  1. I enjoy carrying lots of stuff and being prepared for a night or two in the woods if necessary. The extra weight - about 30 lbs depending on how much H20 - also makes for better workout - cardio is one of the reasons I cache.
  2. I have to nominate Psycho Urban Cache #8 Ghost in Ancient Citidel GCT66Z When you look at the photos - you will understand why this cache is actually a real life FP video game experience.
  3. My 8 year old daughter (Beauty_mark) has an amazing sense for cache locations. She likes to be the one to carry the GPSr until about 100' - then she hands off to me and she heads to where she thinks GZ is - more times than not she is dead on.
  4. What if I was to activate a TB and then "dip" it into each cache I have found (in order) by way of a note - not a new find --- so as to go back and capture data on how far I have traveled from cache to cache. Does that ever happen? Has anyone ever done this? Would it work?
  5. I admit it - its alot - but pretty much only when I'm awake - or right after I fall asleep - and then also in the few minutes before I wake up - when I'm having that last minute dream (about caching) that I remember in the morning... that pretty much covers it... Ironically, it's while I'm geocaching that I am most able to think about other stuff
  6. GPS Art is born. That's one way to keep track of your teenagers.
  7. While you may be technically correct Davispak, the "Narmer" cache of 3100 BCE was not ever officially approved, since finding it did require special equipment, including pointy objects.
  8. You will have to give the R a chance to find itself - i.e. there is an intializing process that will take some time the first time. Turn it on, set it outside where it can see the sky - and let it crank for about 30 minutes. That is more than enough time - and you don't have to babysit it for it to do its thing.
  9. Move'm It it were my bug I'd be sending you an email to thank you.
  10. Unless you have attempted a Phsyco Urban Cache by Vinney & Sue, you have no idea how serious they are about the above... I'm attempting #8 this weekend coming up. Me and our team are getting our tetanus, TB boosters, and a course of prophylactic antibiotics out of the way on Tuesday
  11. The call of the cache was overshadowed today by the sound of my kids asking me to "push them on the sled" [We almost never get this kind of snow in MD] The results were the same however, I come home after dark, I'm wet, and tired! (and happy). I will not let such minor accumulation of snow stop me again -
  12. Despite what you have been told about the history of geo caching, I have discovered that the person who was the first ever to hide a cache was BOO RADLEY According to a cacher by the name of "Scout", he (BOO) placed two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain and a knife in the cache [he apparently did this before knives were taboo]. The FTF went to a cacher who apparently signed the log book as "JEM". Who says you can't learn anything by watching TCM? There was a foot of snow here on the East Coast this weekend - shut us out from caching so I was forced to watch old movies. Its all right there - in BLACK AND WHITE! Tonylama
  13. It's amazing - I was contemplating the "cache with kids" issue all week - after a 6 hour geo cache day with my two children (7 and 10) and their two friends (9 and 10). I was hoping to find something on the forum with some words of wisdom on the subject. So I'm happy to see this thread. We had a great day - but I must admit it had its moments. Each of them put at least one foot in the mud up to their knee... Two crying spells over thorns, and the occasional "when are we going to be done..." I think the hardest part is the "extra" time it takes to get in, find the cache, and get out when you have kids in tow. But I can't say no when they ask to go with me and actually want to do something involving the outdoors and exercise. (I even manage to work a little MATH into the process for them ... but they don't realize that yet... Last weekend we picked up a huge bag of trash at and around a cache site. Somone jogging along the trail actually stopped and thanked the kids for cleaning up the trail. You would have thought they had been given a congressional medal - they were so proud!
  14. There is an over the counter product that is essentially a "soap" that you apply BEFORE you go outdoors. I don't recall what the product is called - but I know from others that have used it that its very effective. Ask your pharacist
