  1. WAY TO GO, COLORADO CACHERS! It looks like the CITO Event went over VERY WELL! Wish I could have been there, but I was on the other side of the Rockies getting ready for finals. I'd love to have annother CITO Event in Colorado happen sometime before winter! Does anyone know a place that Really needs it?
  2. I am sure your grandfather would be so happy for you!
  3. WOW! You guys have some awesome Items! Mine are pretty simple, and not nearly as fancy as you guys! Anyway, I leave Clothspins I painted in caches. They're nothing too special, but I do like to decorate them nicely, and normally I put a cute quote in the clothspins. They're all different, but I like them a lot. These need to be sealed still, but they'll do! I also write my username on them all.
  4. AGREED! Now, I am a lot newer than most of you, I just started a bit ago, but I have to say, what really drew me into Geocaching was the ability to visit places that I would have missed otherwise. Even in my own town I have found stores, statues and walking trails I didn't know about before, AND THAT ROCKS! So I do get frustrated when I am looking for a cache in the area I am going to, only to find out that the 50 closest caches are LPC...Now, there is nothing wrong with them, But I would like to see a reason for me to venture out there (Becides the joy of the hunt, at least...)
  5. One of the most frustrating things about geocaching is opening a cache container to find everything wet and nasty. We have found some really cool containers out there, some better than others. Good container choice is key to having a successful cache with positive feedback. Find a good container then build off of it. Another good idea is to place the container in your backyard just like you want to hide it and allow it to stand against the elements, especially if it is a questionable container. If it stays dry and holds up then it should do well in the wild. Just remember this. If you spent all that time to construct a cache that you wanted to be an amazing find for someone else, wouldn't you want to build it to last the elements? Think about the cachers that will come look for the cache too. I would be disappointed if I found a cool container only to open it and find a water soaked logged. It may look good on the outside but the inside is well...... you get the idea. We should be creative but not at the expense of poor container choice. Make your first cache special and creative, but make it to last the elements too. You will have less headaches and maintenance issues as well. Just wanted to encourage you to rethink your container idea before it melts. I hope this is received as it was intended... to be helpful. Oh yeah... they idea looks great for a cache. Please post a picture of the finished cache. Thank you, This was reaffirming my worries. I decided not to place it after I put my container underwater.... It was not as waterproof as I hoped. I will have to hide it this summer, once I return home and have a better container. Thanks for the help, I will totally post pictures!!!
  6. I've been planning on making my first geocache, and made the lid of the container look like this... It is pretty small, the whole piece is about 12" across... I am worried about the container I plan on attaching it too. If this is flush to the ground, then there is a good chance water will get in if it rains. But I figured it'd be a fun find if you were off-trail somewhere...
  7. I am so glad you left that Wrapper, my CITO bag was lacking trash, and I needed to make a trip to the recycling bin anyway. I leave an old, rusty paperclip.
  8. Hey all! So, I was out looking for a micro in a park today after having a nice lunch with my father... My GPS was pointing me straight to a set of buses next to a van. The parking lot was not too busy, but a baseball game had just let out, so the teams were skill hanging around. Trying to be stealthy, I sat down on the edge of the sidewal next to the bushes, and acted like I was waiting for someone. As soon as they left, I scramble to the bushes and begin getting into the buses to look. I am searching everywhere, moving rocks, getting scratches, and being generally sketchy in terms of my actions. Not a big deal, right? Well it turns out that there was a lady in the van who was taking a nap... I only realized this once she opened the door and gave me one of those "By the way, I am here" Coughs. Not knowing what to do (Having never been caught half-way into shrubbery before) I quickly stood up, grabbed my purse, brushed off my dress, and left. So, have any of you ever been caught in the act of Geocaching, let your stealth down, or in general make those around you worry about your mental whereabouts before?
