  1. I find that my caching improves in the warmer weather. First it's the perfect excuse to take a long road trip through the mountains. Second I get to get some of those pesky micros hidden in parks. When the temperature hits 110 all those pesky muggles seem to stay inside in the airconditioning, allowing me to look as long as I want. Lots of water and SPF 50 get me through the day just fine.
  2. Let me guess, you have a Garmin?? I call mine MariGold, because its a Magellan Gold Yes I do and I like it. My choice comments are reserved for the days when it can't make up it's mind where we are at, or when the batteries die on me. Not to get OT but if you know of a GPS that has never had problems bouncing let me know. ( I know Magellen have the same problem in heavy cloud cover and thick tree cover )
  3. I have a question. How could you be trespassing with permission? That would meen that anyone but the landowner should be fined for trespassing. I have gone after many caches that stated right on the cache page that it was posted no trespassing but they had the owners permission. Here is one that comes to mind.Clearly posted no trespassing but have permission to do it. edited to add: What did you cache page say? Did it spell out that it located close to a road and no bushwacking was needed, coords of good place to park, the fact that the signs were there and owner permission was given?
  4. I can not list the names I have called mine due to the fact that this a family friendly site, and I wish to continue posting here.
  5. I did a search and found a few referances about them but no feedback either way. I'm thinking about getting a new GPS'r and found a good deal there. But I want to make sure I'll get it and not get ripped off. Anyone here have any experiance ordering through them? If so how was the service?
  6. I too am lost when it comes to computers and techo stuff. I have a friend that is a computer geek so I had him look at the stuff out there. He found the GSAK, Geocaching swiss army knife and cachemate ( $8 for the cachemate), i just used them both today as a matter of fact. Once he walked me through it twice I got the hang of it. they are both easy to use, and so much easier than the way that i use to do it. I do have an older pda ( a treo 90 )and it suites my needs just fine for the web pages, and I can now load the coords directly into my gps'r instead of hand entering them. I would say try and find a computer savvy friend or fellow cacher to run you through these, I think you'll like them. If you don't have a pda you can get one real cheap on E-bay, especialy if your just useing it for cache pages.
  7. If you go to the location and do not find it, it is a dnf. If you get in the general area and don't even look for it, that would be a note. Also I like to add all DNF's to my watchlist, so that way I know if it is there or not.
  8. Darn I'm 10797th, oh well who cares I'm having fun.
  9. I think that answers my question, I'll close this in a day or so just in case someone has something more to add.
  10. Maybee the OP chooses not to log there finds on line, and has not hid any yet. Only thing I could come up with. Just out of curiosity, anyone know the answer to the question? Is there a limit on how many you can own? Can you send me a sock puppet, so I can post here with noone knowing who I really am.
  11. If I remember right Ed Scott was the one with over 900 finds and only held a GPS twice, and thought they were no good. Also he was going to wait untill he retired to realy get into the caching thing. ( If it wasn't Ed please let me know who I am thinking of.)
  12. It is when you go on a long hike and forget the TP, look out for leaves of three. Had to put that in, the others covered it.
  13. It's 500, you were wrong. But you are still da' man. ( I hope that is an acceptable term. I do not have my list of approved phrases handy )
  14. That one I would log, what a great idea. Does he go back and look at everyone that logged them? Have you ever thought about making him a TB? We have a person here in AZ that had the TB tag tattooed on his arm, to log him you have to post a picture of you with him, that way he can look back and put faces with names. I would not sugest tattooing your sun, but I have heard of a few people who wear the tag around there neck, and have similar requirments for logging them.
  15. You didn't drive yourself to the hospital? Come on be a man. Seriously, hope you heal up and get back on the trail soon.
  16. You got the basic idea, go have fun meet people. You can go out alone or hook up with a group, I find groups are more fun than solo. Not sure what the differance between a regular and mega event are. I to am confused why people log coins that others bring to events, but to each there own. The poker run typicly is where you hit a bunch of caches and pick up a card/s at each one. Normaly they are in envilopes and the best hand at the end gets some prize. All your logging ideas seem right to me, have fun and go to more.
  17. I figured there had to be some out there thank you for confirming my theory. I am curious what she uses for a GPS, probably through a laptop somehow.
  18. Im pretty sure there was a published gals only event somewhere once, and it got crashed by some geomen in drag. Pictures were taken and posted here, but I don't have the time nor inclination to search for it. In a sense many caches are exclusionary. I don't like micros (these caches are only for cachers who like micros), I don't like puzzles (these are only for people who can solve them) , I don't like multis, I don't like park n grabs.... Why is your cache going to be any different? Could someone create a cache that required an online found it log? And would someone please pass humanloofa some decaf, or at least point him to the return key? Don't drink coffe, and my keyboard has no return key sorry. the original question was, Could a cache be placed that requires its finders to be owners of Magellan GPS units? Or Garmin?Or, even more extreme, to be of a certain ethnicity or race? Are there any already in place? It was a legit question in my mind, because the way it is set up they could exist.
  19. I have actualy thought about this for a while now, but a recent thread got me thinking abou it again. I work with a blind person and the stuff they have out there for the visualy impared never ceases to amaze me. I was just woundering if anyone knows about any blind cachers. yet again I am being serious about this no matter how silly it sounds.
  20. May want to reread your post, have to be a female to log, but if your a female you'll delete the log. Ohh noo...not enough coffee yet! But maybe, just maybe, that's the fun aspect of it? Edited to add: Logging requirements that involve specialized skills or equipment (boats, rock climbing skills, etc.) are fine. If you really want that cache, you will find a way to get it, even if it means renting a boat or bribing someone to retrieve it for you so you can sign the logbook (FYI: the bribe remark is a joke). Logging requirements based on your find count, taking a photo of yourself reflected in the wall of the building at the cache site, and the like, can be fun or silly, but are also fine, because if you want to log it, you can through presistence or creativity find a way to do so. Logging requirements based on race, gender, and all those those other fine things that make you a unique individual are NOT fine. That's called discrimination and there are laws against it because it is wrong. Enough said! Not quite enough said, sorry. Aything with a terrain above a 1.5 would be discriminating against the handicapped, and that is a violation of the law. Underwater caches descriminate aginst non swimmers, caches up high in a tree leave out nonclimbers, what about those hidden in tight spots and people with closterphobia, I think you get the idea. Heck the whole geocaching thing is rather biased against the vissualy impaired. What about people who do not have computers, do we have lists of caches we can mail to them if they want? I'm not agreeing with the idea of a white/blacks/purples only cache, but if there are caches out there that have specific requirments to log them than there is the possability that such a cahe may exist. I believe that is what the OP is asking. Heck Jeremy gave permission for an female only event, and that would be gender discrimination. ( I think it was great that he allowed that to happen even though it didn't) We are ( for lack of a better term) an organinization, and could get away with certain things. There are several gyms, and organizations out here that are just for women, and I couldn't join, that are perfectly legal. I could never even concieve that a cache with gender or racial requirments would ever get published, but the way it is set up they possibly could. I could see a Garmin loyalist stateing that you have to have you picture taken with a Garmin to log your find, maybee in front of there HQ. I could go on but I think most people get the point I'm trying to make.
  21. May want to reread your post, have to be a female to log, but if your a female you'll delete the log.
  22. I have one cache I take people I'm introducing to the sport to all the time. Each time I write a note. It is right by where I go camping all the time, and is a nice cache plenty of decent swag. It was also the first cache I found, so I may be biased.
  23. Yes. Here are my coordinates to a cache: ... Only people who don't write silly posts can see this. According to some here in the forums you have allready excluded your self.
