  1. Is it me, or do we need a massive geocaching end of year party here on Oahu? =:3
  2. Maybe for me the turn-off with Waymarking is that every McDonald, Taco Bell, Star Bucks and Walmart is a Waymark. I don't really need or want a service that when I browse GPS location near me the thing that pop up are pure commercialism. If Waymarking took out all the stores and commercial places and stuck to just interesting and quirky spots I'd be more interested. That just how it comes off to me. I know some people really like Waymarking, and that is cool for them -- do it and enjoy it.
  3. I also noticed that the file is indeed coming from the same drop box as all the other Magellan firmware releases. Throwing caution to the wind I installed it and went out geocaching. Stopping at traffic lights and such it seems like now the screen spins slightly less though it still happens. Everything else so far seems exactly the same. So after a day of caching it hasn't exploded. :3
  4. What things are fixed, different, new or changed? :3
  5. I personally like micro and nano caches as much as any other. However the saturation is a problem for hiding any type of cache.
  6. To my understanding the Boy Scouts have some very strict rules about placing caches and not harming the environment. If you have a local leadership council or some veteran scout masters maybe you could ask them for some advice? :3 That said, what ever you do you should have a lot of fun with it.
  7. WWFM Photos I took are posted here for anyone that wants to see. I can email full resolution (huge) in request. http://www.lomography.com/homes/rav_bunneh/albums/1720585-sprocket-rocket-5/photos/13552320 http://www.lomography.com/homes/rav_bunneh/albums/1720585-sprocket-rocket-5/photos/13552329
  8. One can easily imagine the relative cool inside a house, then walking outside with the gps feet of the radiant hot heat of the sidewalk. Yes, that WAS one fast moving front as it doesn't take long to go from one set of conditions to another. :3 If you really want to confuse the gps walk down the street and go into each shop along the way.
  9. Ding! Hit 100 then 101 geocaches found this weekend! :3
  10. If you want to make for the best experience for the kids, treat it like Easter. When Easter comes around you hide the eggs; you control the level of fun. With geocaching you can go out and find the cache first. In this way you know where it is. You know that the location is safe for your age level kids. You can also sneak in SWAG for kids into the cache if a cache is getting empty. In this way when you come back with the kids you can lead them to the general location of the cache. While you pretend to look for the cache you can also, subtly, encourage them to be searching in the right area while at the same time still promoting their critical thinking skills. On a side note, some people have suggested skipping micros. I don't know if that is really needed. I've found micros and the smaller nano caches no easier or harder to find. I'd only suggest skipping them if the kids will be totally turned off by the lack of toys. But each kid is different. Some like the hunt for the sake of the hunt itself. Others only look for caches to get something out of it like a new toy or swag item.
  11. My PQ is always named the same thing each week. All I do is delete the old one and replace it with the new one. That is how I go about it.
  12. That is too funny! You should hang on to those no-snowmobile pins. :3
  13. When you download a file it goes someplace. I use a Mac so it goes into my Downloads folder. For Mac's what you get is a disk image or .dmg file. You mount that and run the inclosed installer program. If you have a PC it may just be some .exe file that installs the communicator. The communicator itself is not an application but a web browser plug in. I'm sure Magellan has loads of help pages and friendly support people if you get hung up too. :3
  14. I think that some select people really are living in fear. I mean, abnormally so. The type of people that see a little toy in a little kids playground and think "bomb" rather than "kids toy". I'm hoping at some point bomb squads and news media might get tired of these paranoid peoples reports -- that said we still see news stories such as "Escalators: What you don't know can kill you" so I'm not holding my breath for sanity.
  15. No. However, by default it will show the closest caches to you. You can also sort the list by something other than closest in the menu.
  16. Yeah, but $75 for 3 small plastic containers? In the end I've decided I want to make a Dinosaur Train geocache instead. Actually I made it, but need to find the perfect kid friendly place to hide it.
  17. I wanted to place a Ranger Rick cache but they were extremely expensive to buy. Also it seems like you can't make your own. So I was a little put off by that.
  18. FYI it is cache, not cash. Cash is what you put in the Church donation basket. Cache is the container you hide. :3
  19. If you want peer reviewed caches then sort by Favorite and pick the top 100 in the area. Just an idea.
  20. The Magellan Communicator isn't software, so you will not find a Magellan Communicator "program". It is a web browser plug-in; and that plug-in can be uninstalled hence the uninstaller. If your computer meets the minimum requirements you use the plug-in as such. You need a Premium membership in order to download a gpx files Launch a web browser supported by Magellan Communicator such as Safari or IE. Go to a Cache page you want on your GPS unit Turn on your GPS and connect it to your PC. In the browser select the Sent to GPS button. Download -- This downloads the file right to your GPS unit. Some people find it far easier to not use the plug-in. Instead they download the .gpx files or run a Pocket Quary. They then manually drag and drop the file(s) into the Geocaching folder on their GPS. This is the option I use with my weekly PQ as it is easier for me.
  21. My favorite backpack is the Merrell Territory Backpack in amazon green. :3 Since I live in Hawaii I keep both my geocaching supplies and my beach stuff in it at all times.
  22. Snowmobile? Why this is how I get around Waipio and Waipahu. The other day I drove down to Jolibee for chicken and gravy on my snowmobile. Snow was real deep too! :3 hehe
  23. To constantly see your coordinates you can add Lon and Lat to the dashboard or map screen. You just edit an existing field or add a new on. How? Press MENU and fool with Add Field and Edit Field I believe they are called. My GPS is at home and I'm at work.
  24. No. You can drag and drop the .gpx file from the PQ into your Geocaching folder on the gps and the waypoints gpx file, if there is one, into the Waypoints folder. Or you can use GSAK or VantagePoint if you like.
