  1. She speaks the truth. We plan to roll out a program this week to enable bulk purchases for groups.
  2. I've been looking at golf ball displays. These would serve a dual purpose for me but someone mentioned that a golf ball display has nice little dimples normally used to put a golf ball in that a coin rests just nicely in and leans against the back. Anyone use one of these? Before Christmas I saw them everywhere, now that I want to find one to look at - nada. Gah!
  3. The proof image came today. It's in for review with the Nevada group. Barring any issues - won't be long now.
  4. There's a pinned topic that points to this thread.
  5. Tentative sale date for the Fraher coin is 1/15. Schedule TBA.
  6. In the hopes of taking some heat off the NV coin situation and at the risk of sounding commercial, I'd like to share that the full NV Desert coin design has been completed, reviewed with Geocaching.com, tracking codes are on order, and production of the proof will start next week after the New Year holiday. We are working with the NV guys on the sale and will provide an access code that will be provided by email or other means to those who initially purchased the coins, giving you exclusive access to the sale for a period of time (period TBD). The sale date has not yet been scheduled, but will be announced in the next 2 weeks once we know when the full production will be complete.
  7. Where did you get that one? That looks about like what I want. But like I said - I'm not so handy. Making one myself isn't really an option.
  8. Geocoins are beautiful things to behold and to hold. I've never had a coin that I worried about handling too much. They're all pretty robust things I'd have them all out of their sleeves if they didn't clank together in my box But I digress I assume you made that shelf? I'm not so handy. To CO's point, I did swing by the only coin shop near me and showed them a few of my coins They looked at me like I had fourteen eyes and then told me they didn't stock displays Gah
  9. wanna sell me the old one I think having 100 or so out at a time would be ideal. It'd be kind of fun to cycle them on display Get to touch them and admire them as you shuffle them now and again. That's the other downshot of the fancy spinning display is that to change them out you either need a spinning thing for every coin or you have to mess with the individual coin thing to do it. Ever try to get a coin out of an airtite? I'm imagining the same process for those.
  10. It looks fantastic, that's what originally drew my eye to it. But to display even 100 coins in that would cost about $375 for the racks. Too rich for my blood. I'm " that close to going out, buying a nice frame at Target, a thin, thin foam pad from somewhere, cutting the pad to fit the frame and then getting one of those scrapbooking cutters that will cut circles of various sizes. Then just cutting holes for the coins to rest in, put it all in the frame and hang it. I figure doing it that way would cost about $30 if I get a cheap frame and I could probably do 100 a frame. I'm just lazy like this I'd really rather buy something if I can. I used to collect (believe it or not) dollar tokens from Casinos and had the same idea then. I still have those in a box somewhere too
  11. What I'm waiting for is a trading place that does a more "full featured" trading function. I'm probably cruising for a bad rep on some trades. Get busy, drop the ball on a coin now and again. I'd like to see something more like XXXX where you list a coin as available, someone can make an offer for another coin, you accept, and it shows up on a "my trades" page where you can just print off the coins and mailing addresses you need to send them to. I do okay with my list, but that would be the cat's meow. The only way it'd be better is if that same feature let you print off labels onto an avery template via PDF file or something. Click, print, ship. That would be awesome. I use cointracking.com and like it a lot. The trading feedback is something I thought would be cool and they just recently added it.
  12. I look at the codes on all the coins I get hoping they'll spell something I haven't gotten one yet, but I've seen codes that spell things like "TREE", etc. Have never seen consequetive codes before and it's definitely a one in a million thing that you'd get both.
  13. Search feature appears to be down so I'll just ask. I got some money for Christmas and have been wondering what to do with it. Was saving it for the (rumored) 60CSx when it comes out, but then saw the BOX of coins sitting on my desk which constitutes my "collection". Rather than having a notebook or something to put them in to take them to events, I'd like to display them on the wall in my office. I've been googling and searching on XXXX for displays and thought I'd check here before buying one I found on the free market in case either someone here makes them or someone here has found something really great The coolest I found was this: http://militarychallengecoins.com/patent/ I don't neccesarily care about the spinning display, but it is interesting. Feels too expensive though. The other good displays I'm finding for 50+ coins are like $150-$200. I don't need an heirloom Just something to put on my wall with 2.5 inch gaps between rows and a groove to lay the coin in. I'd like the wall mounted stuff. The desktop displays are easier to find, but I just like the idea of having them hanging. I don't intend to transport my collection. I just want to enjoy them and thumbing through a pile in a box seems to be a really bad option. Looking for something better. Would have searched but like I said... Thanks for input in advance.
  14. Both sides are done and the coin is tentatively schedule to be available in late January. Waiting on final consensus among the groups before kicking production into high gear.
