  1. I agree with the note about mystery caches returning to their original coordinates once found. They shouldn't do that in my opinion, as now if I want to put out another cache in that area, I may not remember that the mystery final was there. I agree that geoart should go back together, so why not just return to the original coords if the geoart attribute is chosen?
  2. This happens both on different computers. When using the PLAY SEARCH feature, I have to enter the location twice before it will accept it. Then I create a filter, of: not found by me, 20 miles, only 1.0 and 1.5 terrain. submit A listing of 200 caches appear. Cool. Check them all and add to LIST. Nope, only 5 caches go over, and those are not within the filter specs. Any ideas? Thanks, Randy
  3. I browsed the topic but I didn't notice this covered, sorry if it has. Why are Adventure Lab caches that the other cachers do, a secret? When I am on my totals page, I can click on my lab caches and see what I have done. When I'm on another cacher's page, all I get is an ad for the app at the play store. Why is it a secret what others are doing?
  4. Well I guess there is no reason to visit Nevada any more. I really enjoyed my time with 5 other guys, working on the ET trail a few years ago. We were tired, but laughed uncontrollably at times, but we worked together as a team and we had camaraderie. On top of doing the ET trail, we took a day out to check out Death Valley, staying in Rachel was a real trip, and Tonepah, well, LOL(great great memories). We saw lots of great country and were a bit scared being out in the SageBrush (pun intended) alone. The brakes on the van were hotter than we've ever seen before. It was a blast and we haven't done it since, but a another friend of mine wanted to celebrate his 10,001 find when it happens, by going to Nevada to see what it feels like to get 1000 in a day and to see some wild country. I guess I will have to cancel that trip now or go to another state.
  5. I have the new search map. I find the filter is now broken out into tabs. I can handle that. The tabs work fine. However, the MORE tab isn't working for me. Perhaps I am not doing something to make it work properly? In that MORE tab, you can choose HIde caches I've found Hide caches I own Show disable caches Show only my solved coordinates as well as Name contains Not found by None of these work. If I enter a name into NOT FOUND BY, the name appears as a choice, I can choose it, but then it does nothing. The map simply hazes over and nothing more happens.
  6. It already works since the new search option - On the search page press the button "Add Filters" - On the right side select: 'I haven't found' and 'Yes' (under 'Has Corrected Coordinates') - Then press search and you see all caches with corrected coordinates which you haven't found. - Select all caches - Add then to a list - From that list you can create a pocket query Merry christmas  Thank you for the work around and that does work OK, but after I go through all that and pull that PQ, then I have to go pull another PQ of the area I want to cache in of the remaining caches and combine them together. Then I have to narrow it down to a file size of 200 in GSAK due to my gps restrictions. NOT FUN AT ALL. Now, if I could just do it all from one PQ, of which I ask for all caches and only those puzzles of which have corrected coords and limit the PQ to 200 total caches, then I'm done. If a PQ is a premium feature to make oury game experience better and we pay extra for it, why shouldn't it work the way we need it to? Replace "Are for Members Only", or "On My Watchlist" with the corrected coords option. Who uses those anyways? <chuckle>
  7. Hello, It's been 2 years now and I'm still paying my dues and I've only asked for this one thing. Any chance I'm can ask for it for Christmas? Randy
  8. Go here http://www.geocaching.com/my/Default.aspx over on the right there's a bunch of useful links, one of which is "find another player" whichh has been there for years. OMG! You are right! Those have been there so long and I've never used them. Thanks.
  9. Actually, "not found by" is helpful and cachers asked for that feature to be added to the search funtionality. If I'm going caching with two other people, then I'll search to see what caches all three of us haven't found yet. It's difficult to determine what 'we' don't need without first asking everyone's opinion. As a Premium Member, you can find all the caches you've found by using the filter in the upper right corner...just select "I've found". If you want to see all the caches that someone else found, then go to their profile and select the Geocaches tab. I can appreciate that there's an extra step for this, as it can make some people more comfortable about other people being able to see their latest activities. I don't see that extra step as a huge hurdle to overcome if trying to see someone else's activity. First off, I like the new search engine. I see it's benefits. However, I too cannot find certain things I used to search by, such as Found by Cacher. OK, so you say go to their profile and do an extra click or two. OK, but how do I get to their profile. There is no search for Geocacher that I can see. If you want to find Team Bullis, how are you going to do it (without clicking on my name to the left, LOL). Thanks for the input.
  10. Why hasn't this been done yet? If you ask me, this is the one of the most needed changes of PQs ever. Groundspeak initiated the corrected coordinates field and it would be only logical that the very next step would be to allow premium members to filter through a PQ. It doesn't make sense to give us something useful, that we can't use effectively. All we need is one more option on the PQ which would state Exclude Unknowns Without Corrected Coordinates. Please gang, put this on the list once again. It's been 2 years now and it's very much overdue! Thanks.
  11. I have just discovered this very issue on the NH page. Click on Newest in NH or PLAY Hide n Seek and then choose New Hampshire. Then click on Last Found, now do it again so that all the unfounds are listed. On the next page at the bottom of the ones that haven't been found, are the caches that haven't been found in a long time. Look at The King's Locked Gates for example. It says it hasn't been found since 2010, now click onto the cache. It's been found a lot recently. Most, if not all, of the multis are like this.
