  1. Am I wrong in thinking you never "take over" a cache unless the owner has asked you too?
  2. Another option is to look in the regional boards for your area. You might be able to make a friend who you can go with when they go geocaching while you save up for your first GPS.
  3. The eXplorist GC is the entry level model and does not offer turn by turn directions at all. There are some Magellan and non-Magellan handheld GPSr units that do have this feature but they cost more.
  4. Maybe turn your focus from this cache to placing some really quality caches there in China so that others will have more options than you have?
  5. Yes. You might want to read Creating Your First Pocket Query
  6. Here you can see the icons of the Sun and the Moon on the compass face. These icons move depending on where the sun and moon are in the sky. While you are walking or driving the compass points in the right direction. This is why most people try to walk at an even pace in a straight line until the GPS says 0 - 9 feet from geocache, then start looking all over with their eyes instead. Hope the image helps!
  7. Oh! I should probably pass along the upcoming events. I forgot that in the first post. :3 10/April/2011 -Maui GeOhana - April 2011 17/April/2011 - Slippah Pokah Run! 4/June/2011 - WWFM VIII - Iolani Palace Kazoo Band
  8. In very very plain english "N 42° 40.167 W 083° 23.965" is the Longitude and Latitude. They are the numbers you enter into your GPS to find all the cool treasures. If you need more info the people above me posted technical, but none the less very useful, information.
  9. Aloha! I've been stopping in here often and noticed a lot of dedicated threads for various cities and regions, but none for Honolulu, Oahu or even the state of Hawaii. So here we go! I hope that this thread can be a place were people can come to chat about the many geocaches in the state of Hawaii. The island of Oahu alone has some 770+ geocaches as of this posting. If you live here on the islands or are just visiting I hope that you can find answers here. :3 Mahalo!
  10. People like and do things for different reasons. As for paying $30 for a year of premium access; I don't mind paying and I hope plenty of people have jobs and support their families from my hobby. As for the so called over priced shop? Not really. I was actually stunned that my last order had a shipping cost of $1.90 to Hawaii when 99% of companies will milk me for $15.
  11. With SWAG as with Life; Variety is the spice of life. :3 I try to have a variety of swag items as well as some sig. items. Not only of various prices, but of various sizes as well. That said, if you see me about to visit a cache feel free to slip a winning lottery ticket into the cache. lol
  12. I think it is from that same menu that you can have it spend 2 minutes averaging the location. My GC gets no signal here at work. But I'm quite sure it was in the Waypoints menu.
  13. So I take it I shouldn't be mooning the cache as I open it? Drat.
  14. Stand over the cache and go to Waypoints and use the menu to save a waypoint. When you get home you and look at that waypoint and enter the address. :3
  15. So I was thinking about getting some eggs and hiding them for Easter. Then giving a list with the Lon. + Lat. of each egg. Then I started to wonder... Is that too OCD? Is it too evil?
  16. I have a GeoPatch which is my personal tracking number. I don't ever try to log home or something near home. I only mark the caches I go to as Visited with it and some day someone might be observant and see it on me and mark me as discovered. lol
  17. I'm new but I have just as much fun on my DNF's as I do on my Finds. As such I happily log all my DNFs. Often messages such as "Great view, but didn't find it after 15 minutes of looking". I don't know if the caches are missing or I just didn't find them so they don't get marked as Needs Maintenance. So I keep an eye on them and if I see others are finding one I go back and try again, sometimes it becomes a Find and that is twice as cool then. I would use Needs Maintenance if I see a smashed cache, wet/full logs, etc. I agree with the others who assert that DNF isn't a thing of shame. It is just an honest logging of having not spotted the cache. It helps everyone from the CO to other cachers who'll know it might not be obvious.
  18. I live in the state of Hawaii so my geocaching bucket list is a bit odd. At least people I've told in real life think it is odd. Iceland Sweden Norway Finland Denmark Nederland
  19. I get out of the car, take three steps, and realize that i should have gone to the bathroom before I left as my bladder screams.
  20. To my understanding the birds circle the planet twice each day. They are not stationary satellites. As they are in transit around the planet I'd guess they'd have to pass Alaska too. :3
  21. Another idea is to have some hand-outs there at camp with the information. When the girls are ready to go geocaching you give one hand-out to each girl or each team. Maybe have them laminated for repeat use.
