  1. Thanks for all the good info guys. Sounds like it is definately the next generation. I will have to take a closer look, but probably wait untill the price drops a little. If anythign I an interested jsut for the Wherigo and the 3D view.
  2. I have been reading and there are a lot of negative comments on the Colorado 400T. But I do still have a few questions concercning this unit: 1. How many geocaches can you download to the unit? It looks like just 1000 - I have a Legend HCX and am constantly running out of space. I would love it if you could store the geocaches on the memory card, sounds like this is not possible though. 2. How does the whole download thing work? If you build a Pocket Query and get the .gpx file with say 500 cahces can you just copy that straight to the unit or do you have to copy them individually? - Right now I typically get my pocket query .gpx file, open it with Easygps and send them all to my Legend HCX as waypoints. THen I copy the .gpx file to my pocket PC and use GPXSonar for paperless caching. Seems to work fine but just having one unit would be nice. 3. How does the 3-D work? I have not seen many god pictures or heard much talk about this feature. THis is a feature that looks real cool to me. - Do it dhow your track on the 3D image? - Can you rotate the image around like in Google Earth? 4. Have you played the Wherigo games? Sounds like a pretty cool idea, I was just wondering if it is cool or just way to new still. Would it be worth buying a unit just to use for Wherigo? Thanks for the input
  3. Is there a way to take the saved google earth route (.kmz) file and import it back into mapsource so you can download it to your GPS? It looks like the file types are not compatable.
  4. This message is intended for the administration but it would be nice to see what everyone else thinks also. A nice addition for the Geocaching.com website would be some kind of rating system that allows users that find a cache to rate the cache when they log their visit. I would suggest 3 different ratings: Difficulty: 1-5 - How does this compare to how I have it rated? Terrain: 1-5 - How does this compare to how I have it rated? Fun: 1-10 - Is this a fun cache I guess I would like to see how the people that have found my cache would rate it compared to the way I have the difficulty and terrain rated and if people enjoyed it. Just an idea.
  5. I was curious to see if anyone knows of any manufacturer making a GPS unit that will interface with Google Earth? I love that google earth program. It would be to awesome if you could have a GPS unit that would show you where you are and let you manipulate the screen in a 3D mode like on Google earth. I was looking at some pocket PC's that have an internal GPS unit. Does anyone have any experience with these? Could you load google earth on a pocket PC? And then input you coordinates to see where you are? Does anyone use a pocket PC when they are out Geocaching instead of printing off the pages from the computer? How well does that work out for you?
  6. Blue Deuce - We already have level 2, but aiming for level 3. Hope to see you there!!
  7. Well, for the last five minutes I tried to see it your way and I ended up disagreeing. Yeah, you went to far with your post and you are going overboard. I'm not so paranoid that A. I think I am at the complete mercy of any freak targeting my kids. and B. Posting an image of them is offering them up as bait. I'm glad I don't live in your world. Blue Deuce - I was looking at your profile and I think you do live in my world, sort of. I have the same blue T-Shirt from Disney Worls and have a similar picture in front of the Tree of Life. How funny. I take it you are a "Pampered" family also. I am not saying it is wrong to post pictures of the kids, I have posted pictures on a Snowmobile web site of my kids plenty of times. And that is really no different than here. It just seems like this is a much bigger site with lots of people watching. I enjoy looking at other peoples pictures and we take plenty when out with the kids. I am not "Paranoid" at least I don't think I am, just being cautous I guess. Also I did edit my previous post, I kind of thought I was going over board, just trying to prove a point.
  8. Well for my 1st thread this sure turned into a doosy! Well for the record, I don't live in fear but I don't like to take unneccesary risks with my children. I guess my impression of these low lives that would bring any harm to my kids is they are lonely people that spend a lot of time on the net. They get obsessed with something and can't control themselves. Now I hope this isn't going to far but 1stimestar posted this. In less than 5 minutes on the internet I found her name, phone number and adress. (After better judgement I deleted this information). If I was some freek (And I am not) and got obessed about your kids from seeing their pictures on the net do you really think they would be safe? Just trying to prove a point. Here
  9. All good responses. It looks like the majority of people on here don't worry about it. I guess for now untill I feel a little more comfortable I will leave the kids off. You may judt hsve to see a picture of my ugly mug!!
  10. I think my spider senses are just tunred on high right now. I live in Spokane, WA and after seeing all about that dirtbag over in N. Idaho that kidnapped those kids and killed that family I just want to keep a tight reign on my kids. I guess no need to take any extra chances. I will keep my picture taking more focused on the surrounding scenery for now.
  11. I am very new to this website and geocaching. I know on a snowmobile forum I belong to pictures make it great. This forum seems very large though and I am very leary of posting pictures of my family and kids on here. Too many strange people. Now I didn't log my home coordinates on here just because I don't like the idea of someone I don't know being able to have access to my home location especially if I post pictures of my children. So am I being a little paraniod here or does anyone else feel the same way? I guess posting pictures of the scenery around the cache's is just as good. I will stick to that for now.
  12. Thanks, that is a pretty good list. We will find a few off of there.
  13. Thanks for getting me in the right place.
  14. HI there - We are looking for a fun cache to track down this weekend in the Spokane, WA area. We have a Japanese exchange student staying with us for 3 weeks and want to get out and show her around. Anywhere in the Spokane area or North Idaho would be great. What are your favorites that you have found. Also nothing to terrably difficult, we are still rather new to this. I want to get out somewhere were we may find some wildlife also so any that you have done and found wildlife would be awesome. Thanks
  15. Thanks for all the help guys. I have got the map thing figured out, that is just what I was looking for.
  16. Renegade Night - Thanks for the response. I gues I should clarify my 1st question. IS there a map on the site that shows all the caches? Say I want to see all the caches in the North Idaho area. What is the best way to see them all?
  17. Well My family and I just started this this week. Man is this fun, what a great family hobby. We had 3 finds this week. So far I have just a few questions: 1. Is there a way to show a map with the locations of all the caches? For Example I would like to see all the locations in North spokane on one map. Right now I am just typing in a zip code and looking at the ones in that area. 2. What do you do when you get stumped. We went to a cache today (twcie) and never could find it. What is the best way of going about getting some hints if you can't find it? Also do these ever disapear? I kept thinking "Maybe someone took it" 3. When searching for caches - If you are at the exact coordinates, how far away should the cache be? 5' 10', 20'? How hidden will they be? Should you have to dig? Will they ever be totally covered? Do you have any searching tips? 4. Pictures: Are there any ground rules for taking pictures? What should you not post a picture of? Thanks for the help.