  12. I am saddened to hear the feelings of many about discovering TBs and Geocoins, because I need a list of about 16,000 to discover. I have a challenge cache in my 10 mile radius and can't clear it until I discover more TBs than I have cache finds. I am an avid mover of TBs and have moved quite a few. I believe I have discovered about 10% of my total TBs and this is due to friend's coins, neat icons, or achievement coins. Now, because of this cache Challenge Cache, I need to locate a large list of them to discover and I think folks in general are against that. What will I do?
  13. Two thoughts. 1. If challenge caches didn't exist, then we would still challenge ourselves and work towards goals, just as there are websites devoted to the climbing of mountains and there are "LISTS" of your completions. I think it is human nature to challenge oneself and others. 2. I think there should be a rule for the changing of D and T ratings since I have had them changed on my charts and now it looks like I didn't complete that challenge after all. Here is what I would suggest: After the cache is published, the owner has 1 year to freely change the D and T or an adjustment period. After which the cache is locked and grandfathered. I would doubt that the higher terrain numbers would change much, but if the situation did arrive where man put a road up to a 4.5 terrain cache, then that is an awesome achievement and I feel the cache is now a gimmee on the grid. Now you have a new geotourist destination. The word would spread "hey you want a 4.5 that's grandfathered and is now a PNG?"
  14. What about the cacher for whom it was intended? They may be completely offended and the longer it stays there, the more it hurts. What if they were the type to take revenge? What about our map being filled with FU here and FU there, FU to you too and FU back at ya? I think it's out of taste and childish, and I can laugh it off. But then again, I'm not the target.
  15. Groundspeak/Geocaching prides itself of being family friendly, right? Now don't we all know what those letters mean in the title of this post? Even if I told you that it means Found Upsidedown, you would have your doubts wouldn't you? We have a cacher in New Hampshire named Team Yianni and he always gets FTF a lot! A cacher that has never been too fond of him released a cache (see link) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=7870409a-3ef7-464a-b650-c579abb9d9ff We reported it to Groundspeak but aren't getting any results. I guess it's OK to create caches using the letters F.U. I think common sense tells us that this letter combination should NOT be used. What does everyone else think?
  16. First off, I am a caching lifelong user of Magellan Explorist XL and I have bought the 710 because it's the latest and greatest. Here is one of the weirdest things I have noticed so far. Now mind you, the 710 is my backup unit. When my XL dies, then I'll switch over, but not until. I put alkaline batteries in the unit and I played around with it when I first got it, for several hours on a caching trip. I then put it on my desk and left it alone. I checked back with it a couple weeks later and the batteries were dead so I put in the Lithium batteries that came with it. I then shut if off and left it on the desk and didn't touch it for about 3 weeks. I turned it on and batteries were dead. I then put in alkalines again and guess what, 1 week later, the batteries are at half power. What is going on? I am truly making sure the unit is "Powered Off" as the button states and I watch it shutdown. I understand that you can only get 5 hours off of 2 batteries on a day of caching, but losing batteries when it's powered off is ridiculous. One other thing that bothers me that I want to get off my chest is how Magellan treats old units. A friend brought me an old Garmin gps (Map 560 I think it was), it wouldn't accept the old satellites any longer, so we hooked it up to the computer and went to Garmin and downloaded the latest update and BAM, it starts working again. I am a hero! He then brings me his friend's Magellan Map330 because it stopped accepting the satellites. Nothing. I can't find anything online for an update to this old unit. Am I searching in all the wrong places?
  17. Room is sold. Thank you for your consideration. See you all at the event!
  18. The hotel room below is at the Hampton Inn in Jamestown NY. Only 40 minutes from the event. Rooms are getting tough to get out there right now. However, this one can be had at a bargain. My nephew reserved this room and is no longer staying there. It is prepaid and the hotel said he can transfer ownership info into anyone's name. Make an offer! His loss and he knows it. Contact Randy at randenator@aol.com and I'll get all the parties involved together. Thanks. 19. However, If I could buy or rent that program he/she has designed so when I do the Vegas power trail some day and need to log 1000 caches, that would be great. Good could come from a bot if used the right way. Randy
  20. I too have recently purchased a $100 aluminum geocoin from the Rising Sun Mint. I noticed the miss spelling and after reading this thread, I got nervous. However, I emailed the mint : Geocaching@risingsunmint.com and got the activation codes and had no problems activating on Geocaching.com. I'll admit, their website is very odd, but emailing them worked and I love the coins, bars, or dollars (however you would describe them).
  21. Why take away the finds on the friends page? It was the only reason to have a friends page.
  22. I have found a spot in Geocaching's website that works just like the old way of putting in the zip code and querying the coords. I used to do this in Update Home Coordinates, but I don't think that's the way the original puzzle creator intended it. Go to Member Features and then Update Insty Notifications. Choose Edit or Create New if you have to. Now enter the Zip Code and Query. DONE!
  23. Thanks everyone, We put in the Wap.geocaching.com and it worked. Now we won't wonder what we're looking for when we can't find it. LOL Team Bullis
  24. OK, so we're out on the road and bam! There it is. A lonley little cache just a little ways away from us. We look and look and look, only to find out when we get home that it was an arbitrary location and it's a puzzle cache. Maybe, what I need is different icons for my gps unit. I am using GSAK and that may be where I have to go for that one. However, is the future of geocaching coming to a cell phone near me anytime soon? I would love to be able to pull up the web on my cell phone and read cache listings. So far I can trade stocks, buy and sell on ebay, and read my email, but no go on the cache listings. Thanks, Team Bullis
  25. Hi, What is a virtual TB? I'm somewhat new and still learning. LOL I see this logged sometimes. Thanks, Annie
