  1. actually, killing off all life on the planet will not damage the planet itself not that there would be anyone around to care Plastic waterproofs are the way to go - pelican, or whatever - and paint for labelling. Even the 'indestructable' ammo can will rust
  2. it all depends on your preferences and whether there is someone who can join you on the hunts - I usually like to spend time alone in the woods, and solo caching is an excellent way to do that - but if she is available and interested, I take my wife along because I enjoy her company even more than being alone.
  3. The solution being the double-bitted axe that is just barely within reach?
  4. Better yet - if in Oregon, bring something from Rogue or another of the wonderful small local breweries
  5. My wife and I have always enjoyed spending time in the woods - unfortunately, she has a regular-type job that keeps her cooped up for several hours five days a week so I do a bit of solo caching, too. Neither of us is fanatical - go when the mood strikes.
  6. Isn't that the way everyone dresses when caching in the woods?
  7. best idea I have seen along these lines is a puzzle that appears to be a sudoku puzzle, but is, in fact, something completely different (and I do not mean another, similar type of puzzle). far more creative, far more ingenious, far more devious and far more satisfying to crunch
  8. I don't use the brand you do, but the topo map is a very useful step up from the typical base map. I have never regretted spending the extra bux
  9. don't worry - those will be designated historic sites, too, in a few generations back on topic: sure, use a metal detector if you like - since each of us writes our own rules (ignoring, for the moment, the guidelines for placement), the only one who can say what is cheating is yourself
  10. check out this travel bug It is associated with a puzzle cache in the tucson, az area and has managed to stay in the vicinity for most of a year so far
  11. I figure that anyone who was planning on keeping it would not have logged it in the cache, either
  12. I like Lazarus Long's statement even better "the only capital crime is stupidity"
  13. checkout geocaching U - there is a link on the resources page - get the brochure and print it out give them the url of geocaching.com so they can check it out give them as much information as you can - perhaps someone can provide contact information for some parks and rec departments with which they have had good experience The parks people I have dealt with in the past were already aware and willing. One cache I have in a library required a bit of salesmanship - I gave the librarian the names and contact info for other librarians who had caches in their libraries and from there it was all smooth. Good luck
  14. you might also try GeoChecker.com
  15. use the url tag or highlight the text you want to make into a link and click the little button at the top of the edit space that looks like a globe with a chain link under it
  16. If you don't like caches that are too easy, you should be able to simple filter the easy cachse out in your PQs. that was not a complaint about seeing listings for easy caches - I can deal with that fine, thanks
  17. well as far as that goes, I have met very few people of any age who are not clueless, but I do not conform my life to meet their shortcomings That's fine, as long as you conform your caches to meet the guidelines. only the ones listed here on the private ones, I feel free to do whatever
  18. you won't be sorry - I use it on most of my puzzle caches
  19. Took tent, left broken hot wheels car - TFTH!!!!!!
  20. I have a travel bug which is a cache - see OHMIKY's Travelling Mini-cache I have seen other travelbugs that have some facility for carrying 'hitchhikers' which might also qualify as caches except that there was no log included. The travel bug is not listed as a cache, so if you wanted to put your log online, you would need to do it on the regular TB log. In answer to your question - sure - go for it!
  21. don't worry about it, just line 'em up against a wall and shoot them - and whoever brought it up and is responsible for the waste of good ammunition
  22. Problem is there are many versions of this book around and no agreement on which is the 'correct' version. Some questions can be answered by any version, but any that depend on counting words or such things are suspect.
  23. a muggler is someone who makes muggles - in other words, muggles who breed
