  1. Ok, I talked to the guy this morning. No 60 Cx's, but he says he has almost all of the other Cx's that Garmin makes...he also has the explorist 100 for 75 and the 300 for 115. He also had some legends and some 400 and 500's. I talked to the manager in charge of pricing and he says that things are marked down right now to clear out the inventory, so these prices likely won't last. He does not have any 210's left.
  2. Ok, here's the deal. A store by me has "slap tagged" all the returned GPS units. I know that So. MN is not convenient to everyone and it seems a shame to let those good prices go to waste. I can't give exact models and prices, but I can give examples. Generally these units are returns and most work fine, they are guaranteed by Cabelas for 30 days, but I will not guarantee them if I buy them for people.... Examples of prices that I have seen: Explorist 210 - $60, Garmin 60 (b/w) - $130-$150 Does anyone have something that they are looking for that I can keep an eye out for?
  3. I just got one last weekend, new in the package for $60 with an offer for the mapsend topo for $9.99...so far it's been fine...I think, it was doing something funny with the light on the other night, but I was supposed to be paying attention to something else, so I was distracted and am not entirely sure what was going on.
  4. Thanks for all of the fantastic advice...I think I should have clarified in my original email that we needed something that uses addresses....not coordinates....anything like that out there?
  5. I am on a Fire Department that has begun to look into using GPS for directions (kind of a rural area and there are a lot of roads that start and stop without notice). Any ideas? I thought maybe something on a laptop, but then they have to have one for each truck...is there any good PDA/Software combos that might work? I know that auto re-route is an absolute must.... Thanks in advance.
  6. The box says this thing is WAAS compatible. Do I have to enable it somewhere or is is automatic? I just bought the 2nd of these that I have owned yesterday and remember one of the reasons I took the first one back...it doesn't want to zoom in closer than 100 ft....that's a big area! If I need to enable it, I can't find the menu that has that option. Can anyone offer some words of wisdom?
  7. If there is anyone that lives in MN and may be interested in Explorist 210's, drop me a line...I just got a great deal on one and I think they had two left.
  8. OK, I need to put in my two cents worth...I know virtually nothing about PDA's, but I can vouch for The Battons. I emailed the guy with more questions about PDA's and paperless caching than he probably thought possible...he took the time to answer each question...very carefully explaining everything...I then hit him with several more rounds of questions...each getting a very good answer. Bought a PDA on a Friday and received it on Monday before noon and have been paperless caching ever since...he's a great resource when you have questions and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand what you are getting before you get it and then how it works afterwards...to me...5-10-15 bucks more is worth it to know what I am getting with a guarantee that it will work when it gets here and if it doesn't, he'll do everything he can to make it work! He's great to work with (and no, I don't know him personally...he lives halfway across the country).
  9. When we bought my dad one of these when they were new, it was only $150. When he lost it, he wanted another one because he already knew how to work it....we got one in mint conditions for $25.
  10. I bought a Magellan Roadmate from this forum less than a month ago. I brought it into work and played with it for a few days before putting it away (it's supposed to be a Christmas present for myself from my young child). I live in an area where these are not commonplace in vehicles because they aren't really needed, but I wanted one anyway because we do a lot of traveling and I figured it would be fun to have. Well, one of the people that I work with was pretty impressed as well. He is very interested in purchasing a mobile unit, but doesn't really want to spend the several hundred or more that they run new. Does anyone have one of these sitting around not getting much use? I don't think the brand is so important, more the condition and the price..... let me know and I'll pass it on to him to consider. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!
  11. I can't help except to offer advice. I just got a neoprene case for my Magellan Roadmate from a guy on Ebay....it is awesome. If you are interested, I will try to track him down....mine cost about $16 including shipping.
  12. Thanks for all the great info. It would seem to cost almost as much to buy a serial port to USB adapter as it would to buy an older model PDA with the USB already built in. That being said, anyone have one they'd like to sell to me? I thought I found a prism on ebay for $10...apparently a couple of others were watching it too... I have an offer for a Handspring deluxe with a backup module and a game for $15...problem is no manual or dock. Here is what I am looking for. Some sort of PDA with a USB connection. If it has a recharging cradle that would be awesome, but only if it has a wall plug in too. I am not really picky on the color, but would like something in awesome shape (no scratches or chips), something that works like it's supposed to and something that I can figure out how to use (so instructions would be great). I would like to keep it around $20-$30, but if something is out there that looks like it's exactly what I am looking for, I am willing to spend more (just don't tell the hubby). Can anyone help me out?
  13. OK, I will be the first to admit that in recent years my ability to keep up with technology has seriously suffered, so I gave up trying to keep up. I have started to find that some of the stuff I decided not to keep up with is pretty fun to play with. I have decided paperless caching is going to be my new thing. My husband has an old Palm m100...will that work for this? If not, I need a decent PDA at a decent price to get started, anyone have one they'd like to sell to me? I think I kind of like the prism, but really anything that works, is in good shape and is at the right price I would be interested in. I looked mostly at Handsprings because of what a previous post talked about with USB's...I don't think I have a serial port and I'm pretty sure work doesn't want me playing with the IR on my laptop....can anyone help me please!!!!!!??????
  14. I just wanted to post that the Roadmate has arrived and it seems to be pretty awesome (I still have to take it on a test run). The Cacheoholic is awesome to work with. I sent payment late Friday afternoon and the GPS arrived Monday before noon...from PA to MN!!!!! AWESOME!
  15. OK, it comes with the software and the other maps you will load for me right? Also, I PM'd you. I have training tonight, but will check this computer again before I go home....I look forward to hearing from you.
  16. Oh....does the price include shipping and does it come with any memory cards? I almost have my husband talked into it.....
  17. Ok, can you explain more about the software? I am new to the GPS (in cars) world and don't know a lot about them. You said it had detailed maps...does that include all the little side streets and roads and such, or just the main roads and freeways? Is this the one with the touch screen and does it have the voiced turns? More importantly, if you miss a turn, does it automatically reroute you? I may just buy it for myself, then I don't have to worry about a spending limit....merry christmas to me.....
  18. I read a couple of reviews on this unit and it sounds like it is full of glitches and software issues and everything. Does this particular unit function OK? Also, does it come with any mapping software? I might be interested in it as a gift for my dad...but we have a christmas spending limit of $100...let me know if that is something you might consider.
  19. I may be interested in this. Is it in good shape, let me know.
  20. I am curious as to whether I should stick with Garmin (I have an old 12 and a Map76) or switch to Magellan and have one of each. I posted a similar question yesterday and realized that people have definate preferences.
  21. I don't know what's wrong with my 76...I don't know that anything is wrong with it. I just know that when I am out and about, I get all turned around in the menus and can't find what I am looking for. I suppose I could actually read the manual, but I used an eTrex legend side by side with this one and was able to get it to do exactly what I wanted it to and I had never even picked the legend up before....
