  1. O.K., I have been observing e-mails concerning this issue, and I had intended to stay out of it, however, I believe I need to weigh in on the subject. Personally, I am not opposed to micro's in general. I have done many micro's which I found challenging and interesting. I have placed a couple of micro's myself in fact. However, I feel that micro's should be placed in a location that is 1) interesting, and 2) not conducive to regular caches. Having said that, 1 of my micro's could probably be replaced with a regular cache, but I brought people to the location for the view and did not want people tramping all over looking for a regular cache. I have in fact looked for Granpa A's micro's, found 1 and signed the log, but did not log it on the page. My reason is that the method of the hide involved "Modifying" a part of the property concealing it. I don't think this is acceptible. Several of the locations place me outside of office buildings with large mirrored glass windows. I can't see in, but people can most assuredly see out. I don't know who is watching, and frankly I don't wish to draw attention while caching. One cache is apparently, (I didn't actually locate it, but I was close enough to be pretty sure,) on a guardrail immediately adjacent to a very busy road, with NO nearby point of interest. Two others were in residential areas, again, no point of interest, and easily scrutinized by the local muggle population. Now, I don't want to discourage Grandpa A from wanting to cache in our backyard, in fact, he is apparently from here and therefore my neighbor, though he currently resides elsewhere. I'm glad he feels that he wants to place caches here, and I welcome him. I just hope that he (or anyone else in this situation,) would choose to re-evaluate placement methods and try to adhere to local custom, per se. It is my understanding that he has already made some concessions in this regard, and that modifications either have been made or are in the works. For this, I complement him. It is NOT my intention to stir this up anymore than necessary, or to alienate anyone in the caching community. I just thought it was time to make my opinion public. Hope to see you all on the trail, John.
  2. I just go to the TB page for that TB, go to OPTIONS, print BUG SHEET and add a copy. It just has the info about the bug and it's goals. Is this bad etiquette? Should I NOT do that without contacting the owner? I guess I never thought aabout it that way. Perhaps in my effort to improve something, I have in fact committed a faux pas!
  3. O.K., maybe I'm screwing up here, but I'm new to the forums and I probably don't know any better. I get so irritated when I go to a cache specifically to pick up a TB and it's not there, not logged, MIA. I usually try to figure out who grabbed it, if recent enough, and I check their stats. I often find that it is NEW geocachers who may have found their first TB and don't know what to do with it. I often e-mail those who show in the cache log or on the page that they have taken the bug, but have not logged on the TB page. I try to explain or offer help and almost NEVER get a response. I have started to print the Bug page and put it in a zip-lock bag with TB's that pass thru my hands. People just need to know what to do with them or the system breaks down. Forums are GREAT, but those responsible for this problem probably don't read the forums either. Anyway, I guess I just needed to vent a little.
  4. This is directed to BRDAD, IRT PD0709. A comment on "Is this a find." If you read the description of the benchmark closely, you will see that the benchmark is actually the "FINIAL" atop the lighthouse. I have seen benchmarks which were lights atop towers, etc. As long as you can see what is specified as the benchmark, you can log it as found. They are not all, inscribed brass discs.
