  1. How are you going to handle a waymarker that claims an establishment had won a award in the past and that establishment is not presently on the list? For instance I say my local hot dog stand got 2 stars back in 1989. How can you verify that as a reviewer? Commercial venues change so often too and Waymarking has no mechanism to remove obsolete waymarks... Not looking good to me unless these can be overcome.
  2. Also tried this http://drkoch.dk/how-to-fix-safari-cant-open-the-page-because-safari-cant-establish-a-secure-connection/ and to no avail. Still cant log on with a mac.
  3. Well Im at my witts end. Ive googled the problem and although Waymarking specifically is not mentioned there are people who have very similar problems with some sites and the security certificates. Waymarking uses thwate Primary Root CA - G2 for their security certificate. Here is what apple says to the error message I get from Waymarking on safari when trying to log on... "If Safari says it can‘t establish a secure connection, or the website is using weak encryption To protect your security and privacy, websites must use strong encryption to provide a secure web connection. Security enhancements in OS X Yosemite v10.10.4 and iOS 8.4 help protect against important security vulnerabilities. If a webpage is on a server that doesn't meet secure cryptographic standards: Safari will say that it will not open the website because it's using weak encryption. Or Safari will say that it can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server. To resolve the issue, the website administrator should configure their server to be secure." So where is a mac user to go from here? Just not log on and give up Waymarking? Between being the ugly step sister of geocaching and apple's attitude that they know whats best for me there seems to be no way to resolve this. HELP!
  4. Dont forget dated buildings, a really good catch category for old buildings
  5. Sounds a little too wide of a category to me when you add all frat organizations worldwide. A fly by night 2 chapter fraternal organization would qualify for instance. And as little as I like fast food categories it would be like having just one category for the entire lot of all of them. Like wise with post offices, just one category world wide. But we have a track record of not doing either. Post offices go by country, fast food by chain. We occasionally make a catch all category but they don't have good track records in my humble opinion.
  6. For over a week I have been unable to get to the log in page on my phone. I am on 4.1.2 and using dolphin browser and the default browser that comes with 4.1.2 I try switching off my carriers network and onto wifi networks that I know allow loging on on a PC and no luck. I just am not allowed to see the web page to log on. all seem to be server related issues and issues of security not being right to view the page.
  7. Still not working as of 10/16/2015. Safari on Diane's iPhone 5 works fine on the same network but no luck with her Mac still. And maybe I should start a new thread but for a week now I have not been able to log on using my android 4.1.2 for a week now using any of the browsers I have on it. All say the web page is not available when I click to log in,
  8. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU (now see if you can get them to fix the Mac sign on issue - it is still broke. Diane's mac cant log in when my PC on the same network next to her can)
  9. I cant get to the log on page with my mac and safari. No way no how. Tried every back door I could think of and the browser reports cant open page, cant open a secure connection to the server. Im so frustrated. Waymarking is getting to be a PIA BTW, tried isup.me and it reports it is them NOT me. Also I can log on using a PC and it works fine. GRRRRRRRR.......
  10. So I have searched for the official "Waymarking-KML-file" and I will be darned if I can find it. Where is it???? All I can find is a link to get a kml of waymarks selected in a search. Where do I find the waymaking KML file?