  15. I'll buy now. I don't care if it's not released until 2007, I'll still buy now. And I own a 60CS. I'll buy the first day they're available. This is the holy grail folks.
  16. We've re-launched the web site in preparation for really gearing up to July. Seems early, but Christmas will be here and gone before you know it and whala - then comes JULY. Right? It'll seem like it, trust me. So everyone start getting ready for the wildest week of geocaching fun. Start asking for time off (I have my week in already) and save up to send that non-caching SO on a cruise or something so you can come party your head off with hundreds of other cachers from all over the midwest, United States, and world. http://www.midwestgeobash.org
  17. I haven't kept my thumb on the emerging technology this year as in past years. Wondering what everyone's reccomendations would be for holiday gift wishlists?
  18. Here's a thread from the wayback machine about something similar. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...topic=45433&hl= I think someone with enough engineering gumption could make a really interesting run at an independant open source GPS. Heck, the internals wouldn't even have to be open source, but if you could put together a receiver with basic function running on something that could support XP embedded or some such (or embedded linux) and then provide an SDK to developers... I think you'd have a spitfire idea. Put a USB port in it and an IR port and you'd then enable developers like Clyde, etc. to build applets for it that either integrate to GSAK or perhaps someday even to GC.com. The IR port is a common feature request I hear a lot these days as people cache in groups more and more. They want to be able to "beam" waypoints to each other so you can quickly swag and add waypoints. I don't think you'd even need a color screen. And in fact, I think this could be a very competitive GPS to the major guys if built rugged and with expandable memory of some sort.
  19. A new website is in the works so we can start taking RSVPs and camping reservations. Along with it will come a lot of tasty tidbits about what's going down at GB06. Sweet stuff Stay tuned.
  20. As a matter of course, the MiGO board also prefers to keep "preliminary" discussions and informaiton close to their chest while in active convesations about caching with the DNR and then to announce things when they are finalized. The DNR has come to trust MiGO and uses the group in the way it was intended - as a single point of contact between their group and the cachers of Michigan. If the DNR in MN is using the MnGCA the same way... I can only say that you're very lucky. It's been extremely effective in Michigan. So I don't actually think it's entirely unusual. It's a tough line to walk. But not altogether suprising to me.
  21. I feel compelled to reply to this. I replied to the email quoted here on 10/31 with information about the status of the coin code but we must have missed each other. Just to clarify - GeocoinClub.com did not make the coin, we are only listing the codes for the people who did as a free service. In this particular instance, the code is an error and was noted as such on the log of the geocache it was found it. GeocoinClub.com provides free code retrieval for many groups and coin makers. What we see is that from time to time the codes on the coins are actually typoed by the minter when they are engraved. That is what happened in this instance. It's a rare occurance (1 in 1500 or more) but it happens from time to time when you've got random codes being engraved on coins. We'll assist you in any way possible to retrieve the code, but in the event of a typo we have no way to assist with returns or exchanges on coins from other people/groups.
  22. Probably already been said, but beware "RARE" coins. Some of them aren't so rare. The ones I know off the top of my head are the MiGO coins, regular edition. They will be back in stock in the MiGO store in mid-November at the regular price of $7.00 + shipping. They are going for $28+ on Ebay. Anyone with patience can get 4 for that in about 3 weeks. The seasonals *are* rare, only 100 of each were minted this year.
  23. TigerGPS.com has new 60CS's for $376.81 with no rebates to deal with. I bought my 60CS from them back when it was pre-order and still think they are great. They have the C for $334.93. I'd probably save the extra bucks and get the C if I were to do it again. I haven't used the compass in ages. I used to think it helped, but I get along just fine without it and am too lazy to calibrate it
  24. Thanks for all the great replies. It had dawned on me after posting that I could get Mapopolis (I used to be a heavy user prior to my 60CS days) for my Treo and then possibly some kind of small external GPS with a wire. It looks like I have the following choices: - Magellan with loads of memory and mediocre routing, but in my budget - Higher end Garmin/Magellan/Other auto GPS which does exactly what I want, but is a lot more spendy - Mapopolis or similar on my Treo with external GPS Pros and cons abound To get double the memory with essentially the same function, I'm considering the (I think) 76CS. I think that's the squarish one with 115MBish of memory. I got to San Francisco, Boston, and Chicago this week with what I have in the 60CS by being a bit more precise with the maps I load. I'm wondering if I can squeeze one more city in if I have to It may be a squeeker. My motivation is that I'm so tired of the Magellan Everlosts. At the very least I need a backup for times like this week when the Everlost just up and died in the middle of a trip and never came back.
