Garmin GPS V: basemap update with v2.12 beta?
Pillage people replied to worldtraveler's topic in GPS technology and devices
What I have noticed after installing 2.11/2.12 is that lakes (at least the ones near me) no longer appear on the display. I reinstalled 2.08 and the lakes now appear. For example; 47 22.481 -122 02.120 should put you in the middle of a lake. Those of you with 2.11/2.12 installed won't see the lake while those of you with 2.08 will. Try it and let me know. -

'Cause none of you folks bothered to find an answer for me I was forced to find it myself. Thanks for nothing -

And has "Vertical Speed" units selection field added to the "Units" setup tab page, what do I do with it . I don't see any field that I can change to that will allow me to see my vertical speed. Is there more or less to it than what I am seeing? Thanks

GPS V firmware v2.03 now available

the only problems I have experienced so far is up/down loading to Easy and ExpertGPS. So I am guessing that it is an ExpertGPS problem and not a Garmin problem. Atleast it appears that way. -

Okay, I installed 2.03 and did the master reset. When I try to up or down load to or from ExpertGPS to the GPSr I get an unexpected error message in Expert and the program locks. All other programs work fine, such as TOPO! and MapSource. Anybody else seeing this or is it just me? -
Megellan 4000 sold on Ebay for $$$ I own a Garmin G-V and just bought a GPS4000 from a friend for $40.00 and just gave it back to him because it would not lock. I thought haveing an old GPS would be fun. But it was just frustrating, so why any body would pay that amount is beyond me.

Track log information
Pillage people replied to Pillage people's topic in GPS technology and devices
It was right under my nose all this time. It seems mapsource is proving more useful than originally thought. It's off to court I go with my laptop and trusty G-V (just joking) -

I would buy the larger bag. P/N: 010-10306-00. It uses the mounting hardware that comes with the GPS V. The mount has four weighted tabs that have a flexable metal inside to conform to your dash. It has a broad base for stability. I have the larger bean mount and like it. [This message was edited by The Pillage People on April 15, 2002 at 01:18 AM.]

Is information such as Time, Speed and position recorded for each track point? And if so how do I get to it. One example I can think for the use of this info would be a speeding ticket. If the officer says he got me at 63 mph but my GPSr showed I was going 59.8 mph is there a way to present the information to a judge so that I could show that the officer is wrong? (no, I didn't get pulled over, just wondering) (edit: forgot to mention I use the GPS V) [This message was edited by The Pillage People on April 14, 2002 at 09:56 PM.]

What version are you running in the V? I do believe that 2.02 does turn road lock off when doing off road navigating. Cut and paste from Garmin site: Changes made from version 2.01 to 2.02: Added "wait cursor" map pointer. Added additional position formats. Added "User Grid" position format setup page. Make sure "lock on road" map setting is ON for "Fastest Time" and "Shortest Distance" route preference and OFF for the "Off Road" selection. Added BlueChart marine data support. Added diacritics support. Added animation to the data transfer page.

I would recommend expert GPS only to people that have broadband internet access. Since it pulls all the maps off the inernet and they can get rather large. But on the other hand it does store those maps for offline use, so if you don't mind the initial hours of downloading (for dialup users) it is a good program as it provides both arial and topographic. I for one use both Expert GPS and the Topo! by NG as the NG maps provide additional features such as route profiles and altitude readouts.
