  1. Google Earth is such an awesome program. I'm not a premium member (YET) so I don't do or understand pocket queries and find Google Earth to be very helpful.
  2. Hmmm....how does one lose their GPS when they have had it surgically implanted in their body.
  3. 1. Favorite Movie(at least one of my favorites )-The Princess Bride 2. Favorite Book Pride and Prejudice
  4. Good tip. I use Chigarid also. I think I read somewhere that when the temp is 60*F (?)or below they aren't out and about. Also, if you come home and remove your clothing and take a quick shower within an hour of being in the woods they will be gone, just don't put the same clothes back on again.
  5. GOTCACHE ILKCACHE CACHERUS AMMOBOX FOUNDIT
  6. ...aren't you glad you opted to do this 10 states at a time? ps - do you promise to post to this thread when the first caches are approved? That is why we did it that way. Whew. I REALLY like the name and graphics. Great job!
  7. First off, WELCOME to the addiction/hobby/sport! 1)Do you live near your hometown to maintain the caches? If not, this will be a problem getting the caches approved. 2)Is there anything left at the site you want to highlight? Maybe if you could find an old picture of what use to be at the spot and place that on the cache page with lots of history it will add to the appeal. 3)I wouldn't trespass on a cachers already existing cache. It seems like you might offend the person. If you really like the spot, keep it on your watchlist and wait until it is archived and then hide YOUR own cache. 4)ABSOLUTELY!
  8. I agree with Mad Bee. I enjoy the history behind the cemetaries. Everyone has a story and if i can learn a history lesson from caching, I am so much the wiser. I REALLY enjoy these types of caches when done thoughtfully.
  9. I enjoy the hikes when I am by myself. Waiting for the legs of a 2 year old is not always fun. Then there are times when a girl needs a fix and a park-n-grab hits the spot.
  10. This cache GCG4WH we had to start at the visitors center to receive the information we needed to gather to find the final. My only complaint is there were 20+ waypoints that would have taken a VERY long time to find and we just didn't have enough to spare. This wasn't stated on the cache page which made it a downer.
  11. If you need a backup for Alaska let me know. I might have a backup for you.
  12. Very nice! The colors are very pleasing to the eye and not at all overwhelming. Good job.
  13. I bought an etrex legend on the recommendation of my cousin who is in the military. I'm a mom of 3 and had absolutely no experience with a gps before geocaching. I love the etrex legend. It is very user friendly and doesn't take long to figure out. I hope this helps! Welcome to this great hobby/sport/addiction.

    Hi!

Welcome to the addiction! Keep on cachin'!
  15. UPDATE: I emailed the cacher who had my coin and she said she still had it and will be placing it in a cache very soon. WAHOO!!!
  16. How about this. Each state cache gets a number from the puzzlemaster to be posted in their cache. In order to find the final cache you add each of the number together. The final answer is your coords. It is a simple formula, and all 50 states would be needed. It would look like this: AL - 6918 AK - 53871 AZ - 309 ... Total=360583108698125 = N36 05.831 x W086 98.125 Excellent suggestion! Simple enough that everyone can solve it, yet, there is no way you can take a short cut and get the final without all 50 caches! This gets my vote! Sounds good to me too. So, If we do that. We will need to Come up with a location for the final as the first step. Center of USA was given above. Anyone in that area that can suggest a VERY SECURE cache location that will remain secure even if the cache is not found for 5+ years? Perhaps an owner of nearby private property that will allow the final to be on their land? I know you already have two for MO but if you are looking for a monument, like the Arch, I am only 35 minutes from it and happy to volunteer. As far as the area in Lebannon I just did two caches there this past weekend. That was it! There are a few more in the surrounding area so maybe contacting one of those cache owners would be helpful for information. Just a thought.
  17. I agree with your opinion about if there is enough room to hide a trade container then they should. I placed a micro in the woods and now I have decided to change it to a trade container. I did it because it is what I had in my backpack at the time and didn't really think that micros in the woods were such a bad thing. Now I have changed my opinion on that.
  18. This is quite fascinating reading! Certainly a cache I would love to do.
  19. That is very cool! Pretty nice of your uncle to help out too.
  20. Okay I just realized today that I have an opportunity to place a cache in a really great park. It is in a beautiful wooded area. I'm wondering what other cachers think of puzzles. I personally don't like the real complicated puzzles. I tend to gravitate toward caches that are puzzle free with a long hike or have an easy puzzle to decipher. I, by nature, am a people pleaser so I need opinions about what the geocaching community wants. To puzzle or not to puzzle, that is the question.
  21. I suggest, "Let them go and watch". My first coin out just got placed after 7 months in the hands of a cacher. A long story that I don't want to be scolded for. Some players just don't feel they need to place them in a reasonable amount of time. I won't be letting anymore out for a long time, if ever again. So, set them free. If they come back.... lol I was thinking that exact same thing when I took it to Aruba. I only set it out because I had two of the same coin. Why do we become to attached to these things???
