  1. Why is this one special for you? Twas a joke. Get it? Yeah, I suck. BTW I liked your pictures for the POW camp. Those were very cool.
  2. If I hadn't looked for Tear Down This Wall!, then I never would have known this "chunk of history" was on display so close to home. Now I would say that is pretty cool!
  3. How long has it been? I wouldn't even think of sending a friendly reminder if it hasn't been two weeks minimum. If it were me, I would wait at least 3, probably 4 weeks. They picked it up on May 3rd. The fact that they have dropped off some TB's makes me wonder if they lost it or they are hanging on to it for some reason.
  4. I've wondered this very same thing. I have a Garmin Etrex Legend.
  5. What's the most interesting history lesson you have learned while geocaching? Ever found something really cool in your area that you never knew existed?
  6. I absolutely agree. I recently saw a cache page that was a TB hotel and the cache owner said to leave at least one TB in the cache at all times! How crazy is that? If my TB was the one left in there being held "ransom" I would have issues with the cache owner.
  7. I would suggest sending them a 'nice' reminder first to see if they respond. They may have thought it was something they were supposed to keep. This is what I was thinking, but I didn't know if I was being to anxious.
  8. The best/most unusual container I have found is in a series of cemetary caches in Crawford county. All the cemetaries are pretty old and the cache container was a mini coffin that the cache owner made himself. Needless to say it was a cool container and I was surprised to find it.
  9. Okay here is my question. I sent out my first geocoin last month in Aruba. Someone picked it up and hasn't sent it out again. By looking at their profile they have been to several caches and even released some tb's. What is the proper etiquette here? Do I just send a note to the cacher asking the status of my coin or keep waiting? I'm not sure how long to wait before sending an email. Any suggestions?
  10. Hey, I'm one of the woman cachers you know around here, and I'm waaay comfortable alone in the woods. I think the statistics are remarkably clear on where the real risks in your life lie (driving - and in the house). One of the things I love about the GPS is the freedom it gives me to wander off trail in the woods and especially the swamps - I'm much more adventurous since my DH (I thought that was designated hitter?) (but it's dear husband in this thread, okay?) got me one. Although I ALWAYS carry a compass. Cell phone just about useless, there's no reception in most of the areas I frequent. Also, they work so much better when you turn them on (he got me one of those too). Many years ago I got kind of worried as I kept noticing a couple of guys in a jeep at various trail crossings as I looped around the forest - I told myself not to be paranoid, they were driving around and I was riding (a horse) around. But they were sitting at the trailhead when I came up the road, and I WAS paranoid. I decided that I would not dismount until I was comfortable with their presence. Turns out there were following me - trying to catch up with me for hours. They noticed my headlights were on and wanted to jumpstart my truck. They'd been trying to find me in the woods for 2 hours and sitting there waiting to help for another hour! And who said chivalry is dead?
  11. I never went camping and hiking as a kid. Once i discovered this sport through a family member, I also discovered "The Great Outdoors". There's no looking back now. Plus you throw in a treasure hunt and the satisfaction that you actually FOUND it, what a self esteem builder!
  12. I prefer to cache in the cool early morning, when the chiggers are asleep. I think in the snow rates as my favorite time to cache. It is so beautiful and the quiet is amazing. Quiet time is a rarity in my life.
  13. I too am a solo cacher most of the time. I recently got a black lab so she could come with me. I also just came back from a weekend of women only classes in different things, like self defense. I asked the instructor about ways to protect oneself while on the trail. I learned how to defend myself from attacks behind and from front. Mace doesn't always work because you have to have it out and available. I would look into a class and like others have said be aware. Self defense is the key when you are way out in the woods and no one to hear or see you.
  14. I couldn't find any girl shotgun images without copyrights, here's a couple handguns though Here's one that may or may not include a copyrighted image. Thanks for the help but I'm definitely looking for a shotgun, in particular a Remington 870 Pump Action. Then again a girl with any shotgun will do too. Hey, I found one. WAHOO!
  15. It can be so humiliating, can't it? Been there, done that.
  16. Nice to see you put in perespective.

  18. (Bowing to the wise one) Yes, I would say you are definitely a geocacher.
  19. Anyone interested in making a new avatar for me? I like the smileys but was thinking of something different for now. Maybe something involving trap shooting or a girl holding a shotgun. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  20. PREFERRED: A nice cold six pack of Amberbock, some nachos and cheese and a really great movie. REALITY:Make dinner, clean up after dinner, finish up the laundry, get all three kids bathed and dressed for bed and then remember I forgot to eat dinner.
