  1. I have a Garmin GPSMAP 76CS that is advertised to get an EPE <3 meters. With WAAS enabled, I only get about 19-20 feet EPE. A tech at Garmin recommended resetting the unit back to factory settings (which I did), but still get only 19-20 feet EPE. Anybody have any recommendations?
  2. Thanks for the posts. The input and information are greatly appreciated. Special thanks to 'embra' for the very helpful link.
  3. Does anybody have any information on the installed GPS “Nav Package” now being installed in some Nissan (and probably other) vehicles? I am interested in what exactly it is. Can I upload / change maps, is the package upgradeable, how many waypoints can I store, is it a monthly pay service, or an installed program etc. The salesman didn’t have very much in the way of product info on it. Here is a picture of it. Nissan page
  4. Thanks! That was it. Seems I dropped my USB driver...
  5. I’m having troubles uploading maps from Map Source into 60CS. I use a USB connection to connect the GPSr to the computer. While I can upload caches and waypoints just fine, I can’t get the map program to acknowledge the GPSr through the USB. It keeps looking for the COM Ports. I’m sure I overlooked something. Any ideas?
  6. I originally started caching thinking it was something I could do with my 6-year-old daughter. Because she liked the cartoon character Dora the explorer, and she loves “treasure hunting”, we came up with the name Geo-Dora. Now I get chastised if I try to go caching without her!
  7. Very cool! When I was stationed out in the National Training Center in Barstow, CA., we were flying our helicopter and we noticed these desert drawings just outside Blythe, CA. They turned out to be Intaglios. After a little research we found this site Intaglios In Blythe, CA. Apparently this kind of thing is more common than I thought.
  8. How far would you go to hunt a cache? Would you go to another country? Understanding that some people utilize alternate methods of transportation to get to the cache i.e. bicycles, or public transportation, how far would you go?
  9. Again, I will be in Hawaii on 10 November - 15 November, and can drop one there. I just can't watch over it. Let me know if you want me to drop one there on Oahu.
  10. Congratulations! Hopefully you’ll have many more "finds" in the future.
  11. Exactly! You wrote exactly what I was thinking...
  12. I am in the military, and we don't even have them in our NBC masks anymore. I too have been looking for them, and am going to have to look in the surplus stores.
  13. First Off, thanks to Blue Power Ranger for the great idea! Being in the military, I find myself in many different States / Countries. As I leave South Korea, and return to the USA, I can place a cache in Hawaii, and in Alabama, but I can’t monitor them, as I will be stationed in Washington State, and Blue Power Ranger has spoken for that state. Willing to help if able.
  14. Hey orionspants, I have the Garmin 76CS that has a base map built in (that covers the S. Korea area ok), but to be honest with you, I don’t even use the map feature. I just download the waypoints, and use the ADF (auto direction finder) needle to point to the cache. I do combine the Google Earth research first, but I find that does a good job. I am up in Pyongteak (Camp Humphreys). I hope this helps. Geo-Dora
  15. Hello beautyisgod, I copied and pasted the grid you gave me, and was able to at least see that the cache is located in the trees between the building and the road, next to the dirt lot. From this you have an idea what you are in for... Probably going to be located at the base of a tree etc. It looks like many fellow cachers have given you some great ideas. Hopefully these will help you find your first cache. Best of luck to you. Don't give up.
  16. Hello beautyisgod, I literally copy the lat/lon (grid) and paste it into the google earth program in the top input box (e.g., hotels near JFK) box. It will accept the grid as is, and zoom in on that point. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Geo-Dora
  17. Hello beautyisgod. Though I am by no means an expert, it looks to me like you aren't doing your homework before going out. What I do is print out the page of what I'm looking for, and any hints including what previous cachers had to say (including pictures). Then I plug the grid into google earth to get an idea of what the land looks like etc. Then I set off on my hunt. Don't give up! You need to look (thinking like the person who hid it) i.e. where would I hide a cache around here if I was hiding it? Another recommendation is to limit your first few hunts to very easy caches to build a little experience and confidence. I hope this helps… Happy Hunting!
  18. Thanks for the web address Jason. It looks like a good site, but (at least for us foreigners) we can't read it. The webmaster might want to make it Hangul/English. Anyway 'Geokorea' and myself would like to get a few fellow cachers together to do some caching. I leave in November, but 'Geokorea' lives here, and can continue the club/caching.
  19. If you are in South Korea and looking for fellow Geo-Cachers to go hunting with, please contact Geokorea. We have started an informal Geo-Caching club, and Geokorea would be interested in joining forces to hunt caches.
  20. Hey Mark, You know I'm up for it! We'll just have to find a day when we both have the same day off, and can get the girls to come out with us. Talk to you soon. Ken
  21. mbrien, yep we've been pretty busy placing and hunting caches. found all caches south of Seoul except two- Buraksan - SongbulSa, and Buraksan Rest Stop. Both are on the same hill / mountain. We hiked up there one day (just South of Osan), but there was too much snow on the ground to actually find a cache. Maybe we could go attempt these two when the snow melts.
  22. MBrien, Looking forward to searching for your cache. I'd be interested in getting the girls out for a Geo-Cache hunt sometime.
  23. Occasionally, I hunt with other Geo-Cachers . Regardless of who actually spots the cache (In fact we usually guide the kids in to the find) we all sign the log, and then log it on line, when we get home.
  24. Hey Guys, I am at "the Hump" myself. I just returned from TDY in the states and with my 5 year old daughter, have found a couple of Korean caches here. We also placed our first cache in the Humphreys area. I'd be interested in some joint searches.