  11. Hey tmob--that's the joy of Waymarking. My partner and I really like the festivals category and other once a year categories because we trust the opinions of other waymarkers in looking for things to do. We would go out of our way to visit a festival that another waymarker had posted with a favorable review. On the other hand, I have no interest in fast foods or Wal-Marts, so we screen those out. Appeal is a subjective thing! Diane
  12. I like it--and including the other events. Indianapolis hosts a gigantic mini-marathon every year in conjunction with the Indianapolis 500 and while I'm not a runner, it's fun to watch. What about annual fundraising walks/runs etc., like the Susan Komen Race for the Cure that are held in many cities across the country? Does this need a separate category can it be combined? Diane
  13. Hi there Larry! Rick and I are willing to help wherever you need us...but biggest interest in Fish Hatcheries, (Rick) Animal Hospitals, (Diane) Bed and Breakfast, and oh so especially Ice Cream Parlors. Blessings! Diane
  14. Getting in on this a little late, but Rick and I (Diane) have been having an interesting discussion tonight. Our consensus is that we don't NEED the category, but we would vote yes tp have it. Pipe organs are fairly unique; they are not portable like wind instruments or even larger instruments like pianos; and they are truly fascinating. One of the saddest times I can remember was when a theater pipe organ was removed from a local eating/entertainment establishment and sent to another state because the establishment was being bulldozed. In the meantime, thanks for the topic...and now I know what to do with a picture I have from Ireland this past summer...I couldn't think where to post it and now I know! Into the musical instrument category it will go...here comes way mark #289! Diane
  15. We use an android for all our Waymarking and have it down to a science (as best we have been able to do without a specific app). There are two needs for us. #1,Find waymarks near us. And #2, gathering the info we need for posting a waymark later at home on the PC or mac (although we have been known to post a waymark on the fly from the phone). To gather info we use "Here I Am 2" in combination with "Evernote". Here I am will snag the coords and pass them off with a share to Evernote. Evernote snags the share with the coords and a google map link plus allows naming of that note to tell us what it was of or any other info we think we might need as well as attach a photo(s) to the new note started by the "here i am" share. We default the note to a notebook named "waymarks to be done". Evernote on the phone then auto uploads the note to the cloud and therefore is ready on our mac or PC when we get back. We don't always use Evernote to keep the photo due to bandwidth limitations by Evernote on free accounts but do use the "Dropbox" app to take the camera roll and auto upload the camera shots to the dropbox which is also waiting for us on our mac or PC (this is not a default setting but it can be setup to do so in the settings of the Dropbox app). Its a pretty slick set up that allows for easy Waymarking info to be transferred effortlessly to the home computers. Here's the procedure: Launch "Here I Am 2" After GPS lock up hit "share" from the apps menu. Share the info with "Evernote" This will auto launch the "Evernote" app and automatically create a note with your current lat and long along with a link to goggle maps to show it in a browser. Name the note something that will remind you where you are. If you want hit the camera button while editing the note and the camera app will launch on your phone and you can take a picture. The picture will be attached as part of the note. Hit save from the note edit page. The note is automatically uploaded to the cloud and will be waiting for you when you get home. If you did not attach a pic, then go take one on the phone and via your setting in the "Dropbox" app your photos will auto load to the cloud and also be waiting for you when you get home to your PC. On the road waymarks are submitted with the use of our Motorola Lapdock for our android. We take a shot on the camera, get coord with "here I am", and use the Lapdock with its keyboard, big screen, and firefox browser to submit the waymark. It's also how we do our visits on the fly. Picture on the phone pulls up on the Lapdock and the visit is easy to type up and upload the photo all in one easy motion. IF YOU DONT HAVE A MOTOROLA AND A LAPDOCK...... but have a tablet or Ipad of some sort.... use the app "Airdroid" It will allow you to access your phones pics and data via wifi. Our Ipad only has WiFi so we turn on the hotspot from our phone to allow it to link up to the internet as well as our android's data all at once. Finding waymarks near us is a bit more tedious but I found a way to do it without knowing what town I am in or typing coords into a tricky search on Waymarking. It can be done without typing but you have to follow along on this: Use "cgeo" app for the first step in this process. Cgeo app will locate geocaches near you based on the GPS in your android. Launch the app. Pick "nearby" from the main menu of the app. Pick the nearest cache regardless of your interest in it or geocaching. When the info for that cache has loaded into your phone, from the menu pick "open in browser" and proceed to open in your phone browser. When the cache page is pulled and loaded in your android browser scroll to the middle or near bottom of the page to "find nearest waymarks" and click. This will direct your browser to a search of waymarks based on your current coordinates. Waa-la, with no knowledge of what town you are in or what your GPS lat long is, all the nearby waymarks are listed by distance from your present location as if you knew where you were (which we usually don't) So that's how we do it on an android without a specific app. It works clean enough and keeps us from "typing on glass" which we despise. Try it out.
  16. Go for it beav! Be sure to be careful in the words you choose and keep it clear, like you see a little slip up of a word causes a great deal of debate and misunderstanding. You have made the point well that current cats don’t serve the need. Don’t let anyone tell you if it is interesting or not, that is the place of the self righteous to do, let the voting tell if it is interesting and viable. What scares so many folks is that McDonalds did make it as a cat! Go for it! Voting is free, lets see what happens.
