  1. I agree this is probably not what you should be looking at. For a little bit more you can pick up a legend which will do the job at getting you started. I am guessing as you are talking £'s you are in the UK. Depending on where you are based you could pop along to an event, there are quite a few regular ones around the country. Most who go along will show you their toys and how they work so you can make a decision at what will work for you.
  2. Welcome to the Geocaching world. If you have a passport you can join us at our London Event next week at Swiss Cottage. Should we allow those from the dirty side of the river across? If can make it wipe your feet on the way across and you will be welcomed at the event.
  3. Someone round here used a sock, and after prologued wet weather it was close to one my most unpleasant experiences in caching. It was really grim.
  4. There are other ways to camo containers than bags, have a look at black duck tape and paint. These generally gives the cacher a much nicer experience than soggy bags.
  5. If someone is going to stop caching or have a break then really they should either collect their caches or get them adopted. That does solve the problem. The other option is, you could create a new listing at the location and maintain the cache. I can't condone you using their container as that may be construed as theft, but I am sure if the owner wanted it back you would let them take it back again (if know what I mean!!)
  6. To get the definitive answer, if you email your local reviewer they will be able to give you the answer that is relevant to your area. Reviewers are quite approachable. For example here in the UK you can't place caches in dry stone walls.
  7. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=201301 Have a look for SEcaching. They have plenty of regular events for you to meet up with people.
  8. Oh and I am going to have a lay down after that and worry about things that are more important like what caches shall I visit next. This topic is way to heavy.
  9. I will just say. To any police out there. Despite what the people out there on a mission may be saying and pushing through the press and courts. The complaining that they do about you. The fact that many would not actually do the job you do but are happy to tell you how to do it. Not forgetting those that have the ability of hindsight to criticize what you do. I know how demoralising it can be when all you see is people out trying to make your work difficult and complaining how things are done. And just the media of bad press against you. I think the majority are doing a good job. I have been stopped whilst travelling and whilst caching. I am happy for you to stop and search me any time. In my car, whilst out walking or caching. Have a look at the pictures I take. I am happy for my details to be kept on computers. I am happy to have my time taken for the sake of the one in a hundred chance that some one drink driving, no insurance, carrying dangerous or illegal property is stopped and caught. I am even happy for them to pop in for a cup of tea. Shame the groups who take these campaigns through the courts, forums and press are quick to highlight problems but never seem to offer solutions.
  10. Or if you know of a suitable venue, set up your own event for when you are there.
  11. You can't injure too many of them, otherwise I won't get any fuel for my heating.
  12. The Royal Parks Constabulary has long since departed this world. It has been merged and is now just a tiny tiny part of 'The Met'
  13. The problem you have is that you have to be British or resident to sign. That discounts all the tourists that visit London. That said they should be encouraged to write to the head minister of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. In fact it would be worth people doing that as well as the petition. Not that many of the UK cachers visit forums to see the link to the petition. Some just do not think the No10 petition does anything what so ever other than make people feel like they are communicating with No10. Some cachers realise that the loss of the parks is a shame, but there are plenty of other caches in London. Although personally I wish I had done more of them. I also have no doubt that one day this agreement is re looked at and will be back.
  14. closer than me though so I bet he has more clout than I do
  15. Whilst it does not say you cannot have waypoints on private land it does say To me that would suggest that if the waypoint you must consider how geocachers may deal with that waypoint but also perceived by the public and be respectful with your waypoint placement. In which case a reviewer should get involved. Personally I would not be best please if some one put a waypoint in my garden/property without asking, I would also be bringing it up with a reviewer.
  16. There is an geocaching event a bit further down towards the pointy bit of England in December. You will be able to meet up with others cachers there. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8ea3c&log=y
  17. I would not have an issue with that and it has been done before
  18. That is the thing. If a note is added every so often then people know what the issues are and also that the cache will come back at some stage and is not unloved. Then just little updates which means people are less likely to put a SBA log on and make the reviewers work. Regular information is good. If a difficult cache has lots of DNF logs on, then it is nice to see a owner maintenance log on the cache to show that the owner does pop by once in a while to check all is ok. This again gives reassurance to others to go find it and all is well.
  19. A cache is a cache to people outside the game, it makes no real difference if it is geo/terra/navi or opencaching. The worst thing that can happen is the other listing sites not worrying about the ban and allowing caches to be placed. I suspect that the 'management' are going to be less likely to re open discussions at a later date if they found out that caches are still in place. We would all get tarred with the same brush.
  20. Sorry to disappoint but I do not think its a gap you have found in the cache market. I think someone beat you to it. There was a cacher somewhere on the south coast that had a set of fire station caches. I think it was around Poole way.
  21. use firefox with the geocaching add ons. one of them allows for log entry fonts etc
