  1. Looks like all servers are up and running. No change was made to the geocoinclub site at all (yet) so if it worked two days ago it should work now.
  2. As an organizer, I'd appreciate hearing the details alluded to previously - but privately. Please direct any comments to info@midwestgeobash.org and they will be kept confidential. Any such input helps us in our planning year to year. I think it's safe to assume we won't be persuing any Indiana State Parks for a variety of reasons. So the "why not SP" discussion can cease. I also don't think we need to defend the MWGB so vigorously in this thread. If you've been - you know it's a stand up event. Can events that size get away without any incidents? Of course not. But in the scope of large events - we behave very well. We were told so by each year's venue operators. So on with the possible venue discussion. Things I'm personally looking for as far as venue are: - An exclusive venue like the 2006 venue - Preferably camping on site, preferably managed by said venue - Preferably easy access to highways to ease travel - Preferably closer to the middle area of the Midwest to make it more accessible to more Midwest cachers. - Preferably with ample hotels and other facilities nearby for food, ice, etc. - Preferably with water feature to cool off in on site or very close by - MUST have indoor facilities onsite or available very close by - MUST offer some kind of concessions - Preferably provide all facilities if they have camping (i.e. toilets, showers, etc.)
  3. No "official" names (someone also wrote in to ask what is officially "front" and "back" on each - again... nothing official) for the coins. We put what we think are probably the best taglines/names for them on the August contest coin which lists each of the 12 coins that have (or will be) issued.
  4. Fire off any candidate locations to info@midwestgeobash.org!
  5. in the "between time" from the 2006 event to the 2007 event, you can keep up to date on what's happening at http://www.midwestgeobash.org There's a link there to sign up for our newsletter which we will send out... someday Next year's venue is going to depend largely on finding a place that can host the size of event we expect in 2007 and within our fairly limited budget. We're now taking applications for our "Double Secret Platinum" level $1 million sponsors if anyone is interested
  6. We got that copycat from the Staples commercial. Save your money people. That's all I can say. The icon will be updated ASAP.
  7. Maybe this is in another thread too, but how do you load map data to a card reader? My mapsource locks to the GPS and I've locked it to two GPS units... so can I still fire off the maps to a card reader somehow?
  8. You can keep your caches as both POI and waypoints too. I keep all my nearby stuff that I'm likely to do as waypoints. But having the ability to load in many at a time is useful. For instance, I get all the caches in my state over a week-long set of queries. It's useful because I can point to an area on my map screen and do a search for caches nearby. Plus I travel frequently on business, often on short notice. I'd be nice to keep 500 caches from each city I regularly visit always loaded, but that'd be 3000 points alone. So I don't need those as waypoints since if I find some on a trip like that it'll be 3 or 4 at a time and sort of just as the opportunity arises. From that standpoint, it's really nice. The limited zoom is annoying, but in your typical area you can get around that by loading the caches into your waypoints vs. the POI. I also like the extra data you can stuff into a POI. So even if you don't need the extra waypoints, the extra space for hints, etc. is great.
  9. Truth. We got the second batch of good coins in and will ship asap starting Monday.

  11. The LEs sold out in 12 seconds. Hands on your buzzers. Watch which button you click.
  12. The fast official skinny: - The coins arrived a while ago - We immediately shipped to members-only slale participants - We shortly afterward discovered that every coin had been mis-engraved by our vendor - We stopped shipments and expected replacements in a week - Replacements are coming in several shipments, the first already mailed to thsoe with bum coins. - Tomorrow I find out what coins arrived at our shipping depot, I expect more MiGO 2006 to be in that batch. - They will ship immediately. - If you are a registered user, your shipping status in the account summary is always accurate. The delay is not typical and we had expected to get the coins back much sooner than it's been. We hoped to miss the ship date by only a few days so did not post any updates. Given the now long delay - that's the skinny. Ben (who answers support emails) has been out of commission this week and I'm trying like heck to keep up with the emails. Apologies for any communication delays.
  13. Misty is like a satin finish. Antique is kind of blackened up a little. This is silver with a matte or satin finish.
  14. I will be listing these online tonight. They will start selling at 9:30pm tomorrow night. If you want to buy bulk the instructions are in the coin description The coins have been in for a week, so they will ship immediately starting on Monday. Edit: The coins are $6.00 each and there are plenty to go around. So if you don't get your bulk request in within the first 5 mins of the sale, don't fret Edit2: Just posted it. http://www.geocoinstore.com/viewfullcoinde...n.php?coinid=47
  15. Agree "TFTC" from me means a) it was one in a long line of unmemorable micros or I didn't like it. If I actually type a custom log, you know I enjoyed it a lot.
  16. GPSBabel is this often overlooked keystone of electronic waypoint processing. Robert does everyone a huge service by keeping this great tool up to date.
  17. also, has anyone messed with the proximity alert stuff? That's been a long time wishlist item for me. All the caches on a proximity alert just so I know. I selected the option and loaded the caches in one big file, but when I go to the proximity alert screen it shows none configured. [edit: Well I can see what happened now. Instead of getting the extra cache data like I want, it gives me proximity / speed info in the extra space. Read some other threads. The info. is kind of scattered in here, eh?]
  18. any news from garmin on the [edit: custom icon] stuff? Any rumors about being able to view your custom POIs like you can set up a seperate zoom thing for your waypoints? This is pretty cool. I love having some of the hint in my GPS. That rocks.
  19. January Signal have been shipped. GAS have been shipped The status indicator was not updated but will be this afternoon. They have been in the mail for several days. I just got mine yesterday in the U.S. Wales is being scheduled. February has not been shipped.
  20. I want to make the following statements. - All coins, including the sample from which the photo on the site was made, were black nickel. It was a conscious decision given the dark theme of that month's wallpaper. - I have the sample and have it right next to a final piece and they are identical save for the code (which was fake on the sample coin). There was no "bait and switch" as has been implied (or maybe... just straight out alleged). - If you take 100 different pictures of a coin with shiny metal finish at 100 different angles and 100 different lighting conditions, it'll look different every time. This effect is magnified on a dark metal coin with dark enamel. - Examine every coin in your collections. I gurantee you'll see minor imperfections in many/most of them. Not limited to the coins produced by our group. - Since its inception the Signal coin has gotten a lot of attention. From the first (inaccurate) insistence that they ALL have the same tracking code, right through to this thread they have been under a microscope. Literally. When you go looking for flaws they are easier to find. I stand by the quality of our coins, which I think are getting pretty mixed reviews here, but which I think are very comparable to the coins being produced and delivered by other minting groups. Obviously the price being paid here was not for the metal, but for the series.
  21. Looks like there are still some up for sale, are they really sold out? They are except the ones that were never paid for. Sometimes people click "buy now" and then for a variety of reasons, do not pay for the coins. However, they are immediately removed from inventory so that there is no over-selling of a coin. Later, they are returned for public sale again. Typically after a coin sells out, it comes in and out of hte store 3-5 more times as teh Buy Now-No Payment cycle creeps along.
  22. Also just went to buy a higher capacity microsd and saw the pre-order on amazon for the 1gig card. If I understand right: - The X series will take them - You may not be able to use the full card capacity due to segment limitations Is that right? I think I'm going to pop for the 1 gig and tough it out with my 64 for another month or so if that's the case.
  23. Where does it store it then and what is the negative implication?
