ever!!! It made me ell oh ell.
  21. I started with a Garmin Geko 101 and it worked great save for the fact I couldn't connect it to my computer. I also use a borrowed eTrex (Yellow) and that performs fantastically. They retail at about $89 at Target, Amazon, etc... and a great way to see if the sport will "stick" in your life. -Ed-
  22. I use an eTrex and MS Streets and Trips. Works great for me. -Ed-
